Mostly it's more of an "oh" moment.

I concur. I've had a front tyre blow out on me on the motorway. It didn't substantially alter the balance of the car, just made the steering wobble very slightly and obviously it's noisier.

I was going to make some crappy joke about him being a chef and not knowing much about cars, but I see he's done motor racing too, so I'd better not.

Ha! Yeah, he loves his cars.

It was a little scary, I felt like a metronome, as we were changing lanes about to overtake something, and then swerved back in when Pauline (who was driving) realised something was wrong, then mild panic from the realisation that we did have a puncture. Then a really upset 8 year old, who thought we might be stuck there for ever. Still, it could have been much worse, no one was hurt, the minibus was fine (other than needing a new wheel) and the weather was fair. Hence the yay, nay, yay nature.

Removed everything from Top Lawn Bed One this morning in preparation for putting the summer flowers in. Took a while, but i am a bit lazy with it. Anyway, wild garlic hasn't returned too much, so the birds can have a good feed and this week I will replant.

The gardener said we should remove the holly bush completely, so I spent a while stripping that back to the trunk before realising I don't pay her to advise.

After Dad's little adventure in hospital last week, I decided I owed it to myself to look after myself a little more. To that end, I booked a dentist's appointment for the first time in years (on the form I filled in, I put 10+ years, but I really have no idea.. could be 15). Although the pain from the TMD I had has more or less gone, things didn't feel right, so I knew something was going to have to be done. I'd lost a couple of fillings last year and when they came out, they took part of the tooth with them, so I figured worse case scenario would be a couple of extractions and some fillings. Obviously not ideal, but all my own fault for neglecting things for so long.

Had the appointment this morning and my suspicions were confirmed - need two teeth out and four fillings, to be done early next month. That's the 'Nay', but the mini 'Yay' was the fact that I'm finally getting it sorted. I'm horrendous for putting stuff off and burying my head in the sand, so today was anxious, but I'm glad I went.

Well done! I need to do the same thing - I may be at a worse level of denial, mind, as I think my teeth are basically okay. So my fall/realisation may be worse when it happens.

The best thing I've ever done in terms of dental 'self care' is switching to an electric toothbrush. I've gone from getting fillings embarrassingly often to not a single one since I made the switch a few years ago. The actual movement of the brush head is of benefit I'm sure, but for me I think it more comes down to the fact that you're slower and more deliberate with your movements so end up being much more thorough. Also the typically small brush head of these things lets you get into all the parts of your mouth. The difference with it for me has been incredible.

Agreed. I wish I'd made the switch sooner. I'd looked upon them as an unnecessary luxury item, but they're not that expensive now and they're not as harsh on my gums as a regular toothbrush.

I can't bear it when I see someone using an electric toothbrush the exact same way as a manual one. Saw some stupid news item about them where they were all doing it and I wished they were all dead.

Well you can check the tax status of any car if you have the numberplate and make, and you can't get taxed if you're not insured...

There's also a screen to query insurance directly but you have to tick a thing to promise it's your own car or you're legally entitled to make the query so I won't use that one!

Maybe I'll write down my neighbour's numberpate and run it through the checker.

Yeah but that's no guarantee that the insurance is still valid after the initial tax date?

I was just being a cynic anyway, I'm sure your neighbour's car is legit and above board :DD

Good job I looked at that link. Put my own car in on a whim and my tax ran out in March. Thanks for the timely reminder letter DVLA!

Have filled in the gov.uk pay tax online form and they aren't even going to take my first payment until the 8th May and it says the DVLA might be in touch about my offence of driving without tax. Doh!

Got home from the Manchester Firstball softball tournament at about 10pm last night. Won all four games on the Saturday - I made one particularly memorable play from third base throwing to first - went out and got pissed watching the boxing, then lost our first game on the Sunday (I had a shocker at second base). We won our next two to get to the Bronze Cup final, but were well beaten there.

All in all a brilliant weekend, but I'm paying for it now. So glad there's no work today.
