I read a thing about Mercenaries 2 the other day. Man, I loved that game. Big sprawling open world full of tons of shit to blow up, destructible scenery, hugh amounts of choice of vehicles, airstrikes, and weapons, and some really fun missions.

GTA 5 Online is also tremendous amounts of fun.

Which got me to thinking how much fun a Mercenaries game built like GTA5:O would be. The same approach, with a semi-persistant game world, but in a warzone. Instead of a garage full of cars I've got a motor pool of tanks and armed jeeps and shit. The same faction reputation and missions system as Mercs, but able to be done in instanced worlds like GTA, with all your mates along for the ride. A fortified compound instead of a house, that you can upgrade with defences, and troops, and stuff.

It'd be proper brilliant, I tells ya.

Anyway, what game would you want people to make, if you could? A Call of Duty using the Super Mario Galaxy Engine? Something completely new and different that only you've thought of?

Tells me, yes.

A dating sim featuring your mum.

Probably the easiest game of all time.

A Sonic the Hedgehog game made after 1993 which isn't forgetably mediocre at best, or mind-bendingly terrible at worst. (Probably too implausible a possibility, I admit.)

Obviously it would need better data than the current generation of Earth, but I can't see the game itself being too much trouble

As a wee nipper I had the idea for football-resource-management-shooter. It used the engine of Manchester United Europe* for playing yer football matches. But separate to that you amassed crews of football hooligans, tooling them and buying better weapons to take your team to away days. Then the off-pitch action would play out a little like Cannon Fodder.

*Of all the things wrong with this idea, this is perhaps the most critical.

A Fallout game based in London would be my top pick tbh.

Shadow of the Collosus 2. More SOTC.

The Last Ninja for the next gen which plays a bit like Ninja Gaiden (the original Xbox one) but has the beautiful and energising music like The Last Ninja and The Last Ninja 2.

Killer7 2. No one can imagine this because you there's not enough zany in the world. Maybe something about a woman's head in a washing machine telling you about how she murdered someone. Fuck, that was already in it. Shit.

Manhunt 2. Just like the original but even more oppressive atmosphere please.

Conflict: Desert Storm 3. I reckon this could work too; 4 player co-op or single player where you can have the original split screen set up, vehicles, slow steady paced military shooting action, better AI, maybe a bit like Conflict: Global whatevers to mix up the settings, and super hard. Yeah, I'd like that.

Oh, and The Last Guardian. Yeah, right.

One of those baffling things. The last conflict game looked unexpectedly amazing when I saw it.
And then it came out, and it really didn't. I wonder what happened.

You mean the two-player one for Xbox 360 (I think) and turned it into a FPS? It was utter shit and got absolutely panned by the press.

I blame CoD and whoever in management made them jump on the FPS bandwagon.

Arr. I interviewed for a job there* while they were making it (before it was a conflict game) and got to see parts of it being made. I didn't expect terribly much as the previous games had looked rather budgetish. What I saw looked impressive though. And then it came out and everything seemed to have gone wrong.

Would've been early 2007, so before CoD became some kind of all consuming monster.

* - And it was quite possibly the worst job interview I had. Complete mind blank. And I'm crap at job interviews at the best of times.

Wasn't that how Hooligans played?

I want a cross between a card-game based RPG and a first person shooter, so you're always picking up new weird skills and swapping them out and using things once and picking the things you'd like to use later.

And I'd like a HD Parasite Eve.

Right? I think Sat might be the first person to get the game he wants, although I don't think it was very good (I never played it, but I remember it not reviewing very well).

I am currently playing Manhunt! It's getting a bit long-ish and samey-ish, and I don't think I'm even half way through it yet.

I love that long campaign and I actually thought the pacing was spot on. You go through lots of levels seriously underpowered against overwhelming odds, then the baddies start packing guns and it gets worse; so bad does it get that it's almost demoralising but just at that point you come across your first handgun and fight back. The fight back is so extremely slight though that you're still beat down time and time again, but then something happens and suddenly you're packing heat every where you go and after such a huge grind you'll start to feel empowered. Then come the Feds and you're suddenly a wee urchin again. Then other stuff as it heads to a conclusion. I think Rockstar did a fabulous job with the highs notes and the downtime.

Not to mention the atmosphere, the OTT violence, the director and even the story for what it is. Damn great game that. A true classic.

MaliA's Walk of Fame: it's a first person game. You can only move forward. Click left mouse to high five people who say cool stuff to you on your right and right click to high five people who say cool stuff to you on your left. Noone says uncool stuff.Cool music plays. The game never ends. Be cool. Be MaliCool.

The first lot of DLC is new Character arc: "pyM". PyM stands in a bay window of a third floor flat.the window looks down on the street. PyM can hear music in the distance. PyM can watch NPC Mali walk down the street high fiving people. PyM watches until NPC Mali reaches the vanishing point. The music fades. PyM can press left mouse button to sigh or right mouse button to see if his friends called him. NPC Mali is cooler than Pym. NPC Mali is cool. NPC Mali is NPCMaliCool.

I've thought about this all day and the best I can do is a 16bit platformer featuring characters from the old cartoon, Galaxy High.
