Another good read

Quote:
One of the very early committed arcade collectors here in the UK was a guy called Pete Davies.

Known on the arcade forums as Invadar, he was by all accounts, very well liked by his fellow collectors. I can’t say that I knew him on a personal level (I’m not sure that many people did), but was obviously aware of his presence and input into the community. Regarded as a “salt of the earth” kind of bloke, he was an active participant in the early days of UKVAC and was more than generous with his time and knowledge – happy to help out everyone and anyone who needed it. When I asked around as recently as last week, it seems everyone had good words to say about him. Many recount stories of help, sharing of spare parts, board repairs and generous trades with Pete throughout the years. He was known for having an encyclopedic knowledge of the technical side of arcade collecting, with a particular penchant for Universal and Taito arcade cabinets.

Man that's a nay but yay story. What a collection! Glad to read it's going to be treasured by the community he was part of.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 47

A man has turned up with a ladder outside my window, I assume for the flat above. I think he's fitting a coaxial line for an aerial.

I'm just feeding D breakfast, when this ladder makes its way up, after about 15 minutes of jiggling the ladder about some guy ascends with a length of cable. He's pulling the cable up, but instead of unwinding it first it must have become stuck on the reel, so instead of descending and unraveling the cable he starts yanking at the cable with all his might, which makes the cable less likely to unwind as it tightens in the reel. Again instead of going down the ladder he starts violently pulling the lead up and up until the massive wooden reel, about 80cm diameter, comes bang into my window. How it didn't smash the frogging window to bits I do not know.

It's unlike me, but I've just, as calmly as I could, told the idiot in no uncertain terms that, as he saw as he passed by my window and had a good look in, I am feeding my baby, and he has just almost smashed the window a few feet from us. Unfortunately his van has no markings or I'd be making a complaint if he worked for a firm.

Where is their consciousness stored? The head swapped toys in Sid's bedroom were still alive. Do they retain their original personality? What about toys without heads? Are they as swappable as their humanoid brethren?

It's horrible when you really think about it
