Operating clandestine and worldwide, the Foundation operates beyond jurisdiction, empowered and entrusted by every major national government with the task of containing anomalous objects, entities, and phenomena. These anomalies pose a significant threat to global security by threatening either physical or psychological harm.
The Foundation operates to maintain normalcy, so that the worldwide civilian population can live and go on with their daily lives without fear, mistrust, or doubt in their personal beliefs, and to maintain human independence from extraterrestrial, extradimensional, and other extranormal influence.
Our mission is three-fold:
Secure
The Foundation secures anomalies with the goal of preventing them from falling into the hands of civilian or rival agencies, through extensive observation and surveillance and by acting to intercept such anomalies at the earliest opportunity.
Contain
The Foundation contains anomalies with the goal of preventing their influence or effects from spreading, by either relocating, concealing, or dismantling such anomalies or by suppressing or preventing public dissemination of knowledge thereof.
Protect
The Foundation protects humanity from the effects of such anomalies as well as the anomalies themselves until such time that they are either fully understood or new theories of science can be devised based on their properties and behavior. The Foundation may also neutralize or destroy anomalies as an option of last resort, if they are determined to be too dangerous to be contained.

SCP is absolutely brilliant. A massive compiled archive of incidents, interviews, and scientific tests on a huge array of 'anomalies'. It ranges from witty to creepy and everything in between, and if you're looking for a way to lose most of a day down an internet rat hole, I hugely recommend it. It's done by a large group of writers but has an impressively consistent style and its own internal canon.

I believe there's a game based on this which is supposed to be right scary.

(but as it's not my kind of thing, I haven't tried it)

Some of the SCPs are stone cold classics. The stairwell in the college for example. Or the portal with giant legless monsters.

WARNING: SCPs will eat your afternoon

Strange if true. I wonder if they realise they've published this on a non-SSL clearnet site.

SCP archival data resists all attempts at encrypting it.

As long as data inputs are sanitised and the API hashed properly, there is no real cause for concern. The biggest threat to IT security is complacency.

If you like weird, creepy shit with a ton of self-referential lore, the gold standard is "House of Leaves" by Mark Z Danielewski.

I have no idea how well it would work as an ebook, and the layout is somewhat crazy, and there's more appendices and footnotes than is sane or rational, but it is something else.

SCP has 3000 entries, and most of those have several appended interview transcripts/mission reports. It's insanely huge.

It's fiction, if that's what you mean.

No, it's a top secret database hosted on an Angelfire website

It's a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

I liked this one. The coldness of experiments comes through well
