Anyone watching Wimbledon?

Nadal is in ferocious form at the moment, winning his first grass court tournament and THRASHING Federer in the French Open final.

However, Fed has not lost on grass in about 26834 years, and is looking to be the first person ever to win Wimbledon six times in a row.

Can Nadal's superior athleticism and ability to bludgeon the living hell out of the ball overcome Federer's grace and classic style? Or is Roger still King of Grass?

Or... can Djokovic upset the apple cart as he did in the first Slam of the year?

Or... can Andy Murr... ah, forget it.

It's also all to play for in the Women's. Sharapova is my tip, but you can never rule out Venus and Serena.

Can Sharapova and Ivanovic meet in the final?

If so I will have to watch it... alone, in a darkened room.

Kind of wishing I'd put money on Ivanovic when she had 2 match points against her.

Well Venus Williams just beat her sister today, they definately deserved to be in the final

Funny how they never seem to be in the same side of the draw isn't it :?:

Thought Venus was quite rude today as she kept tossing her towel to the ball boy and girl really arrogantly which was a bit mean I thought anyway

And there was a lot less grunting by both of them, especially Serena, which is pretty conclusive evidence that its gamesmanship when they do it to other players!

It is, although it's making me record Top Gear.
It's 6-6 in the final set at the moment, but I think Federer is going to take it.

The womens final was predictable and boring IMO.

Very boring. I can't tell them apart. Manly Clone A vs. Manly Clone B.

Can I moan that they were paid the same for two short sets as the men will have for 5+? Time to get women onto 5 sets, frankly.

I want the final to go up to 10 games, just to see if the scoreboard can deal with it.

It'll just go back to 0 and the other guy will win.
Looks like it might not happen though.

It can, there was a 5th set that went to something like 38 games a few years ago. Not in the final, obv.

I guess Grim... means their new scoreboard. They didn't have this screen last year did they?

Edit - Also, I'm pretty sure he's joking.

Fucking hell, I try to avoid hyperbole where possible, but that was the best final I've ever seen. It's a shame they couldn't both win.

I agree, some of the points were incredible. The ball was going at utterly insane angles.

Second place still nets a couple of hundred thousand quid I think, so its not a bad week's work.

True, but I don't think 'runner-up' is in Federer's vocabulary (except at the French Open, natch).

That was just incredible.

In terms of sporting contests, it's like having two of Tiger Woods, of Ali, or of Michael Johnson... at the same time. Incredible. Everyone else is playing a different sport. I was willing Federer to win, and he came so close, but it was a game of wills, and Nadal's youth and power told. For Federer to defend SO many points where it would have been all over, and for Nadal to have defended about eight billion break points... legendary.

There may not be a final as good again for a long, long time.

Hopeful for next year...

I am marginally impressed that Murray has beat Nadal and is now in the final of the US Open. However, he still has a stupid face.

In his defence, he would never say "has beat" when he should be saying "has beaten" or just "beat"...

There were a lot of other things I didn't do simultaneously as well.

Let's face it, Federer has a big nose, Nadal looks like a horse, and Djokovic has a bowlcut. Murray is arguably the most handsome of the lot.

According to my girlfriend he looks like a geek, wheras Nadal looks like cool and sexy.

He was unlucky in the second set mind and played some great tennis in that set against federers serving but he seemed too tired to continue after that.

Understandable anyway, reason would have accepted he was a massive outsider. If you look at the plusses, the 2nd set really could have gone either way, Fed made many many more unforced errors in it and has a worse first serve %. He also broke him twice.

Given the rate of improvement, another year and he could well be right in there for at least Wimbledon and here.

Pretty much. He was also denied a third break in the second set by a dodgy line call, but even had he taken that set Federer was playing ridiculous tennis like only he can, and would have won.

His single handed passing shots are just a joy to watch.
