I wonder what they do for things such as cheese? I wonder if they just never have cheese? That would be a sad boat.

This page on Royal Navy food slang contains the splendid sounding "Cheesy-hammy-eggy", so I think we're OK on the cheese front.

Chef!! (Who'd be the chef?)

See to this, please:

Something I've been wondering (for about 60 seconds, I've not been pondering it for weeks or anything like that). Do you think we could operate the aircraft carrier? So, let's imagine by 'we' I mean everyone who's posted in here in the last two weeks.

So, if we just took those people and put them in the aircraft carrier... let's say it's already in the middle ocean but not 'turned on' (key is in the ignition, but not engaged). Without any other personnel on board could we, between us, work out how to luve in the aircraft carrier and figure out how it 'works'.

Do you reckon they have manuals on board?

No, there will be no manuals on board. No one issues manuals these days, so we'll just have to ask the Royal Navy Forum how to start it up ("put your foot on the brake peddle while turning the ignition key, obv, you eejit") and get a load of 'Gurus' giving contradictory advice, the first of which will be to create a read-only 'perfc' file with no suffix in c:\windows, and while the ship itself will be protected from all ransomware, it would still be a carrier ...........

Sounds good to me, and yes, I reckon we could do a passable job of getting it moving under it's own power and not sinking.
There are very detailed operating procedures for military equipment, designed to be followed by their least skilled recruits.

We've got to get either the gas turbines or diesel generators running, and then push buttons on the bridge. How hard can it be?

What we need is a Star trek wrapper for the controls, 4 or 5 technohats and adequate beers.

Sorted

That won't reach to land. They have sat comms but encrypted.

The manuals are digital.

I designed some systems on her on a previous job.

I've just ordered a 3rd SNES mini as my brother wanted one. Turns out, he's ordered one at the same time. Pah.

I think I've got another friend who wants one. If not, I'm going to cancel it. (unless anyone here wants it?) I can't see this being as short supply as the NES mini.

£69.99. There's no doubt that the Retropie will do a lot more but it does involve more hassle with setting it up though.

I've looked into one myself but never really followed it through. I should really. It sounds exactly like the kind of thing I'd like to do.

Davpaz could make them for us and bring them to MeatUp that I need to pay Chuckles or Giggles for.

Snes mini's seem to be going out of stock as soon as they come in stock anywhere so up to you but i dont think you would have a problem selling it on.

I have a Pi and yes they are wonderful devices but can be quite off putting to set things up on if you want to do 'everything' with it - which is often the problem - you may get on better by focusing on one system and just getting that working the way you want (device handling on them now is very good and most USB devices just connect and work with nothing else - bluetooth is a bit more fiddly)

A Pi plus case / PSU / memory card should be around £45 - £50 on Amazon as a bundle ?

I'll probably get one eventually but I've got my eyes on a new PC first.

Also... Grim... mentioned a new Adblock to use in Chrome the other day. Anyone remember what it was called?

I could. Cash up front though. I've heard about you lot.

In all seriousness...

Starter Kit
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Raspberry-Pi-O ... berry+pi+3

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gamers-Gear-Cl ... controller

£48.79 for the Pi Kit
£10.95 for the controllers

And some brain work (or sending the card to someone else to set it up)

I think my friend wants it now so sorry. I'll keep you in mind if he doesn't come through though and yes, I'm close. I live just around the corner and up the road from Dudley Zoo where you're going to see American Werewolf in London.

No probs. I think there's likely to be a decent chunk of extra stock coming so I should be fine to get one before they discontinue it.

They're completely different to the Atari carts and more closely resemble some Intellivision carts I already have. Unfortunately, I don't actually have a console to test them on. I don't think either Kung-Fu Master or Wonder Boy were release for the Intellivision, so I'm guessing they're mis-labelled. Unless there's another console that had a similar cartridge design?

So... I ended up buying an intellivision, partly to test these cartridges out and.. they don't fit. I think they're actually C64 carts. Now to decide whether to actually buy a Commodore 64 now. :S

I missed your original post but they dont look like C64 carts to me either (although a picture of the edge of the cart and the back may help)

Looking online the 'style' of cart looks like these Colecovision ones

http://colecovision.dk/wonder-boy.htm

If you look at any UK coleco cart they do have a little indent on both sides at the top to grab them and that looks like a slightly modified version of that (I wonder if they were a non UK set - maybe from somewhere else in Europe ?)

Actually that seems to be quite common if you look at some of the other carts on there - its a .DK site so wonder if that was more normal in Denmark

(e.g. Keystone Capers - again look at the top of the cart - http://colecovision.dk/keystone.htm )

I hadn't considered the Colecovision actually; that's another console I don't own. However, it seems the C64 did had a few cartridges of that indented shape. In fact, I have one - 'The Designer's Pencil'.. which would explain why the shape was familiar. :)

I did find this listing on Ebay Australia, which does show the exact Kung-Fu Master cart I have, and it's for the C64.

So very much enjoying BF4 online, but annoyed that so many sodding maps are DLC. DLC is a curse upon humanity. I'm quite surprised that the plan fort Battlefront 2 is that all maps are available to everyone, at least last I heard, as they don't want the player base split between DLC and non-DLC.

That was really good.

It'd be best sent to a kindle, because it is indeed long. Come back after to watch the videos, they're not that good anyway.

Colleague: In Singapore for 2 and a half years…
Me: ….um…. great to see you again!

Well, here's a combination of words I didn't expect:
