Eurogamer have posted a breakdown of all the major Nintendo console launches in the UK and how they did in the end. It looks quite interesting but I’ve only skimmed it this morning.

One of the questions raised was that they didn’t know how much the Gameboy Advance was when it launched? I was working at Game at the time and I thought it was £89.99… but I’ve asked a couple of friends and they thought it might be higher.

Any ideas?

I'd have said it was higher than that too.

One of my friends has just text and thinks it could have been £119.99.

I reckon around £100.

I had a little zap on Wario Ware on a Gameboy SP I've still got in the bedside drawer. Turns out that Wario Ware itself was actually a bit shit and I only love it for the bonus mini games which remain fantastic. Skateboard and that diagonal lizard licking one are fabo.

What is this? I thought I'd unlocked all the mini games on WarioWare?! I don't believe I've played this one.

I thought I'd try and hunt out Argos catalogue scans to see if they might have prices for the GBA but sadly I could only find Game Boy and Game Boy Color stuff.

Just so you're aware, that high score is unbeatable. I haven't got close to it since picking it up but that may be due to my old arthritic fingers.

I have Warioware on my 3DS as that's the one I've unlocked the most on I think.

I'm working from home this afternoon so that's that sorted.

I've just found this in the box of my GBA which means I bought it second hand.. So no closer to the truth.

It was definitely £90.

I got one for my birthday with a game I would never have got birthday gifts for much more than £100.

Edit: My birthday is start of July, it came out 22nd of June.

Aha! I thought as much.

That makes sense too as my receipt is dated from September 2001 so a £30 drop for a second hand console sounds right.

Having a poke around the wayback machine, I found this page on Gameplay.com, with a launch price of £79.99

Hmmm... Would Game have been £10 more expensive than Gameplay? Possibly, yes.

It looks like EB only sold it in bundles, the cheapest being £99.

That hardware pack includes a mains adaptor and a magnifying screen. I think those were between £5-£7 so £89.99 for the GBA is looking likely.

Got mine a few weeks after launch for £80 I think from HMV.
