I don't think people really appreciated that unlike an election there is no way to hold anyone to account for lying to them. The whole thing has been a fraud perpetrated on people by the right wing of the tory party. It's unforgiveable and shameless.

Quite. As much as it pains me to say.

I'm in Cornwall this week (Tintagel) there were vote leave posters everywhere.

I was surprised as a great many of the tourists spending here out of season where from the EU.

Was also a shock to see the sea of blue on the map of the UK showing who voted in\out by county

Didn't Farage say on TV this morning that he had got this 350 million for the NHS wrong?!

I'm interested to see what Ireland decide to do... Is the NI desire to be part of the UK greater than their desire to stay within Europe...?

He was part of the other leave campaign, wasn't he? Should have been a bigger deal that he was seen as so toxic that his group wasn't the official one. But he muddled through.

I voted to stay, but I think you are wrong to blame the result on right alone.

A lot of people voted to leave as they are pissed off with distant UK government and see the EU as extension of this, also think some just wanted to go against Cameron and previous PM’s

Also a lot of our laws are made by unelected EU officials which is also pissing people off.

Then Immigration, its easy to say there are positive’s, but there are also negatives for a lot of people as well, this issue has been ignored by government, so based on a belief if will change if we leave the EU many people voted this way.

I’ve had this feedback from a lot of people I know who voted leave, all of them dislike Farage and the far right, and none of them are racists. So there is more to the result that some right wing propaganda, 50% of the UK can’t be right wing and racist

Someone from my workplace actually posted this link, as well as loads of posts by Nigel Farsge yesterday, in support of Brexit. I've actually got her on mute, but I'm genuinely surprised that someone I know, even on colleague terms, thinks like this. I think I may strip down FB later.

Warning: sweary and hateful.

On the Scottish independence stuff :

France overtook the UK this morning to become the fifth biggest economy as the Pound hits a thirty-year low.

One of my Norwegian followers on Twitter said 'Roll up your sleeves and go to work. Like you working Brits always have. You're our heros. @eskimimi'

I wonder what the general feeling is in Norway, if they are feeling solidarity and are championing thus, or if this is not so common a feeling?

You have a Dutch friend living in Dutchland who doesn't blame you for anything

This is really heartening. I'm just expecting everyone in Europe to hate us even more than I sometimes feel they do, even though I'm sure that I, and my friends here, want this far less than even most of our lovely European friends.
Seriously, no-one hates you! Nor your country! An unsettling amount of people will feel "I wanna leave EU too" feelings, boatloads of people will feel "ugh, gutted about the result, auch that is gonna hurt the UK" feelings and these people will also be worried like we all are, about global economy effects and domino effects and the like, but surely not anger, and if they do then they are sad sad peoples.

Also Pete, you should definitely go book your holidays!

I hope Scotland votes Yes next time. I don't want to live in a country controlled by idiots like Johnson and Farage.
There'll be something wrong with my country if they vote no again.

Plot twist: English referendum! We vote for independence, getting out before the rest and leaving them with BoJo.

I think what this story needs is a David Miliband on a Segway...

We shouldn't focus on the short-term economics. After the ERM fiasco people (er, well, dad, actually) reckoned they were worth about half as much as the day before. But it was a statement of fact, rather than cause for panic - things recovered well enough then.

They may not do this time. But the day after isn't the time to tell. And there are far more powerful things to focus on - short term economics just gives leavers something to say "don't panic" and, later, "told you so!" about. If we focus on short term falls then short term rises give them propaganda wins they don't deserve.

Adam votes leave. Adam suprised that when lots of people vote leave, leave wins. Adam has concerns.

Quote:
I’m a bit shocked to be honest. I’m shocked that we actually have voted to Leave, I didn’t think that was going to happen.

My vote, I didn’t think was going to matter too much because I thought we were just going to Remain, and the David Cameron resignation has blown me away to be honest.

I think the period of uncertainty that we’re going to have for the next couple of months, that’s just been magnified now.

So yeah, quite worried.

She talks like Scotland is independent, its not they had a vote on that and decided to stay as part of the UK

Now the UK has voted to leave and that includes them, get that the result doesn't reflect how they voted as a nation, but that was the case for a lot of other people this morning as well.

They did , with a lot of assurances around things would change for the better for Scotland (the pledge >Link<) some of which have not been followed (yet) , and with this result I think a number of others will not be possible.

After the Scottish referendum we then had a general election where Scotland did not vote for the Conservatives and yet we have a conservative government.

We then had last nights vote where over 60% of scotland (a majority in every area) voted to stay in the UK and yet the overall vote was out.

From all of that its very easy to play the 'Scotland is not being listened to' card

Sorry mate, I absolutely did not see this coming. :(
Just incredible, really.

I fervently hope that the likes of Boris, Farage and Gove are never, ever, ever allowed to forget what they and their ludicrous little personal agendas have wrought upon the ordinary people of this country; how they've been duped into taking what I am sure will prove to be devastating for them. All that shite about how the EU will "obviously" just roll over and sign free trade deals with us leat, right and centre with no drawbacks; all those billions of quid every month we'll be able to pump into the NHS; all that grand talk of controlling our destiny, like we're at the eve of some Great Thing, as opposed to a fucking economic disaster and being made an example of. I really, really hope they will NEVER be allowed to forget.

£120 billion wiped off the FTSE in one day, pound at its lowest level since 1985, world markets reeling, the break up of the United Kingdom itself a real possibility. (Not to mention the EU, come to that). All in a day's work, huh.... and that dick Farage thinks we should have this day as a Bank Holiday from now on.

It all continues my fairly impressive run of having never voted for the winner in a non PR election. Which started with my first ever vote, for Cameron as MP for Stafford in 1997.

This whole day, I feel like I've heard the three minute warning and am waiting for the missiles to detonate. :(

Anyway, can we disband all political parties and have a "Remain Party" and "Leave Party" set up as replacements, please? I feel that I have far more in common with pro-European Tories, Liberals and Nats and than I do with much with the party I'm member of (Labour) at the moment.

£120 billion wiped off the FTSE in one day

Markets don't like uncertainty by all accounts, does make you think who is running all of this and how clever they are.

The outcome of this referendum has been 52\48 for most of the time, so not like the "market" couldn't have predicted this.

All that 120 Billion will be back on the FTSE is a few months
