I think we could bring on Sharon Stone and it wouldn't be any worse.

Pooney has been awful.

Obviously Hodgson will lose his job now. Then perhaps the stupid FA can finally accept that paying £5 million (or whatever) per year to an England manager is ludicrous, since you could pay a more normal salary and underachieve and bore in just the same way.

We should have brought in Harry (Redknapp) he has a much better winning history than Roy, who managed to keep a few shit teams in the PL.

To this day I don't understand why we didn't do that.

Watching that was awful, at no point did England exhibit any tactical ability at all. I was genuinely supporting Iceland, they looked so much better and interested.

If ever this tattered Country needed a lift; it's terrified people's something to cheer about; a crumb of comfort.... and our footballers duly oblige by losing to Iceland, a country with the population of Leicester and not one professional club. I don't know much about football, granted, but I've seen better at a Sunday league pub clash than that; second half was almost surreal in its shitness.

I mean really, icing on the cake etc. Fuck football, seriously. Useless arseholes.

I was supporting Iceland. I mean at first, it was a bit of a wind up (I don't really care about Association Football in any form any more), but as I watched, they enthused me. They showed passion, and thoroughly deserved their win.

You clearly didn't watch Villa play last season.

After the super sexy football of Italy vs Spain, the England game was a quick grope behind the chip shop bins.

I think some of the disappointment comes from the impression (at least I have the impression) that there is a brilliant team hiding in that squad…last night not withstanding periods of the Russian game and the German friendly showed that…made even more infuriating that I’m not sure that there is a manager out there who can come in and find it.

I've put a tenner on Eddie Howe being next England manager at 8/1. He won't, and shouldn't be, but just in case I need something to soften the blow. Needs to manage a top team or turn Bournemouth into a top team first.

If it's any consolation, my team lost in the Copa America final against Chile, and Messi has apparently ragequit (lol, bless him, he can't leave till he wins us a big, shiny trophy).

I feel like 1/1000000000 of England's pain.

For me with regards to England, it's been probably about 15 years. There's simply no pleasure or joy from ever watching them, ever, in anything, so yes as you basically say, just forget about them and enjoy the truly special players and teams you get in these tournaments.

I still love watching England, even when they're rubbish. There's no other team that can match them when it comes to pure drama.

Maybe Brasil, or Portugal from 15 years ago (check the eliminations from Euro 2000 and WC 2002. Also worthy is how we were out of WC qualifier for France98). But Portugal players have become way too professional and cold headed in the last 10 years.

I usually support England, but as with probably everyone else in the world I was rooting for Iceland yesterday.
