Saw Civil War last night. I think I need to stop bothering with these films, they just don't move me at all. The acrimony between them seemed about as bitter as if one of them had failed to reply to a text message and the ensuing war was just some meaningless noise where nothing actually happened apart from his mate hurt his legs. A few good bits in amongst it all but mostly just the same old shite over and over again.

I found myself having to go online and look things up last time I watch one, think it was the last Avengers film.

Find the Captain America films to be the best once to watch as you just get sick of all the big CGI scenes in the others.

Still you can't knock the people in charge at Disney, they have big money films in the pipeline for years mow with Starwars and Marvel

Found a picture of the timelines for Marvell still plenty to come!

That's missing the recently announced series for The Punisher.

Edit: there's also rumblings that Sony might have got the rights to make a Spider-Man video game, presumably as part of their deal with Disney for the movies. A motion capture artist recently listed "Spider-Man PlayStation game" on his linked in, and not long before took a photo at a Sony motion capture studio on his Instagram. It's also known that Sucker Punch are not currently working of a new Infampus.

Could just be a standalone Spider-Man game, could be tied to the comics, could just be a standard movie tie in, or it could be the first MCU game that isn't just a straight up adaptation of one of the movies done on the cheap.

I know that a while ago marvel said they wanted to get good games made rather than just the licenced tat of the other MCU adaptations, having said that they were disappointed with the outcome of their previous games.

Yeah, I think that's probably what I'm feeling. Nothing in the Marvel films really "wows" me any more.

Guardians of the Galaxy was the last one where I came out of the cinema with a huge grin on my face but I've enjoyed all of them since then.
They are still a very agreeable way to pass a couple of hours.

I'm feeling fatigue with them. They are kind of ok but the weight of all the previous movies and the movies to come is getting a bit much. Plus they are starting to feel a bit samey. Works much better in tv series form this sort of thing if you ask me. Smaller chunks please rather than 2h30 each time.

Ha I didn't remember him dying at all. Was Civil War the first time Gwyneth Paltrow has been curiously absent? Was that not the case in Age of Ultron too?

Did you watch Ultron?

Aye, I just completely forgot that scene.

Edit: The scene where Quicksilver died.

Regarding Paltrow, I think it's just that a lot of these movies are blurring together. Iron Man is in how many of them?

Yes, it is. Just about. You see clips from it playing on a monitor in (IIRC) The Avengers when they are planning on talking to Banner.

It is independent of X-Men because the X-Men films are made by Fox. See also Spider-Man and Fantastic Four.

Looking it up, they also have the same dude (William Hurt) playing "Thunderbolt Ross" (who in the comics is eventually Red Hulk). He's in The Incredible Hulk as General Ross and Civil War as Secretary of State Ross.

It's also in the "Marvel Phase One" DVD/Blu Ray box set.

I'd also say by virtue of having RDJ's Tony Stark in it, it's straight up part of the MCU.

It's odd because it's also sort of implied to be a direct sequel to Ang Lee's "The Hulk", but only slightly so. There's a few nods to the prior film, and chronologically it would make sense to fit in there.

Obviously they switched actors for The Hulk, but there is more than a few nods to The Incredible Hulk in the other MCU movies. And again, where the character is when he is reintroduced in Avengers Assemble is in line with where he might have been following on from The Incredible Hulk.

It does kind of stick out compared to the others though.

We took the Grimlet to see Cap3 (against Mrs Grim...'s wishes, I should add). When asked what his favourite bit was, he said "the bit with Spider-man".
"Which bit?"
Well, apparently, this bit:

Nah. She was more worried about the violence (we watched Cap2 on Saturday in preparation and a rather surprising number of people get shot in the face), but Cap3 wasn't too bad.

"You have the right to remain silent!"

Something else I noticed - in the Iron Man films Stark always mistook Stan Lee for someone else - in this film Stan got his name wrong. Also Dean Pelton from Community was Dean of MIT.

Martin Freeman's minor role was pretty weird but I looked up his character and I guess he is going to be in the upcoming Black Panther movie.

I've just bought the entire phase 2 of Blu-rays from Amazon for £48. They're doing a 2 for £16 offer at the moment.

I was waiting for a box set like they did with the first phase, but it never arrived. The expensive limited editions notwithstanding.

I laughed at the Dean thing.

Spider-Man was great. The line you quoted made me laugh, as did almost everything he said and did. The fight with Giant Man was brilliant, as was the earlier bit, with, "Sorry. I thought it was a water truck", which made me laugh for a solid ten seconds.

I liked that Spidey was nerding out for most of the fight. "Are those wings carbon fiber?"

Oh Christ, and "That thing does not obey the laws of physics at all!"

But "You have the right to remain silent!" was the best one.

I loved the Spider-Man dialogue, but he did look very much like CGI, more than anything else in these movies.

I also wasn't convinced by him as Peter Parker, but he felt kind of shoehorned in and not given much screentime, so I'll reserve judgement for his standalone movie.

I thought he was really, really good. And the CGI didn't bother me really. Iron Man and War Machine looked just as much CGI to me.

All superb, as was the conscience one. Ant Man fit into the film surprisingly well.

Also funny, Falcon's "Bird suit?", and the look he and Bucky gave Cap post-kiss.

Isn't the magic shield physics waved away in the comics "because vibranium"?

In some ways that's true but it was also quite refreshing to have a character's entire introduction blown through in five minutes rather than the usual lengthy origins story. They managed to give you most everything you needed to know in situ and while it was slightly clunky I think it generally worked.

Pretty much, though from a quick scan of the relevant Wiki page it seems that it can claim to be a completely unique mixture of vibranium, adamantium and Uru because comics.

Yeah I don't really think going over the entire origin is required again, although a succinct montage at the start of the movie would be a smart move at least, but I just want to see what they are doing differently with this iteration of the character, and give him a bit of room to breathe. It's not really about needing to retread old ground, but we need a little more of an introduction to this iteration of Spider-Man. The story of his first big confrontation with a super-villain has just as much scope for this as an origin story. I guess I want to see him learning the ropes at least, which was obviously something that they were aiming for in Civil War.

I certainly wouldn't say it was much worse than "slightly clunky", perhaps the Peter Parker dialogue was showed up a little by how well they did the Spider-Man dialogue.

One of the biggest contrasts for me in BvS vs Civil War was the way they dealt with the origin stories of Batman and Spider-Man. I was close to actually screaming at the screen in BvS as we saw it yet again, in not even vaguely actually dramatic slow motion.

Plus stuff in Marvel is allowed to happen during hours of daylight.

After seeing someone on the SA forums refer to BvS as "Beavis", I cannot refer to it as anything else now.

Also, in Civil War, do they state that Black Panther's suit is made out of vibranium at any point? Seems a bit odd that people (Cap and Stark especially) fight him knowing full well that his suit can absorb their blows.

Very briefly, I think. Maybe when his claws scratch Cap's shield IIRC.

Yeah - I'm fairly sure Iron Man says "Vibranium suit?"

Oh fuck no. The last think I would ever need to see is another superhero learning the fucking ropes. Christ. They all fell in a cave, with like bats or spiders or whatever. Cool. And they spend some time not being awesome at stuff. Okay, whatever, dull, move on.

I'm pretty sure the new spider-man is going to be an oranges one. In Civil War when Iron Man asks him where he got his powers, he replies it's a long story or something along those lines. So I'm pretty sure they don't want to give plot lines away, so maybe it might be different from being bit by a spider again.

Maybe this time he bit the spider.

They established that he has mechanical web shooters of his own design, right?

I guess they could be doing something like the thing from Ultimate Spider-Man (that I only know from the cartoon) where he is being trained by Nick Fury and Shield to step up from dealing with petty crime and burglaries to taking on New York's scariest super villains. But maybe with Tony Stark and Stark Enterprises instead.

Yes, but that was also true in the last two Sony movies (the Garfield ones.)

Every time i tried to watch a Superhero hero movie i felt like if i was listening to a 30 minute grindcore song. They are just way too fatiguing. Wake me up when they make such noisy and over-edited films which last only 90 minutes. It's strange because it seems the whole universe likes them though.

The only one I thoroughly liked was kick-ass.

I have no idea what this means.

Also, the chance of Spiderman not getting his powers from a spider seems pretty slim.

I have no idea what this means.

ETA: an "origins Spiderman" isn't a term I'm familiar with or that makes any sense (to me) in context.

Really? You've never heard of an 'origins' superhero film to mean one telling how that person came to be a superhero?

I'd taken it to be a description of the character rather than some future film i.e. I've drunkenly taken that too literally by far. My apologies.
