I lived there for three years. I spent them all in my ivory (red-brick) tower strenuously resisting the miasma of corruption that hung about the city.

Post subject:  Re: Anime

I think I can remember seeing:

Bubblegum Crisis (classic, Nene is teh hawt, loads of episodes)
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Macross 2
Grappler Baki (the world's most brutal and ridiculous karate championship)
Judge (by day, nerd... by night, he punishes bad people)
Patlabor 2
Dominion Tank Police
Lupin 3: Mystery of Mamo
several Dirty Pair episodes
Wings of Honnaemise (alternate history space program... very interesting)
Burn Up
Plastic Little (mmmm, nipples)
Lensman!
Legend of Lemnear (more Satoshi Urushihara nippleage)
Vampire Hunter D

I'm sure there's loads more I've forgotten.

The best anime ever is obviously Jiburiru: The Devil Angel.

Watch:
My Neighbour Totoro
Spirited Away
Castle in the Sky

Then come back and tell us they aren't some of the best films ever made, and I will call you a big silly man to your avatar.

Do any of them have futuristic pew pew? Or even the more common "schoolgirls being violated by giant multi-cocked demons"? No. They have twee. So they can fuck off, and then fuck off some more.

GiTS 2 is good, GiTS3 is in my pile of 'stuff to watch', as is Appleseed 2. I am still waiting for a DVD release of Battle Angel Alita (or Gunnm), which was one of my favorites. It'll come out as soon as Mr Cameron makes it into a 'real' film (if he ever does).

I have indirectly. Great stuff, that.

Most disappointing one I've watched was "Blood of the Vampire", or something, which started brilliantly but turned out to be a disappointing 35 minutes long. Bastards.

Liked My Neighbour Totoro, in fact when it comes to Miyazaki I've still got The Cat Returns to watch.

Other stuff I liked.

Wicked city is pretty good, though I haven't seen it in years.
Urusei Yatsura. Subbed and mostly through Youtube. Funny as hell though in places.
Patlabor. On video and really excellent.
Robotech. Another oldie but goodie, though its about 3 different series spliced together.

Incidentally, if you want a copy of both parts of the live action Death Note films from Film 4 recently, I've still got them on my HD Recorder that I can burn off or GJ has the discs already.

Good films too, though it would've been better stitched as one long film - although I think each one is about 2½ hrs so that may be why.

I would very much like them, yes please!

I've read the first 9 books (of 13). Do you know if the movies cover all of them, as whilst the first seven or so were excellent, the story is really starting to drag now. For a non-spoilery answer, just tell me if the film involves the character of Near, as he only pops up in book eight or so.

Cheers!

I don't remember anyone with that name Curio, but I was quite tired when I watched part two. From looking at the Wiki entry, the film has a different ending to the books. Just for the record, I really enjoyed the films. :)

Cool. He's a young fella. There are two of them who are rivals from an Orphanage, trying to bring down the people with the Death Note. 'Near' is the more honourable of the two. The other one is called 'Mello'.

That's vague enough so as not to be spoilers.

The books are well worth a read, though #9 was a bit rubbish. I may as well buy 10-13 though, for completeness.

Finally got around to (trying) to watch these today.

Alas, it wouldn't play on my PS2 or via the default player on the laptop. I then tried loading it via our DivX player, which also gave an error three seconds in, but I managed to skip past that. Alas, it seems to run perfectly and then just come to a juddering halt every couple of minutes. Not sure if it's a problem with the disc or with the codecs I have or something. What were you playing them on?

I recently purchased the complete Lucky Star collection on DVD. I really enjoyed watching a fansubbed version years ago, and am falling in love with the series again. It may well be my favourite Anime series.

I had a minor Anime revival recently by watching the first two films in the Rebuild of Evangelion series. It's been ages since I saw the original series, so I can't really say how it compares. Who knows when parts 3 & 4 will get released though (and how long it will take before they're in a language I can actually understand).
