Since my hand has been forced I'll do this thread now. (I was going to do it as a weekend task, but whatever.)

GOLIATH stars Billy Bob Thornton, William Hurt and Maria Bello, it is the most cliched thing ever in the history of the world, but it's still great.

BBT is an alcoholic lawyer who gets a shot at redemption after a fall from grace, he drinks whiskey from about 8am in the morning, but he is kind to dogs and can still bed women. One of his friends is a prostitute with a heart of gold, he is divorced and has an impossibly attractive daughter who still loves him and his wife can't hate him either. (Who happens to be Maria Bello.) Oh yes and he drives an old 60s Mustang because of course he does.

William Hurt plays an evil big lawyer man who is boss of a massive firm where BBT used to be a partner until INCIDENTS drove them apart, he is so evil that he's only missing a white cat and a lair of some description to make an entirely plausible Bond villain. He seems to have a lot of fun with the part though. He also doesn't seem to be able to afford light bulbs as it's always dark in his room, but that may be because of his scars, Dr Evil style.

BBT ends up in a sort of 'odd couple' arrangement with a young annoying woman lawyer trying to take down EVIL WILLIAM HURT even though they're just fighting for the little guy and the truth goddammit, and in the end they like each other and all that stuff, the prostitute with a heart of gold is also a very competent paralegal (handy huh?) and they recruit a fat woman to help them because that means 'will be good at their job' in this world.

It runs to eight 55 minute episodes and despite being formulated entirely from the The Big Book Of Cliches, or maybe even because of it, since we all know the set up perfectly already, we can just enjoy watching it be done so well.

Obviously BBT and Hurt's presence help greatly, but the whole cast is excellent in fairness, it's splendidly well written and shot - it's all just a very slick example of how to do a pure genre piece and do it with aplomb.

On Amazon Prime - check it out!

801/1000.

Tl:dr.

Someone pretended to be John Grisham and wrote a Tv series. It's pretty fucking good.
