That's the default behaviour for playing all normal PS4 games in PSVR. It's a bit rubbish though, I don't know that you'd use it for anything when you have a perfectly good telly right there.

3D, presumably? Or you might have a tiny telly. Can't think why you'd have a tiny telly and a PSVR setup though.

PSVR does have support for 3d Blurays now. I was excited to try it until I realised I don't have any 3D blurays. I don't know if it works with ripped video via any of the things like Plex, but I doubt it.

Quite. I guess you could be gaming while someone else in your house uses the TV, that's not nothing.

Not really. It's not compelling enough to overcome my laziness. I'm sure you can see how it could still be very compelling in that scenario.

I've got a couple of Marvel films on 3D Bluray that I'll try and remember to bring with me to the BBQ (assuming you're coming)?

You can also play ripped films if they're in a specific format; I tried it for porn for, um, science and it worked well enough. There's an app for the PS4 called LittlStar that's basically a movie player and if you feed it side-by-side video files, with some caveats, and it'll play them in 3D through the headset. Some details of the formatting and whatnot to adhere to here:

That's very kind of you but unfortunately I can't make it.

I have at least one ripped side-by-side 3D film lying around, which I used to test my TV's 3D support. So with your information there's nothing stopping me from getting this working other than the fact I might not care enough to actually do it ;)

From a selfish perspective this worries me slightly. I want VR games; good VR games. Devices like this are never going to be able to touch 'tethered' VR tech in terms of capability so I worry that this form factor would leech investment and development away from the stuff I care about. It makes perfect sense for companies like Facebook to go after yer man in the street--because that's where the money is of course--but it could smother 'proper' gaming VR in it's crib.

I dunno, I think that if it works even reasonably well then it might only swell the market for more high end VR stuff. Once people get into something then lots of them will be willing to fork out for a better version.

Last night I "was" the Batman, although annoyingly it felt the need to have its own calibration that decided I was too short to "be" the Batman, and had to move the camera. It also seems to override the default calibration, so when I found myself facing at 90 degrees to my actual character, the doesn't seem to be an option to recenter and I had to force close it.

The ending is head (and the rest)-fuckingly brilliant though.

I made the mistake of playing the Here They Lie demo before it though, and the movement made my stomach go all over the place, so that's out.

It definitely works, I've done it loads of times for people when they've been on the headset with the Move controllers and I've been 'supervising' with the pad in my hand.

ETA: I looked it up and I suspect you've been using the wrong button. The official support page mentions that the in-game calibration can be re-run at any time if you hold down the Start button, but you want the Options button for the global level recentre command.

Ah, I'd kind of assumed that start acted the same as option (I thought I'd used the start button to re-centre in other games).
I definitely got GJ to pass me a pad, as I was aware that, strictly, I wasn't holding option, but start, and didn't think I'd had any luck with that either, but maybe I'd already given up by that point.

Yeah, I mean if you're going to use the strict definition it's fair to say that one button probably isn't actually a completely different one. Y'know, if you wanted to be all pedantic about it. ;)

The buttons on the Move controllers are just such a pain in the arse I don't bother with them. The trigger and Move button themselves are fine of course but the others are just horrible. Any time I try to use the face buttons I always get the wrong one (I'm looking at you I Expect You to Die) and the Start Select/Options buttons I can just never find. The movement sensing stuff is fine but the button layout is a pretty shite design all in.

Batman deals with this quite nicely at the beginning by drawing the controllers for you.

That's not much of a defence; regardless of how you're playing a game, if you need to look at the controller to work out where the buttons are it's a bad experience.

Just in case it helps, if you press the PlayStation button when in VR there should be an option on the quick menu that pops up labelled [Adjust PlayStation VR] that might also let you recentre the view properly. Obviously that's less convenient than just holding a button down but better than nothing I suppose.

Fair enough; I've no idea why that would happen. I did a bit of Googling and apparently 'hold Options to re-centre' isn't a universally implemented feature so it might not work in some games but I'm like 99% sure I've done it in Batman specifically. That's not very helpful though I realise.
