Does Grim... know you're doing this, or are you surprising him?

Starting off by looking through the window, and upgrading to full tumescence once they're drunk and passing out.

Yup. Today I've played Quake 2 with other folk in the office and watched The Grand Tour and now I'm going home.

I was working until a few minutes ago. Just finished a Skype call with a fella over in Toronto expecting him to lay even more work on me, but turns out he's really happy with what I've done so far and we've agreed that we're in a good spot to finish for Xmas, so that's exactly what I'm doing. :)

We went carolling in The Village with about 100 others, looking at the Living Advent Calender. It was awesome.

Took about another five goes of this and her shivering with the cold before she agreed that we could stop it and go for a hot chocolate instead. Well worth it for the pure joy, though.

I mis-read this a few times as you forcing her to do it 5 times so you could film it.

I suppose in a sense I am. I always knew US cops were trigger happy, but seeing the difference between nations laid out in such a manner still rendered me speechless.

On an unrelated note, looks like someone's testing Companies House for SQL injection vulnerabilities.

I think a better metric would be unlawful police killings.

Don't agree. A killing is a killing, and whether one is considered "unlawful" is a matter of opinion and is vulnerable to corruption etc.

Just seeing the raw numbers allows you to make your own mind up.

It's utterly ridiculous, and yet they still bang on about terrorists all the time rather than look at their own failings.

But, you can't account for loads of really important stuff just by looking at the raw data which could/would/should skew it (general availabilty of guns to population, population size, etc.). It's nice for an big headline fivure, but not much use otherwise.

By looking at killings that were considered unlawful, you'd get a better picture of how trigger happy the police forces are, as these are incidences where the other factors can be accounted for, by a degree.

From the wiki article on US killings

Quote:
When deadly force is used within the prescribed manner, the killing is deemed a justifiable homicide. Some law enforcement agencies routinely investigate all uses of deadly force, while others investigate only cases involving extenuating circumstances. Other causes of death to suspects include accidents and police brutality. When circumstances surrounding a death are questionable, the death may be investigated by a state or federal agency or both.[10] Of the thousands of fatal police shootings from 2005 through 2015, 54 police officers were criminally charged as a result, and most of those officers were cleared or acquitted. According to a Washington Post report by Alice Crites and Steven Rich, officers who are convicted or plead guilty tend to get an average of four years of jail time, and sometimes only weeks.[9]

Yeah, but as a broad approach, you still need to slim the data pool down, as otherwise you have to toothcomb over it all. 'Unlawful' I think would give a better idea than 'All' as you can take into account a bank robbery gone wrong versus pushing people out of helicopters.

Police unions are incredibly powerful in the US. Actually getting an incident classified as an unlawful killing is vanishingly unlikely.

And you don't need to narrow it down anyway, because you're comparing like for like between countries. As long as you're using the same standard for both (all law enforcement killings) the comparison is valid.

"Unlawful" would give you no idea about anything, there are lots of places where cops kill people with almost total impunity so according to that metric the least trigger-happy cops in the world are probably blowing people away left and right daily in some third world ghetto somewhere.

Cops killed by civilians vs civilians killed by cops might reveal something about excessive force perhaps. But whatever you do unless you go to the trouble of getting out that toothcomb then there's a fairly high probability that you'll just be talking a load of absolute shite.

If you're looking for 'X is more trigger happy than Y', I think some reflection of other factors is needed, as there's an implication of recklessness in the use of force.

Quite.

Remember the guy that shot the black guy who was running away? Shot him multiple times in the back when in absolutely no danger whatsoever. As clear cut a murder as you will ever see. Then he planted evidence on the dead chap and pretended it was a struggle. Unfortunately it was caught on someone's mobile phone. You can watch it if you want. Horrible stuff, and no way on earth can anyone sensible not think it was straight up murder (from someone with a history of being a violent officer).

First trial for murded ended in a mistrial due to a hung jury. You'd have thought it would be easy.

Walter Scott if you feel like googling.
