I've been pissing about with this rotateme for hours now, trying to get it certified. I've registered at Symbian signed and downloaded DevCertReq and all that shit, followed about six guides and had to register for a good three or four forums to get the files which aren't where all the guides point to them and so on.

Using the online certification thing, I just get a 'network error' message from the website.

My N95 serial is 353094021899113

If anyone has a certified copy that will run on my phone, or can certify the uncertified version easily, can you help? There's a pint of good karma in it for you!

I've been trying to do this for ages.. As far as I can see, Symbian stopped giving out certificates unless you're a big multi national company that has an account with them. This was the case last time I checked anyway..

If we'd have tried to get it signed about 3 months ago, it would have been no problem.. but alas... I think we're screwed.

This isn't immediately helpful (sorry), but I'd imagine Nokia will eventually include the auto-rotate capability in a firmware update, like they have with the N95 8GB.

Sorted - I hacked the phone and now it runs unsigned apps. I used the information below to do it, though there is bricking potential. I'll be damned if I'm going to buy a platform like that and not run what I want on it. Is working fine now, got the O2 branding off the phone (right context key now defaults to media player instead of internet, which is preferable, as media player is quicker to quit out of if you accidentally launch it) and I can run what I want now.

Strewth... that does seem like a lot of hard work to get it working. I have already debranded my phone from Orange and removed all of their software but that was a while ago.

I'm tempted to give this a try, but I'm going to have to have a clear head. Bricking my phone scares me!

I remember it being bad, but not too bad. I didn't do all that stuff above, but I did have to change the date on my phone.

I've got another app that lets you set start-up programs, so you can have RotateMe load all the time. I'll tell you where to get it tomorrow (when I look on my phone and remember what it's called).

There's also this, which looks straightforward enough, though I've not tried it myself:

Anyone any thoughts?

Sorry to resurrect this zombie thread, but I just hacked my N95 using the instructions and download found here:

http://www.finestfones.com/2008/06/inst ... wbies.html

It's on the site Goatboy linked to.

This hack was spectacularly easy, and it got RotateMe working fine! :-)

I just got one of these babies, and found a really easy way of making them run unsigned apps. I can look though my history for it if anyone really wants?

Anyone got any suggestions of cool apps for it?

I allready have RotateMe, powerboot, Y-broswer, LightSabre, JbakTaskman, TotalRecall, MobiGenie, TurboMSN and iSilo

I just put south park and porn on mine. But I can rotate south park and porn, and that's what matters.

If it's no bother, I'd be quite interested. Only if it's no bother, mind. Don't do it if it's bother.

Yeah, that's the same method I used, just outlined on a different site! :-)

Hmm, let me look.
Rotate-me, JoikuSpot (turns it into a wireless access point), Putty (telnet), ExtGps (lets the GPS be used over its bluetooth connection), PowerBoot (lets you load apps on startup), SmartCam (bluetooth webcam, voyertastic), ShakeSMS (just shake your phone to read new messages, you don't have to unlock it), ShoZu (upload pictures to Flickr or vids to YouTube), SportsTracker (lets me have the GPS on so ShoZu can geo-tag my photos), Twibble (I'm going through a Twitter phase) and Opera Mini.

Also, are you using the correct version of the hack, ie. 9.1 for a 9.1 device, and 9.2 for a 9.2 device? I know it sounds obvious, but on the download page, they're simply labelled 'Hack 9.1' and 'Hack 9.2', which makes it look like their the first and second revisions of a program called 'Hack 9'.

Erm, I dunno. I did it all anyway. It let me install something, which then didn't work for different reasons but it passed the cert thingy.
