Best DMX song is Tricky, duh. Anyone who played the Tony Hawk game that used it as the soundtrack knows that.

A real idiot might have just started adding random stuff to an amazon basket to see what shipping options were available. Thankfully I definitely didn't do that.

Now you've said that, yes. My local McDonalds closed their doors years ago and got boarded up. When I worked at the council one of my colleagues confirmed that McDs left everything inside as they don't recycle kitchen and restaurant equipment.

It's still there on the high street, boarded up. I'd love to go in.

Forget your fancy workouts, just get to the checkout in IKEA and remember the thing in the showroom that you forgot to pick up.

I reckon I just did 5km at a trot, dodging all the way!

I'm all over that! Hopefully it won't be as short supply as the NES mini but I'm thinking that it'll be even worse! People trying to make a quick buck off them on eBay.

Hmm.. I'm quite tempted to get one too. Although I've got a SNES and a Retron 5, if I wanted to buy the games listed above for it, it would cost a fair few quid (I sold Castlevania IV earlier for £40 for instance). Hopefully Nintendo will make plenty of them available; partly because I think they could do very well out of it and partly to avoid all the problem the NES mini had with the extortionate price mark-ups on Ebay.

Well that didn't take long. There are already some listed on Ebay at £160-£200.

Interesting article about Maxwell and scientific publishing. I don't agree with it in its entirety, as academic publishing paid for my house, and although Headington Hill Hall is lovely, I wouldn't call it palatial. The chasing of getting papers into the big three journals is real, though, and CNS would be ace. Nowadays, it is all about the h-index which looks how many times you have been cited (mine is 8, which isn't bad, thanks, methods papers!).

Worth a long read.

The pre orders on Amazon didn't last long. I've ended up ordering two just to cover my bases. If they both turn up then that'll be fine. I have a friend who wants one but said last night "It'll be alright. I'll order one in the next few weeks".

I'm guessing he's going to miss out until I step in to save the day! (And charge him double what it cost me :))

And Smiths (who were selling it £10 cheaper than everyone else) and Amazon are out of pre-orders (game still have stock but since they never filled the pre-orders for the NES mini i'm not sure i'd trust them).

It's OK, the XP based control software will be so clogged with ransomware it'll never get out of port in the first place.

The planes were not due till the ship has finished sea trials.

Also there will be enough planes for the 2 ships.

Something I've been wondering (for about 60 seconds, I've not been pondering it for weeks or anything like that). Do you think we could operate the aircraft carrier? So, let's imagine by 'we' I mean everyone who's posted in here in the last two weeks.

So, if we just took those people and put them in the aircraft carrier... let's say it's already in the middle ocean but not 'turned on' (key is in the ignition, but not engaged). Without any other personnel on board could we, between us, work out how to luve in the aircraft carrier and figure out how it 'works'.

Do you reckon they have manuals on board?

I assume there's internet, if we can figure out the connection and get it working (power is off from the beginning). Not sure if we'd need passwords and the like, though?

I read that actually :) They just turned up in the film, as I remember because for some reason they never went home after the exhibition thingy (been a while since I watched it). So maybe they just sail the oceans looking for folk in trouble.

One problem that springs to mind is the turning circle. I struggled with a hire boat on the Norfolk Broads once because the controls were a steering wheel at the front of the craft so I didn't get the hang of the delay in the response (not to mention turning the wheel left moved the thing left!). It's so much easier standing at the back of a narrowboat with your hand on the tiller, watching and feeling the boat respond.

Starting, stopping, and avoiding shallow water might be tricky too.

Ok, you're re-hired, that was a little harsh. You'll have to find a way to get back on board, though, as I think we chucked you over the edge.

I don't think we can let the retired chaos on board. Firstly, then it's not just us, and secondly, they are almost certainly pirates.

Yeah I think we would not even get the engines started, which would probably be for the best. So it depends on the mission. We could have fun until all the food ran out I reckon.

Are we allowed to construct sails thus negating the need for an engine?

That's what I was wondering. If we could even get it going, get the power on, etc, before even thinking of moving it. I wasn't really thinking of a missing, rather just could we get it from, say, Bermuda back to the UK. Or just potter around in it. They must have some kind of entertainment on board.

I wonder what they do for things such as cheese? I wonder if they just never have cheese? That would be a sad boat.

By the end of the day, this will be an idea pitched to Channel 5.

'Forget Minecraft.. here's Aircraft (Carrier). We place 12 strangers on an abandoned aircraft carrier in the middle of the ocean and see what they die of first'
