Well, I thought it was rather good.

Iron Man had the line of the film for me, with "Go to sleep! Go to sleep! Go to sleep! Go to sleep!", although Hawkeye came close when he talked about killing Quicksilver.

Hawkeye in general was much better in this film than the first one. Also worth a mention was James Spader who did an excellent job voicing Ultron.

So, in conclusion: yes.

Agree with both, but as I said in the movie thread, I thought it was....alright... but not much more.

I quite liked Quicksilver.

You are aware that's a cup, not a movie, right?

I thought it was pretty good. The end half was better than the first half, and things just happened at times, rather than there being any plot development, but the bang crashies were great.

The 4DX seats were awesome by the way.

I really liked it.

Hawkeye was really good.

War Machine!

The Iron Man vs Hulk fight was worth the price of admission alone.

Spader was excellent.

I enjoyed it, but parts of it don't stand up to scrutiny post-watch.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
By the end of Iron Man 3, Stark no longer feels like he needs his suits, and indeed destroys them all and suggests that he'll no longer build Iron Man suits - as he is Iron Man. Suddenly, by this film, he's got a whole army of the damn things, including space-bound satellite deployment kits etc.

The emphasis on saving the civvies at the end felt like a direct response to the criticism levelled at the first movie and towards Man of Steel. And on top of that, all the civvies basically acted like nothing odd was going on when they were being evacuated from a floating city. Not to mention that it would have been bloody cold and surprisingly air-less up at the altitude the city dropped from.

The "Age of Ultron" was, what, 2 days?

What was the purpose of Thor going shirtless in that pool, other than as fanwank material? The fact that doing so seemingly gave him total knowledge of what was going on and what needed to happen wasn't explained very well.

Ultron built his base/robot factory in the remains of the Hydra base in Sokovia(?) - are we really expected to believe that after the Avengers tore that place up, that they didn't strip all the alien technology and shit out of it?

The fights were pretty boring by the end. Seeing Captain America and Thor combine their powers in a "special move combo" was good but got old after a few times, and I really don't need to repeatedly see Hawkeye firing arrows into the heads of robots.

Generally I did enjoy it, despite all that, though.

Yeah, the title of Age of Ultron doesn't really make any sense. They've just nicked it from the comics story line because it sounds cool but in the comics it works because it refers to an alternate universe where Ultron won and has presided over a tech-controlled dystopia for decades.

Here's my original comment from the other thread for completeness:

Saw Age of Ultron tonight and it was alright, I suppose. There was the odd flash of the excellence of the last one in the dialogue (the Whedonesque quips mostly) but the plot very often fell into disappointingly standard blockbuster incoherence and it definitely wasn't anywhere near as good as the previous film. Things I didn't expect:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
them to actually kill off Quicksilver and that the post credit scene to be setting up for Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. And I say the latter because the chat I've heard is that the next Avengers film will be based on the Civil War event which would make sense given that the seeds of that conflict between Iron Man and Captain America are already well sown. I suppose though they could just be setting up Thanos for the next Guardians of the Galaxy which would be a better fit; and killing off Quicksilver might be a way to minimise conflict with the X-Men film version if they ever want to bring that all together.

The next Cap film is Civil War. Anyway, they sort of obviously got rid of Thor and Hulk for that.

I thought the reason Tony got rid of the other suits at the end of Iron Man 3 is because they were his PTSD fueled attempt to prepare for any possible situation.

Also the rise of Hydra has probably given him no choice but to suit up.

I'd totally watch a Hawkeye movie.

Hmmm. Civil War was a 'worldwide' event that pulled in all the various heroes and gave equal time to both sides (i.e. to the Cap and Iron Man viewpoints). Doing that as a Captain America film necessarily weights towards his side which might not do the storyline justice. We'll see, but I'd have envisioned Civil War as a bigger story for the whole Avengers crew to get involved in. Unless, like Age of Ultron, the film simply won't bear much resemblance to the comic arc of the same name.

Iron man is in the next captain America film...

As for age of Ultron.

I liked it a lot, but not as much as the first avengers film, nor as much as guardians of the Galaxy. I put it on a par with the winter soldier.

I wasn't keen on the start of the film. It felt a bit rushed (but that might be due to the fact, that even tho the showing was due to start at 09:00, the cinema didn't open until 09:12, 2 queues later [they didn't tell me when I bought the tickets, that 3d glasses were now extra] I got into my seat half way through the trailers!) and contrary to what most people have said I didn't really like James spader as Ultron, I thought Tom Hiddleston as Loki was a much better baddie.

I agree that the age was rushed, it would have been nice to see his legion taking control over the world and ruling for some time, with the heroes having to really struggle to get scarlet witch out of their heads.

The climax itself wasn't a patch on the Chitarri invasion from the first film.

I'm really glad I didn't see much in way of promotion before I saw the fim. I had no idea the vision was going to be in it, but he is in all the promotional junk in shops, and the trailers, and previews and such seem to have about half the film in it!

My current mcu film ranking is:

1) Avengers assemble.
2) guardians of the Galaxy.
3) the winter soldier
4) age of Ultron
5) Thor 2
6) iron man 3
7) iron man 1
8) Thor
9) captain America
10) the Incredible Hulk
11) iron man 2

Numbers 1 and 2 are far out ahead and not separated by much, with numbers 3 and 4 also very close. Numbers 7 through to 11 are likely to change in order, I don't think any of them had as big an impact on me as the others as I didnt see any of them at the cinema.

The first Avengers is still my favourite, narrowly ahead of Guardians.

I really liked Avengers 2, but it didn't have quite the same Wow! that the first one did - partly as we've seen it before and partly just because it wasn't quite as good. Still an excellent way to pass a couple of hours though.

I bloody loved it.

Liked the weaving in of Wakanda and stuff to set up Black Panther.

Liked Gollum's 'cameo'. I guarantee he's in more after this one.

Liked the inter-Avengers tension, and the 'new team' by the end.

No sign of Winter Soldier or Loki. Bet they come back before long, in their respective franchises.

Surprised at Quicksilver getting killed off. As much as I loved the way he was played in X Men, this one seemed like a more human version. The X Men version could literally win in every single situation against all the X Men and Avengers combined.

Ultron was a curious beast. I simultaneously liked and disliked that he retained some of Stark's qualities. On the one hand I enjoyed his jokes and quirks, and human reactions to setbacks... but equally I felt he should have been a bit more unbeatable.

Mark Ruffalo is so good as Hulk. His playing of Banner just always seems to encapsulate a man on the edge. Would happily watch Hulk vs Iron Man for hours :)

One question.

At the end, Thor mentions that there are now four infinity stones in play.

- Mind stone from Loki's sceptre (in The Vision)
- Aether from Thor 2 (given to The Collector)
- Tesseract from Thor 1 (in Asgard? I can't remember)

Now, WE know the fourth is the one from Guardians of the Galaxy, stored in Nova Prime.

How does Thor know that?

Or have I forgotten one?

I felt Avengers 2 was nothing remarkable. There were some lovely scenes such as the cocktail party which was superb. As was Thor talking with The Vision about Mjolnir but most of it seemed very ho hum. Ultron didn't seem powerful and scary enough - just seemed yet another fairly average villain. The threat of Ultron was much more in the Earth's Mightiest Heroes series.

My list:

Iron Man 123
Avengers
Thor 2
Winter Soldier
Avengers 2
Guardians of the Galaxy
Captain America
Thor

I watched this last night. Didn't really rate it at all. The creation of Ultron was too rapid and really really badly explained. He's seemingly in everything, steals all the files, yet seemingly leaves all of Stark's kit intact for him to keep using Iron Man gear throughout the film. Thor jumps in a pool for no reason, and needed the help of the science guy who actually didn't do ANYTHING AT ALL in that sequence.

Just so many things that happened for seemingly no reason. I don't know if this is supposed to be tracking comic plots, but having never read the comics the plot as rendered is just all really thrown together with random junk.

I hear that Joss Whedon has been chased off twitter by angry feminists that have decried his depiction of Black Widow of unspeakably sexist, and something else to do with a lack of strong female characters. I have no fucking idea what that's about but I think there was some complaint at her being 'damselled' and needing rescue was basically the most misogynistic thing possible. Who the fuck knows.

5/10 barely worth watching, really long, badly explained random plot.

I mean it's funny anyway but with the whole Black Widow method of getting Hulk to sleep contrasting it makes it even funnier.

I don't read the comics (yet I know the main heroes and stuff) but I really bloody enjoyed this.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Iron Man was more likeable and humorous than in his own films.
Hulk and foxy ginger gorgeous oh my life I love her so much woman romance was really great too. I was super disappointed when dude cleared off at the end for no reason at all in typical blockbuster fashion.
"Go to sleep" was ace.
As was the groaning guard when Iron Man shoots him and his mates with bean bag rockets (or something).
The cocktail party was hilarious and, frankly, I'd happily sit through some sort of sitcom where they just lounge around in a bar all day talking about stuff. It was natural, hilarious and that black guy who plays Iron Man knock off suit guy was great too.
I don't care much for Hawkeye and his family.
The action sequences were great insofar as I could tell exactly what was going on most of the time. Not so many quick cut aways or overly produced special effects gets a thumbs up from me.
EXCEPT when Thor pulls that woman out the car which was tumbling to earth from the floating city. It looks like dreadful green screen rubbish and was a bit jarring when it happened.
I couldn't care less for the two enhanced persons. I couldn't give a shit when Speedy Gonzales but the dust.

My four biggest complaints are as follows:

I "get" the main thrust of the story. Ultron is bad; kill Ultron. Nice and simple. Everything else was a confusing mess of bullshit. How come Thor takes a steam bath and suddenly knows the score? It wasn't explained beyond "This is the only special puddle on earth" You didn't have any trouble finding it "Everyone who goes into the puddle dies or some shit" Argh, lightning is pouring out my body. Minutes later... I'm back and know the fate of the world. Everyone: ok, cool.

Mind control girl's powers were terrible and not explained at all. Speed Gonzales had speed. Iron Man has a suit. Hulk is green. Captain America has a groovy shield. Mind Control Girl controls minds.

... and shoots swirly red bullets out her fingers. Wha? And does a red explosive area blast. Wh? And has a red shield laser thing which she calls out of mid air with her swirly laser powers. Right, you've lost me know. She can control your mind? Yes. Well sort of. Ok. And has swirly red powers? Yes. From where? Her mind. Right, just fuck off, she's boring.

Jarvis Robot Man was terrible too. One: he looks dreadful like he's been designed by someone who is colour blind. Two: He has indestructible skin made of the same stuff as Captain America's shield, right? And shoots a laser out his forehead. So why was he so fucking boring and barely helpful in the fight with Ultron? Who cares. He doesn't even really have any dialogue with Iron Man that might have been funny or something. Which leads me to my last problem:

The New Avengers Team: DO NOT MAKE A FILM WITH THOSE GUYS. Would you look at them? Really. Just look at them. Not an interesting character amongst them apart from sexy ginger ninja who, frankly, needs her own film. Do a film about her where she does a lot of scuba diving in a wet suit or is like a female anti-James Bond and stuff and I'd watch it. More film with red swirly mind control girl? Go fuck yourself.

Overal: I like moaning but notwithstanding complaints it was super ace.
