Ours has a Fennec Fox (called Fennec Fox) that she has been sleeping on for years and years. She always has a few more, such a Lemmy (a lemur), but she goes crazy if we can't find them or leave them at home during a sleepover or whatnot.

That's brilliant! The papers would love this. Is it worth getting in touch with the Safari Park? I'm sure they've got a PR person there who would write up a press release for you.

Got pulled over by the Police today for jumping a red light.

I was polite and coughed to it straight away, (my dad once told me they take a dimmer view if you don't know why they have pulled you over.)

When I explained why I did it, he let me go with a small lecture on taking my time to get where I'm going!

When the light changed and had I stopped I would have been on a double space "keep clear" bit of the road with around 10 cars to my left I would have been blocking.

So I told him I thought the lesser of 2 evils was to push through the light just as it changed rather than blocking the traffic. I was doing a left turn when I jumped the light so was quick

Suprised he let me off really as I was bang to rights.

The amber light is timed to the speed limit of the road. If you can't stop in time you're either going too fast or your reaction times are so bad you should have your licence revoked. ;)

Even if that's the rule, it's not applied (or maintained, at least) universally.

A lot of them are *definitely* not timed to the braking distance of an Austin Shitbox like the highway code is (is it still?)

Had to take my son to a super hero themed 4th birthday party for most of this afternoon.

Couldn't really be arsed as its a nice hot day, then had fight with my wife as my sons Superman outfit looks like he found it in a skip (he has just worn it hard) and I wanted to buy him a new one for the party and she didn't :)

When I got there it turned out that we had met the birthday boy's parents around 4.5 years ago on a Hypno birthing course, we got on really well, but the changes with 1st kid arriving etc meant we never kept in touch

Our boys will go to the same school\class we are going to catch up again. :)

So a few of you may have seen on the Book of Many Faces that my progeny was admitted to hospital last week and had her appendix removed.

I have never shit myself so much in my entire life and I have done numerous scary things such as - jumped out of an aeroplane, abseiled off the Humber Bridge and made a complete twat of myself on national TV.

She was misdiagnosed on Monday night with a water infection so had two days of potentially unecessary pain and then it ruptured so she was operated on first thing Thursday - longest 3 hours of my life. When she came out of theatre I don't think I have ever felt so relieved.

She had another few days in hospital and got out yesterday and is now recovering at her Mum's back in Yorkshire.

Nay Stuff;

Surgeon said it was one of the worst ruptures they had seen and were surprised she hadn't been howling in pain
Seeing your daughter in a lot of pain that you can do nothing about is something I would not wish on my worst enemy
The drain that was inside her appeared to be the length of an anaconda - taking that huge fucker out was the thing that caused her one solitary tear
The misdiagnosis on Monday just then made me fearful about what else they could have got wrong so I was convinced she would get peritonitis or her other organs would just explode for no reason
The week of fun we had planned together got somewhat knocked on the head quite badly

Yay Stuff;

She was on a cruise two weeks earlier so that would have been a really bad time for it to happen
The hospital was absolutely amazing. The staff couldn't have been any more attentive or friendly
The hospital was also quite empty - so at one point Megan was the only child on the entire peadiatric ward and she had a room to herself for the duration with a bed for me / her Mum.
I was off for the week anyway so was able to be there for her throughout, which was great for bonding
She took some bad pain like an absolute legend with only one tear throughout the whole week
Loads of messages of support which are helpful and distracting in a time of stress
Future Mrs Trousers was a rock throughout - she'd previously been through 6 weeks of hell in Spain when her Dad had a bad accident and had to have his arm amputated (she had to make that decision) so she was a calming influence during my Frantic Anxious Dad moments.
She gets out of P.E. for 6 weeks.

Still she'll have a good story for "Wot I did on my summer holidays".

Bloody hell! Glad to hear she's ok mate. Speaking from experience drain removal feels bloody awful (even when whacked out on goofballs) so she's a bloody tough nut!

Was bad enough taking my lad to hospital for some teeth out, can't imagine how bad it was watching your girl go through that.

Big hugs all round. (not too tight, mind).

Sorry to hear about your sprog, Trousers - glad it ended OK though.

Both of my younger brothers had a ruptured appendix and I remember the youngest having also been misdiagnosed and sent home. He was left with me while my mum went out shopping and I don't know if it ruptured at that precise moment but he went from being uncomfortable/poorly to writhing around on the floor screaming. I was about 10-11 years old so he'd have been about 6-7 and it was fucking terrifying.

Holy shit that must have been rough. I was flustered enough as an (ostensible) adult - not sure what I would have one at 10 or 11.
