I actually don't remember. The setting was in the charm bar on win 8, so it may be in the fake control panel in devices.

Very true. Windows 7 calculator can work out the difference between two dates. Windows 10 calculator cannot.

I use this function quite a lot.

I could have used that chance to tell Microsoft that, but I didn't because I was in the middle of working out fare horizons and was in the middle of a sum. And it's the freaking calculator app.

I spend half my life trying to work out how to get things to work out the difference between two dates. It's a lot more difficult than you think.

Only if you view time as a linear construct. I used to think like you, but after listening to the concerns of those with malleable chronotypes I have come to see how such views, and society as a whole, affects them. We must work to end this narrow view and we could end it by half past yestermorrow.

Win 10 to start downloading as part of automatic updates.

Looks like it's time to move to manual checking for, downloading of and installing updates then, or just turn Windows Update off and move to third-party AV.

All six computers in the house are now fully up-to-date with Windows Update as it is at the moment, and have subsequently been dropped down to these settings.

Going forward I'll review updates as they appear following a manual check, and approve or deny them based on how I like (or not) the cut of their jib.

As new computers come into the house I'll purchase them with Windows 10 (or whatever it is at the time), but for now we'll just go into Windows 7 Extended Support mode until 2020 (when I'll review the situation), or machines actually die and need to be replaced, in which case Windows 10 will invade early.

The original story seems to have been updated with this mealy-mouthed nonsense:
Quote:
Update 2: with Microsoft having declined to give feedback on the data, the Voat thread’s results are being disputed with the argument that Microsoft is responsible for only a small portion of the data tracking that is claimed. In fact the original post has now been deleted but the thread continues with arguments back and forth over the data. Where there is agreement, however, is that Windows 10 does indeed submit hidden telemetry data to its servers without making it clear to users – just not how much.

So his entire citation for the SHOCK story is 'you should be worried because there exists an argument on an obscure website between a load of anonymous people'. If that was a cause for concern then none of us would ever get out of bed in the morning.

I've just been using the Windows calculator and I KNEW it was different to Grims... See? I don't have the option to work out the difference between two dates. It's just not there as far as I can see.

Good idea, that never occurred to me! :insincere:

Seriously though, this is what I see when I scroll down... The time calculator just converts minutes into hours etc.

UPGRADE NOW TO WINDOWS 10 PROFESSIONAL AND GET THE MEGA CALCULATOR.

That can't be a difference between Home and other versions, surely?

I'd check myself as I have Windows 7 Ultimate except of course I haven't 'upgraded' it and NEVER WILL.

I'm running Windows 10, build 10240.

I too have the function available and am on version 10.1601.49020.0 of the app running Windows 10 Home. Weird that some people have an older version. I did notice that it came up as a 'Trusted Windows store app' and I'm logged into my PC using my actual MS account. Is it possible that there's an older version of the app that comes packaged with the OS and the new version only gets rolled out from the app store if you're logged into your MS account? Just a thought...

How strange?

For what it's worth, my desktop has better calculator. Laptop doesn't.

Main difference is that the desktop had a fresh install, laptop is still on the upgrade from windows 8.1.

I can see that that could make a difference.
