Will this film concentrate on how Kit Fisto earned his name?

The more trailers I see for this the more I'm convinced this is going to be amazing. We've got tickets for 6.30 on the 15th.

Star Wars seen.

Excellent...Alan Tudyk steals the show as the Imperial droid. Some reviews complained that it was too slow at the start but I didn't think that and thought it rocked along at a fair old pace. My only concern is the OTT amount of fan service in it but elements of the fan service were excellent and in keeping with the story (keep an eye out for some recognisable X-Wing and Y-Wing pilots) and some of the production / character design harked back to the original McQuarry concept art.

Overall: Many bananas

I thought Forest Whittaker over did it a bit, I really liked the ground assault sections and the way the Rebels aren't quite as shiny and goody-goody as they sometimes come across as.

I thought while watching it that it proves that Star Wars can do slightly 'darker' stories and don't have to lean heavily on existing characters to present a definite Star Wars film.

The more I think about it, the more I find to like about it.

I think the universe is interesting and well defined enough that they could make a film totally removed from the main film arc and it would work fine. You could make a film about a rag tag group of space outlaws doing something daring somewhere, without any Jedi or Death Stars or Grand Galaxy Saving Feats and it would still be recognizable as a Star Wars film if done right.

It was fucking brilliant. Can't wait to watch again.

Squirt, absolutely. There is a whole mythos, aesthetic and well, ecosystem to it and it would stand up well as a setting for many sorts of film. The bit in the space trading post was great.

I think a proper Star Wars espionage film set somewhere like that would be awesome - especially as a 15 cert. Imperial mole in the rebel spy ring, a brutal head of Imperial secret police, a jaded rebel spymaster and a population who'd actually rather they were just left in peace and are a bit ambiguous about the whole rebellion thing to begin with.

That was glorious. There's a few bits that could have been improved, but it was perfectly Star Wars in the way that the prequels weren't.

Yeah, I was surprised by that, to be honest. Most likely explanation being that the trailer featured footage from before the (allegedly quite drastic) reshoots. Beginning to wonder if the film was even darker before reshoots were demanded by Disney.

Loved that. I too noticed that there were a lot of stuff in the trailer that didn't make the film. Someone Gaywood knows who does SFX for big films (Avengers etc) told me that they do about six versions of each scene anyway, one for the first trailer, another for the next one, one for the initial cut of the film, etc. So I can certainly understand there being differences, but it was especially noticeable.

Overall though, I thought they nailed it. So much so that I think it will make enjoy Ep4 more.

I think so. Interesting piece from the Guardian about this: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theg ... s-trailers

This would be my main criticism of the film. I thought it had odd, lumpy pacing, where (I suspect) the stitches are showing between the pre-reshoot and post-reshoot material. Ideas are introduced but abandoned, or something is setup and then immediately brushed away. Vox does a good job of nailing the issues: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.vox.co ... oid-google

I still enjoyed it, and the last act is great. But it wasn't nearly as good as TFA for me, which had a defter touch with its characters.

I think that TFA benefits from being able to let the characters breathe more. You can get to know them a bit without their character/story arcs having to move too far. With Rogue One you need to have these brand new characters introduced and have everything happen to them within just this one film. K2 and possibly the blind chap aside, I don't think the characters were massively memorable. Most of them are fine, and I did care what happened to them, but that's about all. Part of the risk of having an ensemble cast in a compressed action film.

There are definitely parts of Rogue One I liked more than TFA, but also vice versa. I'd put both in the top half of Star Wars films though.

The prequels, Caravan of Courage, and the Star Wars Christmas special don't exactly make that a high bar.

That moaney article was illinformed bollocks, rich. Eg the whole "ooh but at what point in the civil war was this set" - read the fucking rolling text at the start of ep4 - this was their first victory in battle. The "they never fully explained what saw's lot were doing", did the guy need this spoon-fed? They were extremists, this was explained fairly explicitly. Etc etc. The film was ace, anyone who thinks otherwise is objectively wrong.
