Pfft. I'm not rich. I had a baby.

I found that once the initial project setup costs were done, ongoing maintenance net of other efficiencies saved me money. Wife stopped drinking for maternity and barely restarted and the number of nights out fell, or were of lower intensity (and cost). Add in the benefits (before they were heartlessly ripped away from me) and we were definitely net up in cash flow terms.

Neal Stephenson's Seveneves is the most Neal Stephenson book that has ever been written, so I urge you to steer well clear. I loved it though.

Well food isn't an issue for a good few months.

Clothing is part of initial setup but we could have got away with never buying any, given gifts from friends and family for the first 12 months. We gave away three bin bags of stuff that had never ever been worn last week. Fucking buying winter clothes in advance of the hottest winter in history for a child that hit the top percentile of growth charts for three years.

The most expensive individual items of clothes were the Beex babygros. Worn once each.

Noted. Thanks.

Part of the problem is that unless I'm on holiday I mostly read before bed when I'm tired and only do 30-40 pages at a time.
Any books where that might not move the plot on at all, or leave me struggling to remember WTF is going on isn't ideal

Ooh imagine keeping a knob in the fridge. Can't decide if that sounds awesome or potentially dangerous.

(Obviously I mean a rubber one, not a man's willy.)

I don't think either 'awesome' or 'dangerous' could really be applied to a slightly chilled rubber penis.

The thing about Neal Stephenson is that, somehow, he thinks Snow Crash was ace because of all the Sumerian info dumping, rather than the awesome action scenes and compelling world building and plot.

I never heard about this Stephenson guy before, but i was curious and went to check on Goodreads. The synopsis of his books read like a parody:

"In reality, Hiro Protagonist delivers pizza for Uncle Enzo’s CosoNostra Pizza Inc., but in the Metaverse he’s a warrior prince. Plunging headlong into the enigma of a new computer virus that’s striking down hackers everywhere, he races along the neon-lit streets on a search-and-destroy mission for the shadowy virtual villain threatening to bring about infocalypse. Snow Crash is a mind-altering romp through a future America so bizarre, so outrageous…you’ll recognize it immediately."

Is this for real?

To be honest, if one was to shorten PKD's books in a sentence they would probably sound as stupid as this.

Snow Crash was 1992.

Bladerunner was 1982. Necromancer was 1984, Count Zero was 1986, Mona Lisa Overdrive was 1988. Hardwired was 1986. Islands In The Net was 1988. Mirrorshades was 1986. Et cetera.

Entering a 4 mile trail run, seemed a good idea at the time.

Snow Crash was also pretty rubbish, although I might have liked it more if I read it in 1992 instead of 2013.

That was hard. 3.8 miles of hills in 44:13' Mrskov did it in 37:55

I miss Trooper also - he was one of my topmost top people. Like in the mental list of top people yo know, he was one of the very top few. Anyway, if you still lurk Troops, big snuzzles.

I'm so incredibly bored today. I leave work the day after tomorrow and I am clearly just treading water, but my this water is boring. At least throw in a shark or some kind of wave machine or something.
