When you're on holiday and only have a Wii and a load of old GameCube games…

Tsh, double dash is only complete once you've unlocked the (completely shit and not worth unlocking) gold car.

34. Kintsukuroi: a puzzle game of sorts for Android that has you rotating a broken object and it's pieces in order to put it back together again. A nice idea but there are only 20 levels and none of them provide much of a challenge despite the fact that sometimes pieces just won't seem to 'click' into place until you've got some of the surrounding pieces done and the game only lets you pick from three of the available pieces at a time.

To sum up: with my CFS kicking my ass somewhat at the moment I wanted something easy but engaging to play through so picked this up after playing it for the same reason when I was really pretty sick a few years back. It is very easy but it's good fun, varied and well put together. Listening to Captain Haddock insult people never really gets old either. Perfect stuff if anyone's looking to introduce a kid to modern gaming without overwhelming them, though the sword-fighting stuff could be frustrating as it's not explained very well. It's also the first game I've pirated in about ten years because it's not available on Steam and I was hardly going to wait for a physical disc to be delivered like some kind of caveman. Bashi-bazouk/10.

It's a brilliant version of the arcade game Double Dragon, but on the GBA. It's got new enemies, new moves and new levels. I enjoyed every second!

Is it as good as Double Dragon Neon, though? I bet it's not.

Actually, in my opinion it's better. I didn't enjoy Neon too much to be honest.

Me neither. I really tried to like it, but it just bored me. I don't know much about Double Dragon in general, though, all the version I've tried (apart from Neon) were horrible 8 bit conversions.

You should try the advance version. It is good, but if you want to try something different... find out Battletoads and Double Dragon. I think the SNES version would be best but it's great on the Gameboy.

37. Lost Journey: a very nice puzzle platformer for Android who's central conceit sees you collecting stuff by rotating each level through 180 degrees, which also has the effect of flipping you 'inside' the walls. Each of the four level sets adds another ability to your core set and bases it's puzzles around that combination which helps you keep things interesting. Pretty damn good stuff.

Oh I finished some games...

1) Just Cause 3

Excellent, more of the same but with added wingsuit (later upgraded to rocket wingsuit, weeeeeeeeeeee). The map seemed smaller than 2 but that just have been that the wingsuit allows you to travel faster.

2) Destiny: The Taken King

I have finished all the missions and hit the level cap so I'm claiming this one (it seems to be all grind to max your kit out in the end game). I only picked this up because it was cheap in the Supermarket but I have to say I really enjoy it, the shooty pew, pew stuff is really well handled and is something you can dive into for half and hour and have fun with and then leave it alone (However I can see how the pricing of the DLC, the length of the original campaign and the lack of in game player comms and matchmaking pissed people off who originally bought it).

I bought Destiny when it first came out but I was looking to get it again on the Xbox One, but I haven't got a clue which version is the best version to get... so yeah, I agree with that.

  15. Dead Rising 2 (Xbox 360)

Very similar to the first game, but slightly funnier, slightly prettier, and just slightly betterer in all ways.

Got through all the case files and got Ending A, so I will count it now, even though there is a bonus overtime section and probably a better ending, which I will be attempting before taking on Case West.

I never played DR2. In a lot of ways Dead Rising was the perfect game for me, so I didn't want to ruin that experience.

Very immersive game. (Because of all the water, ha haha! geddit?! Oh screw you)

Sure, it's a bit rough around the edges and the cover mechanics can be hit and miss, but I was actually quite enjoying this and thought the reviews were rather harsh. Great claustrophobic, messy, noisy setting, and water dynamics that remain original and interesting. You really need to look around sometimes to figure out how to continue, but I like that.

Then I got to the end. Or "end". Because it just stops in the middle of a cutscene with the story nowhere near finished, and that's it. Apparently this was supposed to be part one in a trilogy, but that didn't work out, now did it.

Actually, I am getting a sneaking suspicion that I've played it through before and just forgot about it for the very reason that it doesn't have a proper end. Oh well, it's definitely crossed off the list now.

Edit: Just realized I got an achievement for completing the game, so it must have been the first time, although I still think I must have played it almost the entire way through previously.

Much, much better than the first one. That one, in fact, had me wonder if the original game had been crap and I'd just forgotten, but this one was much more entertaining. Still a crap story, though.

AKA Fallout 4. It was fairly enjoyable, but then it went wrong at the end and I had to kill the team I was working for to carry on. I liked Piper, though.

AKA Doom. Oh holy shitsnacks that was good. Once I shook off the desire to find all the stuff (I was jumping around like a tool for a good five minutes after my "secret detecting skill" buzzed at me, in some round room with robot arms whizzing around the walls, and I realised that I was just twatting around when I could have been punching monsters) it was a brutal slog through gallons of blood and innards. Loved it. And the end credits were awesome, too!

Combines survival horror mechanics with Tomb Raider style climbing segments in a post-apocalyptic, dust engulfed urban environment. My kind of thing, really. The graphics are decent enough, mostly, but there is quite a bit of the same objects appearing everywhere going on. The sound is really good, and the overall atmosphere is great. The voice acting is atrocious at times, though.

Its original idea, because it actually has one, is how each encounter is a quick think affair, where you must decide how and in which order to tackle the bad guys with extremely limited resources - most of the time you'll carry something like 1 arrow and 2 bullets, apart from your melee weapon, although I did have plenty of health and stamina items. Even more interestingly, intimidation can also be employed - just by threatening an enemy, you can defeat him in certain circumstances.

I really enjoyed it, but then, it is the sort of thing I would really enjoy.

  20. Life Is Strange Episode 1 (PC)

I have decided to enter each episode separately here, because, since you get a credit roll after each, it totally counts.

So I actually played this first episode a while ago. I bought it on the cheap (or maybe it was free? I don't remember) to check it out, and I am glad I did. Game play wise it is a simple exploration and time puzzle game, but it is really more of a piece of interactive entertainment than anything else.

The story gets off to a slightly slow start and seems like a mere high school drama at first, but with the added twist that the protagonist has the ability to rewind time and so modify the flow of events with the benefit of hindsight. Ah, if only we could all do that, what a confusing world it would be!

It gets progressively darker as it unfolds, though, and by the end of the episode I found myself wanting to see where it would go next.

The writing is not without flaws, but there is just something about video games, putting you in the middle of the story as they do, that lets me forgive these sort of things more readily. And it does feature a lovely, slightly cartoony world of dark Americana that really draws me in, as well as characters that are revealed to have more depth than the clichés they seem like at first.

It's also the kind of work that is so stylishly self assured that it makes me enjoy things I normally wouldn't, like a particular kind of music or whatnot. It is really well made overall, and I am enjoying every minute so far.

Life is Strange is amazing. It completely spoiled Telltale games for me.

This seemed over somewhat quicker than the first episode, but it may just have been because it was even better. I finished it in one sitting in any case.

Without giving anything away, the protagonist of the story has been reunited with an old friend, and in this episode that character sees some very interesting development into something perhaps slightly unhinged, we don't really know yet. The episode openly pays homage to Twin Peaks, which was clearly one major source of inspiration (the non-trippy bits of Twin Peaks). It is not even remotely ripping it off, though, and continues in its own style.

A particular heartbreaking event actually had me gasp out load. Not only that, but it turns out I could have prevented it (2/3rds of players did, according to the post-episode stats), which made me feel like a complete failure. You don't have the time rewind ability available at that point, though, so you only get one shot at it. Great game so far.

I have Life is Strange in my "to play" pile (It's actually a number of shelves in a big room). I think I'm going to have a go now you've reminded me.

Things were moving along nicely, not much in the form of actual gameplay, but some intriguing decisions to be made. It was interesting to see how deeply the fallout of that event that I mentioned in the previous entry was integrated into the script. I am definitely going to play this game again to see how different the story will be with different decisions. Speaking of which, I made one in this episode that I may come to regret deeply, but by the time I realized how bad it might be, it was too late to undo.

THEN AT THE END THE STORY VEERED RATHER UNEXPECTEDLY OFF INTO THE TWILIGHT ZONE WTF

The plot thickens! There was a crying scene that just didn't really hit the right notes, and the Shocking TwistTM was a little too much for me, but no worse than your average Hollywood thriller. Apart from that it was all excellent, and a long episode - I got 5 hours out of it, but I like to take my time and take it all in. A second play-through could probably be done in a fraction of that.

There are two seemingly separate things going on in the story, one mysterious and trippy, and the other more of a thriller. It will be interesting to see if they manage to tie it all together in the last episode. I am curbing my enthusiasm to be honest, but again, this is no different from your average film, and I am rather picky with these things.

It says a lot when we can actually compare a video game to films in terms of story telling quality. I can't really stress enough how well made this game is overall.

And Episode 1 is now permanently free! So check it out, fools.

1) "I AM THE GODDAMN BATMAN!"
2) WHIZZARD PEW PEW
3) "How do I make them have sex?"
4) 2D Dark Souls
5) "Christ, not fucking Bronan again."
6) Ball-shooting simulator
7) Fallout 4 Alpha
eight) The Last of Us (remastered)
9) Monster punching simulator
10) whimpering noises

AKA PT. Finished it again with a friend, after not loading it since Cottage 2015. It's still fucking horrible, even though I didn't touch the controller and had an idea of what was coming up. A few new things happened (we saw Lisa outside a window, for example), which were fucking traumatising. But we completed it! Fuck knows how.

AKA Resident Evil: Beginning Hour. There's not much to it and it's not overly scary (apart from the dummies upstairs. Fuck that shit), but I got three endings and I believe that's the most you can get right now. It clearly tried to be PT but they released it without enough "stuff" in, with the promise that more stuff would come later, and I think that hurt it.

AKA Uncharted 4. God's nips, this was good. Epic set-piece followed by epic set-piece followed by really bad winch usage followed by epic set-piece. I'm not sure I have a bad word to say about it, to be honest.

...
Why didn't I put a silly name for The Last of Us?

Um, what two have you got?

Actually, I'll put them in the proper thread.

Pull the handle before watching the video, and see if you can find anything on the other side.

Look to your ten o'clock once you go through the door.

It will. It's pretty hard to see, though.

Excellent Carma fun...the game had a lot of shade thrown at it but I enjoyed (and am still enjoying) the hell out of it. Not really that much different from Reincarnation on the PC but I can play it laying on the couch on my big telly.
