I am still pottering around. I've had a couple of trips into the end game area, which now appears to be manageable.

Probably another week to go, though.

I took down my second Divine Beast last night. It was the camel in the desert and wasn’t that tough compared to the Elephant in the water.

It was still brilliant thought and a fantastic piece of game design.

I’ve now stumbled across my 3rd (the bird) but before I go headlong into that, I’m doing some cooking to make sure I’ve got enough health.

This is a fantastic game.

You see, I would've said it was the hardest of the four (Camel > Elephant > (Rito) > (Goron) )

But they're all not that hard, really.

Has anyone got this on WiiU? Would you recommend it for a Russell and Mimi?

I haven't, but it doesn't sound like there's enough of a difference between it and the Switch version to affect gameplay so yes, I'd recommend it. :)

Thanks for the link. It was this comment of yours that got me thinking about it:
Quote:
You do! My wife has started asking me if we can play it instead of watching tv - it's usually the other way around.

Edit: just realised that might appear horribly sexist - not intended. What I meant was this game takes over your life, and much like life, every time you go to do something, you get distracted by five or six other things to be done. It's immense.

Yes I've got the Wii-U version, it's a very close match for the Switch version overall so don't worry that you'd be getting an inferior game experience.

The biggest problem I've found is the battery on my gamepad dying before I want to stop playing the game on any given session :D

I've got it for the WiiU but it's still in the wrapper so I can't recommend it.

Sometimes it can properly break down to a crawl on the WiiU (When you smack a moblin so hard it ragdolls sometimes causes the game to drop to sub 5fps when it doesn't on switch from what I hear)

It does that kind of thing on my Switch, occasionally.

IIRC the conclusion Eurogamer came to was that both versions drop frames (sometimes very badly), but not in the same situations.

In essence you're getting the same game on either system, it's not like the difference between getting an 8-bit or 16-bit arcade conversion back in the day.

Does either version suffer less waggly bullshit motion controls? Because obviously that would be the definitive version.

There's motion control aiming (bow and arrow etc.) but I'm pretty sure you can turn it off (on the Switch at least), but nothing like the sword waggling in Skyward Sword.

The Switch version allows you to turn it off when you're aiming with your bow and arrow so that's fine. Some of the shrines make you twist and turn the Joy-Con to move around mazes and such like but they're really easy. Once you detach the Joy-Con, it's really accurate and simple to work with... It's almost fun!

There's something quite limited you can control with motion on the Wii-U but I turned it off almost immediately and can't remember what it was.

I think it's the bow and arrow aiming. You're far more accurate with the analogue stick anyway in my opinion so yeah, keep it off.

N the contrary, I've found the system works well both here and elsewhere, it allows for fine aiming much better than the stick does, and you have the stick for getting near your target) (Uncharted on vita was the first time I came across the system, and was pretty much responsible for that being the only one I haven't tired of before the end)

I took down my third Divine Beast last night. It was the bird, Medoh.

I had to rush through it as the cold kept getting the better of me. I was unprepared as I didn't have enough meals to keep me warm but I persevered and I managed it in the end. Again, I thought it was a clever level design and the scale of the game still amazes me.

There's an armour shop in the Rito village that sells it. Snowquill, I think it's called.

I completed this last night in that I killed the last boss. There's still a load of shrines to find and I don't think I got the proper ending so I'm going to go back and do what I think I need to do.

Overall though, it's an absolutely amazing game. I've loved it from start to finish and I'm genuinely sad to have finished it.

After I killed the boss and completed this, I put it down for a few weeks and played a few other things.

Last week though, I went back into Hyrule and I've remembered how brilliant this game is! Turns out that I've got loads of shrine quests to do and as always, there's plenty of stuff to do as I wander about.

In short, best game ever.

Yep. Totally.

I think it’s fair to say I’ve been a bit disillusioned with games recently and this and the Switch have made me realise that games are great… but mostly when they’re Nintendo games.

Legend of Statham: Bezel of the Wild.

Anyway, it isn't the bezel (obv), I just can't find the option screen that lets me resize the screen. Y'know if there's such an option? I'll be damned if I can find it.

I don't remember having the problem. Might check it out with a bit of a new one. I'm not sure what the actual model is for the best Chris and the wraiths to be honest but I think it's some sort of progressive alliance for the frees.

I've put 90+ hours into this and it's showing no signs of slowing down. I'm still discovering new things on the map!

For instance, today I've found an abandoned temple that has a hidden shrine in it. The only problem is, it's behind a ton of turrets.

Best... Game... Ever!

I've sorted the screen thing by going back into the WiiU system settings and resizing the screen that way. It's fine now.

Game talk:

1) Fuck the WiiU controller for this game.
2) Fuck the person who put jump and dash on X and B. The two buttons that you might use together are on in the most awkward position on a D-pad to press together with your thumb. But wait! You can customise the controls! Yay! How so? Well you can swap the jump and dash buttons around! HNNNGH. Effin morons.
3) That being said, I'm quite impressed by the technical wizardry involved and the open world and lack of hand holding.
4) I'm less impressed with the speed of skipping the text and the drab conversations.
5) I'm also a bit annoyed at the futuristic stylings of the trials (so far).
6) And that Link carries a fucking mobile phone with him... HNNNGH.
7) And the WiiU pad doesn't even have a map screen on it: just a screen that says "touch here to play on the controller". Lazy shits.
8) The atmosphere is reet nice though and the above are relatively minor niggles cause it certainly seems like it's going out of its way to impress me after SKYWARDFUCKINGSWORDSHIT.

I've got a night in on my own with this tonight. I am having the same problems regarding the unintuitive button placement but am assuming that will fade with familiarity.

So far so very engaging though.

Fuck the person who put jump and dash on X and B. The two buttons that you might use together are on in the most awkward position on a D-pad to press together with your thumb. But wait! You can customise the controls! Yay! How so? Well you can swap the jump and dash buttons around! HNNNGH. Effin morons.

Good old Nintendo, still fucking up the basics even when pushing things forward.

Yes this got on my tits too, I was almost gobsmacked that they could create such a stunningly accomplished game, so lovingly crafted in every single regard, and yet they not only fucked up the default controls, the single option they gave you to change them was a 'slight improvement' on 'fucked up'.

They really do plough their own furrow.
