First test print from a £150 3D printer that I picked up in a Black Friday sale.

Never played with one of these machines before. They're strangely satisfying to watch work.

I have to make sure it works to avoid disappointment on Christmas day. I need to be properly sure too so it's just printing off a gopro mount for my mini quad.

Gnngh. Unfortunately plenty, I still have a head in a vice hangover and we're entertaining for 30 people this evening, deep joy.

Poor Mrs C has had to do everything today whilst I've sat about trying not to be sick :(

Little things that make me happy: queueing at a ticket barrier on the Tube and giving a nod of recognition to a stranger wearing an Oxford City Stars hoodie.

Also: on my way in there were four other people taking the stairs down to the Underground at Marylebone. New record!

I keep on forgetting that parcels weighing over two kilos cost a heck of a lot more than those under that limit. My trip to the post office at lunch was a little hard on the wallet as a result.

Kidlington tourism news now!

The visiting Chinese have made the 'New York Times', only five months after I posted in B&B 46.

The explanation the paper proffers sounds plausible, admittedly.

I am kind of stunned, actually, I have been living with the idea that I finished all burnout games except Dominator, but it seems I skipped this one, probably because I didn't have a working Xbox at the time I was playing through the other games and didn't fancy playing it on PS2 (I have the Gamecube version of the first two games), and so went straight to Revenge on Xbox 360.

But it's ordered now, and I have something awesome to look forward to!

I've now loaded this up and I am absolutely positive I played it through before, that world map and music selection is quite unmistakable. So why didn't I have the game nor any save games? I never trade in my games, especially classics like this. Mystifying. And an excuse to play it again, of course.

Well chuffed with the cheap 3D printer I got. It's definitely a bit of a learning curve to get the best results out of it but it feels like magic when you're looking at something on the screen and then an hour later holding it in your hands.

I think it probably wouldn't hold enough gravy for you. It's actually listed as a watering can, but I really just printed it out because I need to see if the machine I bought is capable of printing out very thin parts like the RC plane I'm intending to make. But I might make a little set of planters to go on the bathroom windowsill, so it'll look nice with those I guess.

To be honest I don't think there's that much that most people could make with a 3D printer that would be of that much use, or that they can't just buy from ebay and have the next day anyway. It's more of a hobby sort of thing right now. For me, though, it's perfect for making small parts for RC stuff. Making an entire plane is really just a fun project. I can buy planes moulded in foam that are lighter and stronger and won't take days and days to print out.

The art tech at work used his to print out cogs and levers and other parts to repair other machines. He said he had the plans to print another printer.

Yeah, there are a few upgrade parts for mine that I can print out but in terms of printing out another printer it would mostly be limited to bracketry.

One of these:

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/maylan-m150-i3-uk-plug.html

But it was on sale for £150 at the time. It's basically a commercial version of a well established open source design so there's a wealth of knowledge out there and parts and upgrades are cheap and easy to come by but it definitely seems like something you need to be prepared to tinker with to get the best out of.

Thanks, interesting to read about a model that someone I know has actually used.

You should look on the thinyverse for cracker toys and make up custom cracker fillings!

The best use case I have for a 3D printer is marble run parts. The boy has three sets but only one track splitter in the lot.
