I think Game still sell PC games in store. A friend of mine wrote this yesterday..

Quote:
went in to a game after visiting my parents this afternoon on the off chance. Asked if they had any pip boy editions. Only one for the PC sorry sir. That'll do nicely. Shame I was so impatient and got a key from greenman games last night.

It's about £60-70 I believe. Or was historically - may have changed in recent years.

Sharpened tire iron to whack stuff with and a scoped rifle for those out of whacking range.

I love it so far. Don't understand armour though, and those ghouls be nippy.

I'm enjoying this more than I've enjoyed a game in years. I think it looks pretty good too, although it's certainly not the most amazing looking thing I've ever seen come out of my PS4. I don't care though because it's everything I wanted it to be i.e. FO3 again only just different enough to FO3 that I don't feel like I'm playing exactly the same game.

I agree with this. The new getting your health back system is good, too.

Radiation is much more of a pain in the arse this time round. Every time you take damage you know that, unless you use up a stimpack or purified water, you're inevitably going to be giving up a bit of your max health in order to heal as you'll be consuming something that adds rads. My next few points are going into Endurance so I can work up to stuff like Lead Belly, Rad Resistant, Ghoulish and Solar Powered.

Tip: if you use a cooking station to cook stuff, you (somehow) cook the radiation right out of it.

Good plan. I might consider that, too; as if I live longer I can hit more stuff

I have a GTX Titan in my PC, each time I start the game it says it can't work out what my card is then sets everything to low. I set it all to Ultra and the game plays with no issues

Even the NVidia Game optimiser tries to lower the settings

Only managed to get a couple of hours in on this so far, but I like it a lot. It's reassuringly familiar but there's still a fair amount of figuring out how things work. I like how they handle perks; it's good to see the direction you're going in from the start.

When I read that you could build settlements and protect them etc. I thought it would definitely be something I'd avoid, I was a bit worried it might be part of the necessary game-play, which momentarily put me off the idea of the game as whole, tbh. Since playing the game, I accidentally stumbled upon the workshop when I pressed the touch pad to see if it did anything. I pretty hastily exited as I did not want to get bogged down in it. And then I saved some people and ended up with a settlement sort of by accident. And then I wanted to make beds for them and give them food and shelter but had no clue what to do and I got a bit frustrated with it! So on reflection, this is probably an aspect of the game I will mess about with, which is a bonus.

Heh, potentially useful technique for dealing with enemies in power armour:

http://gfycat.com/DaringConstantArmedcrab

tv;dw: Sneak up behind them and pickpocket the Fusion Core from the armour which will then kick them out and expose their fleshy body to your weapons.

Yeah someone at work told me about that.

I really like having the pip boy app on my ipad next to me on the sofa, I still tend to do most stuff on the TV but being able to glance at the map while roaming around is actually really nice. Also choosing your outfits without having to keep opening and closing the pip boy to see if you look good or not.

I just want to go home and play this now >:|

Best game for me since FONV. I still find it a little sad that we were treated to such wonderful greatness, then nothing for five years. However, it's back !

Sadly I seem to have developed quite severe pain in my tailbone for spending too long sat in my office chair so today I may only get in an hour or so. I'm about 11 hours in now :)

I may order myself a nice long HDMI cable and hook the PC up into the TV.

Oh dear me, Combat Shotgun + Bloody Mess = much awesome. I love how they've kept all of the good bits of FO3 and FONV. Especially the companions ! I've got one from the BOS and he kicks so much ass. Good thing is they have also retained the "Get XP when a companion makes a kill" from FONV which I thought was a much better idea than the companion system in FO3. I took Fawkes with me and he was a killing machine but sadly I had to give him the sack because he was fucking up my XP badly. I would rather use my own ammo and make the kill than get nothing at all !

This game rules. Seriously, it's just wonderful. I'm on a quest for the BOS where I get sent out to find bits for them and it's gone on for a couple of hours now. The best part is it gets you to new locations and you have to explore, which I am enjoying immensely.

As for the graphics? yeah, the objects and so on leave a lot to be desired but just wait until you get a good look at the game from above. It's stunning in that regard. And it's absolutely enormous too. Makes Fallout 3 look positively tiny.

My faith in gaming has been thoroughly restored.

I seem to have spent a lot of time making beds and stuff rather than SMASH SMASH. Tire iron now moved away in favour of serrated switchblade. I thought I had upgraded the tire iron but must have been wrong as I am not level enough. Ditched the dog for the robot.

Looks like fun :)

I just bought this. They were giving them out at the announcement.

It cost me a tenner delivered. Stupid I know but I would kick myself if I didn't get one to add to my enormous collection :)

I also got this.

Will make for a good toilet book :)

Apparently you can tell Dogmeat to go looting in Vault 111 and he'll fetch you the cryo gun or whatever it is, even though it's behind a locked door that you can't get through at that point of the game.

I couldn't get Dogmeat down into the vault, though. He refused to appear.

I stopped using old Dogmeat because he was a bit shit. I met up with the BOS and now I have Danse with me and he's as hard as nails. Got a bloody big lazer rifle.

I had no trouble getting him into the vault, even though he wasn't on the central lift when it started going down - he must have figured his own secret way in, as he was waiting patiently for me on the other side of the lift gate while the lift descended :P

Serrated switchblade is awesome. I have been having super fun clearing thing of raiders. Swish swosh and "Neck-st" ha's ha Mali thump. This is better than the last one.

I'm having excellent fun with this! I'm now at level 14 and I'm playing something of a charismatic lass called Luce who does a lot of sneaking and shooting with pistols and rifles. I've had great fun naming my custom weapons too. My current best weapon is a quick-firing 10mm pistol that's quick on the draw, fast on the fire, low on the recoil and high on the damage. I call it the Gustav Holst, as Mars from the Planet's suite was playing when I went on my first rampage with it. Then there's the Shredder, which is a mildly upgraded tommy gun. (I know, I know, should have called it the Chopper.) The 'Go-Long Popper' is a medium damage quick firing pipe rifle with sniper scope. And my favourite, the heavily upgraded short-musket with three-crank capacitor, I call the 'Zen Rifle', as I need to be in a very zen frame of mind to use it effectively. I'm not a fan of automatics, so aside from the Shredder, I'm going for accuracy, fast magazine reloads and high damage.

I've started building some nifty little settlements, though I do need to know how to make my own concrete foundations, and I'm around Level 14.

Power armour? Pff. Power armour is for wusses and agrophobes.

Favourite moment so far? Hmm, I think it was just this bit when I was walking along some remote railroad tracks at night, and there a sudden flash and I saw far away on a hillside top a small mushroom cloud go up into the air, followed by a distant rumble. I'm not sure what happened, my theory is that someone or something tussled with a super-mutant with a mini-nuke, but it was deeply awesome.

Also, fuck play-dead feral ghouls.
