I have just been to get my post from downstairs and there was a card in the box along with my mail.

Now, I have not been out all day and the doorbell has definitely not gone off at all, so even if it isn't dodgy the 'we tried to deliver' bit is misleading, but something about this seems well dodgy and off.

The card is blank (just white card) on the reverse, and the front I have pictured below:

The only way to rearrange is via a telephone call? In this day and age, how can that be the case?

There is no website and I can't find any information on this company, or any other searches I make on the number or addresses listed. Also the address '[email protected]' can't be real, can it?

If it's a scam I'll get Russell to print out a few warming slips to quickly pop into the neighbours' boxes.

Just remembered that my elderly neighbour does not lock his mail box so just went and had a look in there and found this:

Definitely a scam.

I'm going to take Darwin along to the neighbours to warn as many as I can.

http://easykey.uk/hoaxes-and-bogus-warn ... ax-warning (chain letter warning of it which itself is 'false') - its just a way to get you to ring the numbers which are premium rate.

Yep, that's most likely a scam.

Saxon Park Industrial Estate doesn't appear to have a Unit 119, or indeed anything above Unit 9
No trace of a web presence for Worldservice Express, or that email address
No details on the card at all

That's not a warning about a mail scam, that's a warning about a hoax email about a mail scam :D

EDIT - oh, you've updated it.

Cheers guys. I have warned a few neighbours but most are out. I have taken them out of the open boxes in our unit, and will get Russell to post a slip to the other flats.

Thank you for helping me check, folks xxx

I remembered that we had a printer (yay) and so have posted little slips to warn people through the doors of all four blocks of flats. There's a lot of elderly folk that I've here (like me!) so I assume that's why here was targeted.

Considering the name of your child I think you should have allowed this social Darwinism to take its natural course ;)

Have you reported them to the police? The people handing out the cards, not the neighbour.

I have contacted the police via on on their Facebook page in case they want to put up a post to warn people and the auto-reply says it will be looked at within the day. There is an email address to report crimes to, but I don't actually know if it constitutes a crime...

I would have thought it did as it's attempting to falsely get money from people. Attempted extortion maybe? I'm no expert but personally, I would call 101 and speak to them.

I'll send it to the 'report a crime' email. I've been a lot better on the phone since taking a job where I'm always on the phone, but I'm out of practice.

I tried ordering a new Boirs Advantage card over the phone today and managed to get myself in such a muddle I decided it was better to just get a new account,

I love going to Boirs.

I'm guessing.... Boots?

Yes, Boris advantage card. And they have £7.41 of points I can't even spend online as they now say that my card number isn't recognised...

Oyster cards are excellent. Or they were: haven't used one for a couple of years now.

Boots Advantage card... The pointsiest of all the loyalty cards.

I just use a contactless bank card now. Far less hassle than (not) remembering to add credit to an Oyster in advance.

Thanks for posting this Mimi. Mrs JC and I showed it to my mother the last time we were over there because there's a lot of triers in her area. People looking for gold watches etc trying to rip off the elderly. So I always clue mum up about any scams.
