Anybody here use Talk Talk?

Looking at the prices on some compare sites they are around £150 a year cheaper than my current BT Infinity and can offer the same product, there is also a £75 high street shopping voucher offer if you order online.

Is there support Indian based? With BT it all is and over the last few years if my line dropped in speed I just never bothered to call as the support was a nightmare.

Not used them myself but know several people who have and don't stick around - they're notoriously shite.

I was with Zen Internet for 8 years with no problems at all.

Decided to switch to TalkTalk purely to save money.

I switched back to Zen after 3 weeks, cancelling the 12 month TalkTalk contract as the service was not fit for purpose.

Ok great, thanks for the feedback, not worth the £150PA saving by the sound of things!

Can't afford to have no\shite internet in the house and to BT's credit its been rock solid for the last 3 years.

They did offer to drop £8 a month from the cost if I sign up again for 12 months so will do that.

BT do offer some other things that I never use- Free Sports and also Wi-Fi hot spots everywhere, for that you have to use their router and be a hotspot, which I don't.

Might be worth looking at PlusNet who are often cheaper than BT (although they are a subsidiary company, ultimately).

I have just moved from BT to plusnet, the speed of the internet is a bit slower (noticeably at times), and the initial response from websites seems poorer.

I've been on Plusnet for a couple of years and the internet seems to reliably pack up every sunday evening. Which is shit.

Moved from Sky (formerly Be) ADSL to PlusNet FTTC at the start of the month. It's had a couple of wobbles but both were sorted by rebooting the router, seems OK so far.

I think we're with Sky, and sometimes, for no discernible reason, our internet starts to crawl and we can't watch iPlayer or anything like that.

Weird... been with PN for as long as I can remember and I think the only time there was an issue was about 6 years ago!

I used to have Virgin fibre broadband. It was the most consistently speedy and reliable internet I've had.

I'm with Grim... But clearly he's got more than his fair share as mine is the 15meg line. I've only had it go down 2 or 3 times in the 7 years I've lived here.

I just phoned BT and got my infinity for £15 a month after a bit of moaning. Based on our dealings with Talk Talk business at work I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

76 with no download limit. Line rental on top of that, but still cheap.

SKY (for obvious reasons) are really hot on blocking download sites via their DNS, helped a guy at work use Google DNS to get around this

He looked to be using obvious sites like Pirate Bay, so not sure if they do any shaping on NG downloads

One thing I can say after 3 years with BT is that they never packet shape or mess with the speed like Virgin do.

Virgin don't mess with the speed on anything but the cheapest package that they offer.

I'm with Sky and torrent stuff all the time; no traffic management to speak of. And to be fair to them they only block sites when a court order compels them to.

Can the blocking really be worked around with DNS changes? I'd assumed it would be done at a deeper level than that and I'm pretty sure my PC is setup to use Google DNS already. Though maybe I need to tell the router to use it somehow as well.

I don't have the issue but I sent the guy some links on how to make the change on his Macs and maybe router and he was really pleased and said it all works

As I say my PC's NIC is definitely set to use Google DNS and I still can't access TPB et al but I'll see if I can make the change at the router level--which is probably a good idea anyway for the sake of my tablet and phone--and see if that changes things at all.

Does anyone here use Now TV's broadband service? I've been trying to hunt reviews online for performance but I'm not turning up anything useful. Any horror stories to share?

Apart from laggy-as-shit set top boxes, I've always found sky to be fab for TV and broadband, and I've been with them in 5 different flats over a decade.

I found Sky to be a bit flaky when I used them in south west london.

this is the thing with broadband, it seems to be possible to find binary experiences of all the providers. I've had no problems with BT, but many people have. I had big problems with Plusnet but many love them.

It's almost like the service varies from location to location!!!!!11!

I don't know what to think.

I went with Vodafone.

I just stayed with them in the end, to be fair I've never had any issues with them, and no hassle on downloading.

I will have pulled down the best part of 10TB is August as well

I found them terrible for the dirty feeling you get for giving Murdoch your money.
