Not all that surprising surely given that she was also in the last two?

Really? Even the time traveling one? Damn, I must have missed that somehow.

Turns out she's only the fucking blue one. No wonder I didn't sodding recognise her seeing as she's dressed as a bloody blackcurrent Jubbly.

Except that she's appears without the body makeup in multiple scenes across all the films. You've just been a bit dim here I'm afraid dude.

Funny how this thread died a death so quickly an' all. Turns out Star Wars: TFA was just a disposable film after all.

I think it died quickly because everyone had seen it within a week of its release :)

You implied you'd seen all of them, but that's just the first clip I found on YouTube from any of the films. There's a few scenes from Future Past as well but I'm not going to spend time digging them up to prove it to you.

Pretty sure she spends most of Future Past as herself too.

I've seen Force Awakens three times in the cinema. It's really good, but has reached saturation point. Most films don't get a thread anyway.

Sounds like loser talk to me.

Mind you, I found the bit when she's dressed sexily at the bar and talks to the Korean general. Damn, she hot. Maybe it was the blonde hair.

Well I didn't but its on the torrent sites now since the DVD / Blu rays are out in about a weeks time.

So yeah its was okay - it had some good moments ("take that one" , "no its garbage") and some dumb deux ex stuff but overall it was fine as a new Star Wars

Yes.. I can't think of any one that would want to wait an additional 3 months.

It's a fine film. Not ground shaking or game changing, but very enjoyable. I feel that episode 8 will be better, without the huge weight of expectation

I have now seen this.

It was OK but pretty shallow.

Reminded me a little of nuTrek.

Never found time to see this at the cinema, despite my shameful pirate tendencies I did want to and have pre ordered this on Blu Ray.

So I was very happy to find an Easter surprise of a 35GB rip of this 4 weeks early :D

Not that impressed with the film though, the plot just nicks so much from the first 3 films (I mean first released not episode numbers)

They have a desert planet, death\ planet star, and robot that everyone is after with a secret.

Characters are a bit different but don't do enough to make this a good film.

Its so obvious that Rey is Luke's daughter, as she kicked Kylo Ren's arse in a fight, having picked up a light saber for the 2nd time in her life.

I think for Episode 8 we will have "father revelations" and also have Kylo Ren hunting all over the galaxy for Rey, only to find her on a Frozen planet :)

Also how dull is Leia? She has had 30 years to do some Jedi stuff and despite her genes being responsible for Kylo Ren, (who I thought was pretty kick arse until his shit fight with Rey at the end) she is still acting like she knows nothing.

Still its Star Wars and I will watch it some more and like it more each time.

Going to watch this again tonight. I saw it at the pictures but it was a late showing and I think I had a few long blinks towards the end. I keep doing that, falling asleep during the climactic action sequences.

To reiterate a point about Kylo Ren. He'd just taken the Star Wars equivalent of a rocket launcher to the gut, and was bleeding out. Not to mention he was going through a somewhat emotional time. I think it's fair that he didn't overwhelm a seasoned fighter who is apparently ultra strong in the force. And he was kicking her ass until she did some kind of weird force thing (was Luke talking to her, I wonder?).

Finally saw this today. Really enjoyed it and tbh I think that's the first time my sound system has been given a proper workout.

Good stuff :)

Heh. Some of those blinks must have been longer than I thought, I think I just saw snippets of the last 45 minutes first time round. Having now seen the whole film I thought it was great. It had to be played pretty safe in many ways but despite that it was still more watchable than the usual tedious crap that passes for blockbusters these days.

So I watched this again over the weekend and I picked up on a few things that I'd like to share...

The First Order. On first viewing, The First Order seemed like a straight replacement for The Empire; a necessary plot device. But a second viewing left me with a different impression. I got the feeling that the Order is a relatively small group of devotees, clinging to the trappings of the Old Empire. We know that the bulk of their fighting force has been raised from birth as soldiers and therefore brainwashed to the cause. We know that the leaders are seemingly young men (putting Snoke aside) with an abundance of enthusiasm. Witness the borderline hysterical speech of the Ginger General before the weapon is fired. He goes well beyond Nuremberg and right into extremist pretty quickly. I honestly feel that the First Order is an allegorical stand in for ISIS.

And related to all that...

LaThe Resistance. Who are they, exactly? Again, they are thematically the Rebellion from the original trilogy, but there's no need for them in this modern universe as the Republic is re-established and ruling the galaxy again. I feel that they have been badly named and are in fact a Government Agency/Task Force/Cool Kid Club that has been tasked with 2 things: Keep a lid on the First Order and restore The Jedi.

In this first task, they seem to be doing okay (until THE WEAPON) as the First Order seems to be little threat to the restored Republic. They seem to have bought a load of old Empire gear at a Closing Down Sale on Coruscant and made a few nice ships, but The Republic doesn't seem to bothered, do they? Probably should have known about Starkiller Base a few weeks sooner though, eh?

Their second task, Restore the Jedi, was probably going really well under Luke until Ren went all Anakin and wiped out the students. I'd like to have more backstory about this element of the tale, if I'm honest. How did Snoke get to Kylo? Why did Luke just do one? Why isn't Leia a jedi?

One final point.... How did they charge THE WEAPON for the first shot? They drained their own sun to fire the second shot, so where did the first shot come from? Can the base move, like a Death Star? I just assumed it was a modified planet.

Anyway, just a few observations.

My assumption is that the base moves, a la Death Star.

I agree though, it would've been nice to have more back story about Snoke and Ren. Another assumption is that we'll find out much more in the next two episodes about the backstory there.

When we watched a New Hope, not everything was explained. Took a further 2 films to answer everything.

I think this is what is being done this time round.

This doesn't explain why they only have about six X-Wings to their name.

Some of the Expanded Universe stuff that was floating around when the film came out said that it was Leia's little pet project because she doesn't trust the remains of the Empire to honour the surrender treaty they signed after Jedi; whereas the mainstream Galactic Council doesn't see a threat. That's why they're so ragtag.

To my mind, it's (a) a weakly written point to justify putting TFA into this slightly weird retread situation it's in with respect to ANH and (b) should have been explained in the film. These aren't glaring flaws, but they are flaws, IMO.
