It is often stated that the Union Flag should only be described as the Union Jack when flown in the bows of a warship, but this is a relatively recent idea. From early in its life the Admiralty itself frequently referred to the flag as the Union Jack, whatever its use, and in 1902 an Admiralty Circular announced that Their Lordships had decided that either name could be used officially. Such use was given Parliamentary approval in 1908 when it was stated that “the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag”.

If people didn't want their precious flag flying the wrong way up then they should have put a bit more fucking effort into making sure it looked a bit more different when it is.

Speaking of flags, when we went to IKEA last week, they had the Swedish flag flying at half mast to mark the tragedy in Stockholm.

I was sufficiently touched to put in a glowing review on their in-store computer.

Wasn't that the point, though? So baddies wouldn't notice when you were doing it?

Surely it would also be pretty hard for the goodies to tell as well if they weren't stood right next to it. In which case you could have just told them whatever it was you were trying to signal.

I don't think the voting majority can exactly be fifth columnists, that's not really how that works

Fucking hell. Who gives a shit

I saw people genuinely putting forward "going back to a blue passport" as a real reason to vote for Brexit.
