There's no Princess Bride in this list, so it's clearly a load of nonsense.

Is that not a close depiction of the film then? ;)

It looks like you're too close there. You should switch to guns.

Although I've never seen Top Gun, I actually own three copies of. Mind you, two of them are CD-I Video CDs (ah, those days of switching discs halfway through) and the other is HD-DVD, because I'm at the cutting edge.

I've seen all of those but then I was a teenager at the start of '82.
The list, like a lot of the shit Channel 5 pump out is rubbish. It's about as credible as the pile of onanism that was Slash presenting a list of top guitar solos on the same channel a few years ago, where I kid you not, he was IIRC the top 2 in the list. There are about 20 films on that list I wouldn't put in a top 100.

As has been pointed out, there are many classics that weren't included.

I'm agreeing with a lot of people on this thread, even the ones that contradict others that I also agree with.

But this... this:
Satsuma wrote:

This is the FUCKING TRUTH.

Commando is The Tits. I love the old Arnie movies.

Also, I only saw Top Gun properly a few month ago when it was on telly. It just somehow passed me by when I was a young un.

I didn't know when I first saw the films, but became aware on subsequent viewings, pretty sure it mentions the years on screen that the action takes place?

Temple of Doom is actually a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark and is set in 1935 while Raiders is set in 1936. Therefore during the course of the film Indy has not yet discovered the Ark of the Covenant.

Ahhh, every day a school day..

It was pretty good, not great, but quite exciting. So eighties though.

You're in for some treats! Out of them all I'd say you MUST watch:

My Neighbour Totoro
Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke

You won't regret making the time to watch them. Get your pyjamas on, a round tub of really nice ice cream, a big squishy blanket.

Last time Zardoz told me to watch Totoro I did, and I always forget that it makes me cry. Sat in my pyjamas, wrapped in my blanket, face full of Ben & Jerrys Peanut Butter Cup, snuffling a few tears and saying 'stupid Zardoz'.

This is the best one, IMO. It's just properly beautiful.

Seconded, but you MUST ALSO watch Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Pre-Ghibli but it's one of the best from Miyazaki before he set up Studio Ghibli.

And When Marnie Was There, cause I love it and it made me cry. Beautiful soundtrack too.

There's loads of great ones and if you need a fat list of those to watch (or avoid) I'm on hand!

I really liked Ponyo, but we watched it during a huge downpour, so the atmosphere was perfect
