I watched the first episode of this last night and thought it was excellent. Also, boobs everywhere, so extra points for that.

I'd have gone on to watch another episode but it was already rather late, so I'll carry on with it this evening.

Lots of interesting plates spinning and things to think about even after just one episode though.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
One thing I did wonder about though, is even though the robots can't hurt the humans, the humans could still hurt themselves somehow, by falling off a horse or down one of those big canyons or something. Plus, the humans have weapons that work so what if they shoot each other by accident? Or do they only work on robots? Or are they even they even they are all? The big 'map room' suggests it's all some sort of big simulation that maybe people get jacked into like The Matrix, but then, you wouldn't need real robots at all.

I'm sure all this will be answered as I move through the season.

We just watched the first episode this morning. I didn't think I'd like it as I don't remember thinking much of the film, but I really enjoyed it. Episode two while we have lunch. :)

I fear it's impossible to 'overthink' TWD :)

Westworld has a intriguing premise and it seems to be very well done, I don't think it's odd that a curious mind will start wondering about the nuts and bolts of how such a setup would function.

Unless you're advocating, like, not thinking about stuff, as a better alternative.

Hearthly is right, though. Westworld is, very obviously, a "water cooler" show. It's festooned with nods and nudges and clues and foreshadowing and is designed to be -- and can definitely withstand being -- analysed, pondered, and picked apart.

And there are some fantastic performances by the cast. Hopkins, obviously, but Thandi Newton is most enthralling.

And I'm not just saying that because she gets her tatties out.

I've always thought Jeffrey Wright (Bernard) to be very watchable -- he's great in Casino Royale and Boardwalk Empire -- and he's absolutely excellent in this.

I enjoyed the whole series. The finale was fantastic.

Now is there going to be a season 2?

Obviously. 2018.

Westworld Season One finish!

It was excellent, and whilst most of the reveals are done somewhat explicitly in the closing episodes I did find these two videos quite useful to piece a few extra things together (linked below). These are pure mega-spoilers, of course, so don't watch them unless you've watched all of Season One.

I don't think it was perfect, and there's a substantial suspension of disbelief required to buy into many of the techy elements of the park, how the hosts function and are controlled (or not controlled....), and I don't think it was always entirely consistent in following its own rules. The pacing was slightly off too IMO, although apparently it had a pretty tortured shooting and production schedule so that may well explain that side of things.

Overall though, splendid telly and great watch. Very much enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to others.

I'm really missing this. I think I need to go back and watch it again knowing what I know now. I don't think I've ever said that about a series before.

I thought it was good, did you watch the Marvelesque after credits teaser?

The biggest issue for me was Maeve’s journey. It was deeply unsatisfying as was her “power” which only transpired when it was needed for a contrived plot point. But she wants to give robots a choice! Oh, she’s just murdered an army with her mind. Meh.

S1 has a great hook about a theme park without conscience whereas S2’s theme of robots gaining conscience was done poorly and clouded with a terribly convoluted subplot about recreating humans and humans living forever. It inevitably descended into massive battles and killing and more killing and more killing. One episode has a showdown with an army of soldiers for seemingly no other reason but to fill airtime. The best episode for me was Akecheta’s episode which had a simple story beautifully told. It had everything about robots becoming conscious, the gods they feared, personal loss and salvation and how they found hope. If the series had paired back on the daft subplot it could have been amazing. It wanted to be cleverer than the viewer with lots of techno mumble jumbo dialogue and long discussions on freedom and choice and blah blah blah. No, just make an interesting plot for robots becoming awoke from a personal hell. Like the Indian tale.

I’d compare season 1 & 2 to The Matrix and it’s sequels. Let’s hope that season 3 isn’t Matrix Revolutions.

Okay, fair point I agree on Akecheta's episode, definitely my favourite as well.

I was left feeling a little sour over Maeve as well; she has all this power then it ended in such a way that left me thinking "Why didn't she just go with them?"

Let us hope future series as you say aren't terrible.

(Also I actually quite liked Matrix Revolutions.)

I think Maeve will be rekindled in the next series, they set it up by handing her over to the staff that helped her in the first place.

I see your point; they did copy her code (or the ability to spread commands) so it's likely.

So, season 2 of Westworld was mostly a fucking shitshow then. Thoroughly disappointed after how good S1 was. S2 was just a mess of badly implemented story-telling and overly wrought nonsense, with a huge chunk of added filler when they'd run out of clever-clever horseshit to throw at the wall. I found aspects of the finale genuinely embarrassing to watch and am now on the fence about whether to even bother with the next season when it finally rolls around.
