Amazed we don't have one of these threads already.

Anyway, saw this image in this BBC News story, and thought it too good not to share.

Jamie Oliver calls for a return to a wartime diet:

Heh, those pictures are ace!

I used to have a lovely cat and a big tank of fish when I was a young girl. Mel (the cat) would ignore the fish completely. I later got my very own fish bowl with two goldfish - one day one of the fish made a big for freedom whilst I was watching TV - it jumped up and landed on the carpet. i didn't see, but Mel started to mew, loudly. i went over and she was standing above the fish - I managed to get the fish back into the bowl quite quickly and it was fine :D

My internet will probably be cut off at midnight, or tomorrow morning.

Having all your flatmates move out with only 10 hours' notice (overnight) would be really great if I had the money to fill the place with booze and whores. And didn't have a deadline tomorrow. Bastards.

I have three and a half biscuits to last until 1pm tomorrow. And some dry pasta, although they took the saucepans as well so there's not a lot I can do with it.

Woe.

What's happened? Do you know why they have all moved out? Did they have it planned for a long time and you have only just found out or was it a snap decision? Were you about to start charging them £2 a month to talk to you? And why's your internet being cut off? Should we send you more biscuits? I have one around here somewhere...

Ages ago, I gave a link to the sublime Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros (I'm not sure how much airplay it got on the radio, given its... bizarre nature)

Some KIND SOUL off the official Sigur Ros website has made an instrumental version, thus saving us all from those godawful nasal Icelandic vocals*.

http://www.freewebs.com/briancampy/HoppInstBriC.mp3

Download, share and enjoy.

*I'm not saying that all Icelandic people are godawful or nasal. But honestly, why why why spoil such a melody with such singing? It's like making the world's best ever cheesecake, and then forcing people to eat it with forks made of dog shit.

Our contract here (where I'm frankly quite happy - the estate agents are wankers and haven't fixed half a dozen very minor problems, and there are a few very minor problems with the house that won't affect us anyway since we don't own it) runs out in September. We've found another house, and the landlord, a friend, kindly offered to let us move in from June and not pay rent until September since we can't get out of this contract and his place will be empty anyway. He then said we can move in whenever, though he won't care when.

My flatmates, having absolutely no patience whatsoever (hence the ten-takeaways-in-ten-days-even-though-I-do-all-the-washing-up thing that happens twice a month), deciced to move instantly. It's always a bloody snap decision. It usually doesn't affect me directly so I just quietly moan to my other friends and let them get on with it, but this is a little different. They're really quite lucky I'm not vindictive enough to just walk out and leave them with a flat they can't afford without me and a baby on the way.

Fortunately BT are incompetent and haven't cut here off yet. I've got a bit of work done and might be able to not starve (seriously, I've survived for three days on pasta and some tinned tuna that I found. If they hadn't forgotten to take the tin opener I'd feel pretty sick right about now), but without internet access for the next fortnight I'll not be able to work much, so won't get much money, so will be living off porridge and potato cakes for another couple of months before I can even think of going out for a drink for the first time in two months. Although I don't actually know anyone here yet because on the three occasions where I've had spare money I've spent it all on visiting people in London and Canterbury.

And it's a year since I fell in love with my ex today. And some people who were going to visit me have decided to go to Barcelona instead, without remembering the time I quit my job so that I could go to Barcelona with them (and they then turned round and changed the date so we couldn't go after all) and considering that maybe this would be a bit of a double slap in the face.

Oh god, I need to sleep. Five more hours. I'm sorry everyone. Sorry.

Can't. Got a meeting. Then I've got to pack and move house, or I won't have any electricity to heat my pasta tonight.

You're right though, it'll feel a bit less hopeless after being unconscious for a day or two. Probably.

Well, I am so sorry to hear that - you seem to be having a tough time :( So, you are moving out - are you moving to the other flat? Sorry, but your flatmates and friends sound very selfish, and your friends do not sound very thoughtful, either.

I hope that you get all of your woes sorted out soon. I wish I had more practical advice to offer :(

In front of me, I have my list of things to do at work for the week.

What is left to do, today, takes about 5 minutes, tops to complete. I can sit at this computer until 4-55pm, and do it then, or jsut do it now, and leave early, seeing as I really should be more productive in the job hunting department than I have been of late. Boss is away today.

I think I'll jsut do it and head off.

It's got a full tank. No and yes.

I knew it had the worlds most useless alarm (In that it flashes its lights, but makes no sound), but that you couldn't start your car was unknown to me. and as the remote had stopped working, I couldn't turn off the entire alarm system. Fortunately, I remembered reading how to resync the remote, and so spent a little bit of time playing around with the car battery (now called sparky) until all was right.

Either the immobiliser reader going in the ignition or the bit in the key going dead are very common problems with VW Polos. Useless fact there for you.

That's arguably better than a noisy alarm - the immobiliser actually stops them taking the car.
