Set up your online character and do the tutorial well before Vroom Pew Wednesday, because it can take a while. You want around half a day just for the multiplayer install to complete.

From my (reasonably extensive) experience with the multiplayer, you really want to be playing with friends, as the 'solo multiplayer' experience is something of a disorganised mess with an internet full of cunts. (And in the case of the PC version, hacking cunts at that.)

In particular the game really shines when it comes to the heists, there's a 'starter' two-man heist but then all the heists thereafter require four people. We got far and away the most mileage out of running heists together. (And that's where the serious cash is as well.)

A lot of the minigame/event stuff can be good fun too, and they added in Trackmania style races at some point as well, which are a laugh.

PRO TIP - Work towards $500,000 ASAP and drop it all on an Armored Kuruma car, which almost gives you a 'cheat mode' for a lot of the lower level shenanigans when fighting NPCs. (It's immune to normal gunfire.)

Also do note that the online game can be ridiculously shonky, there are no proper dedicated servers (Rockstar's servers just do the matchmaking basically), so it hives off running the actual game servers as it were to consoles/PCs and you join a sort of 'mesh' of these clients, which often works as well as you'd imagine..... I remember one evening where it was over 30 minutes before we could all manage to get in the lobby together to get a heist started.
