Seems I may have been worrying over nothing :)

It's going to be bloody fantastic, I don't see what a lot of people are worrying about after seeing someone else play it. You're not as immersed as when you're playing it.

It's gonna be a bit shinier than FO3 and NV, but it won't be the most glorious of graphics, but that doesn't matter. I can't wait until Monday night when I can stay up all night and play it.

Yeah you're right Nick :) (good to see you btw !).

I phoned Game today as they were supposed to charge me and invoice me yesterday but apparently there are so many pre orders that the computers have gone to crap and it could take three days just to charge people for the game :S

Nuts. I wouldn't want to be working in Game's shipping department right now I know that much.

I've pre-ordered a digital copy on PS4 as there's literally nowhere here to buy it within a decent range (both of the game shops in town have closed down), so hopefully it'll download on saturday or sunday and just let me play it at 12:01am on Tuesday morning!

It's probably gonna be the biggest release of the year, I can't even see BLOPS3 or Battlefront getting close to this.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that Mirror's Edge 2 was delayed due to FO4 tbh. Fallout 3 obliterated anything else and won GOTY last time, how do you compete with that? especially as a returning product with a queue millions long?

I'm not sure when mine will arrive. IIRC with New Vegas collector's ed it came the day before and you could pre load it? I really can't remember that was over five years ago.

Game said they are using a reliable courier, so with any luck I won't have to hide with my eyes closed for very long :D

Yeah they're doing preload on pc/xbox/ps4 so it'll hopefully download over the weekend. It's a big ass file 28gig I think, so it'll take a fair bit of time!

Hopefully it'll come no later than tuesday then for you! They know the amount of people that want it, so it should be fine! :)

Dear boy you have my condolences.

You're also a very lucky person. I would give anything to be able to travel back in time and witness it all over again afresh.

Quite simply FO3 was one of, or even the, best games ever made.

Later in the game (once you have increased your aiming and other weapon statistics) it can mimic a FPS. At the beginning though aiming without VATS is just ass.

Here is what I got from Game today for pre ordering the Pip Boy Edition.

And the back.

Inside.

And the disclaimers, which made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside because only Bethesda nail humour like this.

And off to the collection cabinet he goes :D

The Pipboy app is now live on Google Play. What's nice is they've put in a demo mode so you can see what kind of functionality is available even without linking it to a console so you can play around. As you'd expect it seems to be all the functions you'd get if you hit pause in the game so everything from mapping to perks to inventory management.

Fallout 3 was my first experience with any of the Bethedsa RPGs and I do remember really really not enjoying it at the start. I had no idea what I was doing and practically every combat encounter was a nightmare and I know if I was fucking up certain missions because I shouldn't really have been trying them yet or if I just sucked, which was really frustrating. Once you get levelled up a bit and things start to click it's so much more fun and worth persevering with for the payoff.

Hehe that pretty much describes it for me, nail on the head. It was only Malia that kept me playing.. I didn't listen properly nor did I read anything (I just skipped it all) and so I had absolutely no idea what the fuck V.A.T.S was (nor did I discover it until about 14 hours into the game) and was having a really hard time.

Like a twat I wandered off and ended up with Brian and the fire ants. Those ants must have killed me a hundred times and I was all ready to throw in the towel when I got advice from Mal and a couple of others who told me to slow down and RTFM.

And then it clicked and that was it, I was completely smitten.

The next stage for me was learning exactly how to navigate the metro using nothing but the map. That took a fair while too.. Kinda sucks when you walk for about 15 mins only to find you got it wrong and you were back to the station you entered at lmao.

I watched the trailer last night and it looks really bad. I don't mean in the general sense as I'm sure it'll be awesome fun but specificallt the visuals; the graphics and animation are janky as all fuck. Don't get me wrong, I know it doesn't matter massively and it won't impact my enjoyment, but I'm still surprised how bad it looks in this day and age.

Bethesda have always sucked at animation. Oddly when playing Fallout 3 I hardly noticed it, it was when I watched videos of it being played that it became more apparent.

Certainly nothing to worry about really, given it's always been like that.

Nothing from Game yet but going on what happened yesterday I am quite relieved.

At least it didn't get cancelled nor was I charged twice.

Strange but true. The Pipboy app is out for the Windows phone.

Well I compared that map there to the one in the Pip Boy app and it does look authentic.

Maybe Bethesda don't like cod ;)

I compared it to a real map and my knowledge of the area, and nope.

I mean, it's fine. It has to be gamified in some way, but doesn't really resemble the area to me and that's a bit disappointing.

Fallout 3's map didn't make much sense either tbh. It's like they took all of their favourite places in Maryland and DC and mashed them together.

One more day. I really can't believe I will be holding this in my hands tomorrow. Will order a season pass at the end of the week I think. Seems very reasonable to me :)

Surely Cape Cod isn't on that Fallout map at all?

ETA: in that the F4 map stops way north of Cape Cod and the bay you see there is just the area around the city of Boston itself.

I've tried to work it out but I don't think the map looks like any part of it really.

Yup - Boston is the very bottom right of the Fallout map

But that appears to be the least-dense part of the map. It just doesn't look right. Again, I don't suppose it matters and it won't spoil my enjoyment of it, but it would have been nice.

Maybe they've put it in a DLC like they did with Point Lookout in Maryland?

Maybe the landscape was altered by the enormous nuclear war which occurred and the resultant 200 years of fallout, ice ages, floods, etc.

But that appears to be the least-dense part of the map. It just doesn't look right.

I think what almost looks like marshland in the bottom right of the Fallout map is actually the Boston metropolitan area. That's suburbs, not gaps.
