I'm in the cool place in The Village as Brexit is asleep and I wanted three beers or six. On a Sunday, they normally have folk musicians playing guitars, tambours and banjos. Today, there was only one old guy. He was awful. Really, really, bad. After 30 minutes of terrible playing, he packs up his guitar into the case, drains his pint and with a cheery "Next week, gents", I SHIT YOU FUCKING NOT, puts his hearing aids back in and smirks all the way to the door. Brilliant.

Blist Hill makes great chips too. I think it is because they are cooked in dripping like at the Black Country museum.

Cooked in droppings? No thanks. You folks are weird around that way.

Make sure you ask for the vegetarian option.

No, I had the beef dripping ones. I'm not vegetarian for moral reasons, it just disagrees with me, but I've allowed myself occasional non-veggie stuff whilst I'm breastfeeding, and will stop again when that comes to an end.

Lovely Faure's Requiem last night on BBC4. And the Cantique de Jean Racine. I'd recommend a listwn. It brought back happy memories* of the choir I was in as a teenager.

*It brought access to the private girl's school.

Missed it, dam. I really enjoyed the first night on Friday. I'd never heard Prokoviev's 'Alexander Nevsky' before but really want to hear it live now. And the Elgar cello was just as beautiful as ever.

BBC: Didcot chimney disappears in fog shock.

Quote:
Residents and commuters took to social media after the chimney at Didcot power station apparently vanished, leading to fears it had accidently collapsed.

...

However, site owner RWE NPower reassured people the tower was still standing and had been shrouded in fog.

The first one does take a little finding its feet , and the second one takes a little re-setting of the basics to make things connect but after that all the other books are great

The Wee Free Men - 2003
A Hat Full of Sky - 2004
Wintersmith - 2006
I Shall Wear Midnight - 2010
The Shepherd's Crown - 2015

It could be the heat. Keep drinking enough water and it might help.

I've noticed more and more people walking out in front of the car when crossing the road, which we've put down to people having slower brain reactions because of the heat.

So stay hydrated people, and stay AWAY from the FRONT of Mr T's CAR.

In the past 12 hours I have formally complained to Northern Rail, a haulage company and the HGV licensing authority dudes. And wrote a letter to the council about their proposal to build new homes near us. Not one a day without some form of confrontatin

Thinking I would have been better off working from home today in more suitable clothing rather than going into the office in my standard work garb. Still, glad that my car has air-con.

I was going to complain to the council but as it turns out the problem I've got is a common one. They've ordered these snazzy new recycling lorries -

to help people recycle more. Only some folk aren't getting their rubbish collected at all now and it turns out that the new lorries are too big for some of the town's narrow streets.

Last day in the old ugly office overlooking the homeless shelter. Moving back to the main, ugly site next week, but no longer guaranteed a desk so it'll be a case of either getting in early or wandering aimlessly trying to find a Wi-Fi signal. Might complete the form so I can get the option of working in either the cold war bunker or the local fire station if there's a free hot desk, just for the hell of it.

In the Telford office we had more staff than desks, it was silly.

That's ridiculous. I get antsy if we have an office move around, and I have a permanent desk. I can't imagine how badly that would affect my work to have to hot desk every day, and not be able to personalise my environment.

That's not quantifiable though. Paying the landlord for fewer desks is.
