My manager has a Sony handset and in the top left hand corner, in the menu bar, there is an icon which he does not recognise.
It looks like a little owl, or a monster's head, on a pole.
Does anyone have any idea what this icon could relate to?
I know a screenshot would help but I don't have one, sadly.

Is there anything in his notification pull-down? There should be if the icon is on the left. Long-press on the notification to get a menu with "app info" in it.

Apparently not.
I have attached a screenshot.
See top left corner.

That's the Lollipop debug icon. It's an Android on a stick.

Excellent! Thanks. What does a debug icon signify – is any action required?

The only time I get that is when I plug it into a computer; is he possibly charging it from a USB port when the icon appears? If so you can change that by going to Settings->Developer options and switching the 'USB debugging' option off.
