I guess it's due to the fact that they leave weapons lying around in a few places, so if you could immediately go and get the best ones, it makes putting the not-so-good ones a waste of time. Same with the cars - what a waste of effort putting in those crappy old cars when everyone would go straight for the place where everyone has great cars.

Ah, but there were always good ones to be had early on in all the games if you knew where to look. And in Vice City the starting area was crawling with Lamborghinis and other posh sports cars. So that can't be it. I suppose, though, if you think about San Andreas, you unlocked the second bit and had that huge area of Mt Chiliad, the surrounding lowlands and San Fierro to explore, but you couldn't do fuck all in them for blimmin' ages until you did a LOT of missions out in the sticks first.

Thing is, I sometimes prefer something slower as it's easier to control.

go out of the hospital, toward the car park, follow the fence around to your right. there's a ladder that goes down to a jetty with a speedboat. the boat wasn't there at the start (i checked) but was there after the police arrived

Ho ho! Crooks and Cops is fucking excellent. Morte nearly died from laughing. And bloody Freshbeats' internet connection meant he couldn't join in :(

The most bostin bit: 3 of us getting killed as the coppers and spectating, with just GazChap and Ian Aris left as the crooks and one copper left. GazChap and Ian in a car together, which GazChap suddenly decides to jump out of. After careful reversing and a 2 second pause, Ian drives over his partner to whoops of glee from the 3 spectators.

Aye, that was my WoS username. Gutted I couldn't join in. I managed to get as far as hearing a brummie chuckle over the headset, and then disconnected again. Many times it would try to connect and then tell me the session I was trying to join no longer existed :'(

I hope I can join on for some Bezziemates (tm) GTA4 mirth sometime soon. Thanks for the invites though guys - shame I couldn't blooming well get in.

And then the only cop left (Bagwaa) chases them on foot and gets run over by a car going at 10mph!

I laughed so hard I cried.

I didn't really enjoy that at all... Cops and Crooks was a laugh, but wasn't much fun to play, and free-for-all deathmatch... was, well, free-for all deathmatch. Bleh.

When I asked Ian if we were supposed to jump off the bridge (into the water, and the getaway boat) I got out of the car.

What I didn't know was that Ian wanted to help me off the bridge by catapulting me into the air off his bonnet.

Sorry I didn't pick up on any invites - didn't see them until just before I had the Xbox off, and had company n' stuff. Sounds awesome though, I'm gutted/excited. Am I allowed to play?

Is anyone else a bit bugged by the way they lock the city off like that at the beginning? I mean, I know it's been in place since GTA3, but in GTA3, Vice City AND San Andreas, I found myself foolishly rushing the first bits, just to have access to the new bits if I fancied going to see them.

Just the opposite really, I enjoyed the feeling of being stuck in the dead end part of town looking across the water at the glittering skyscrapers, it really built up the anticipation of getting across there and seemed to suit the story. I played for about twenty three hours before it opened up and never got bored of the first area. God I love this game.

Same here. I feel that if the whole city was opened up at the start, the sheer scale of it would be overwhelming. The second island opened up just as I was starting to know my way around the first area, which was absolutely brilliant.

Sucks to be you, Roman.

Is there anyone on here who could please answer my quick tiny question yes or no:

can you just go to a bar and buy beers, like you can hotdogs etc?

Or is the only way to get drunk by doing a friends fun mission*

*shit mission really, as if you go for food, you dont actually eat.
if you go for drinks, you just get a black loading screen then appear drunk.
the pool and darts are ok i spose...

Well, sitting for 30 mins watching Roman and Niko eat wouldn't be my kind of fun. Not sure you can just get drunk on your own (as stated previously in this thead), but after the first few times when it's hilarous, the novelty wears off anyway.

no but after the quality of the other "interactions" I was kinda expecting at least a tiny bit of extra sit down chat or something. or just a cut scene of them eating a burger. or swigging a pint. I dunno.

We haven't done that yet. So far we've tried Deathmatch, Car Jack City and Cops n' Crooks.

Cops n' Crooks is my favourite, but I want to try Car Jack City again as I don't think we really knew what was going on last time.

What do you have to do in Mafiya Work?

I've not even looked at the multiplayer yet. Is it possible for say four of you to all get in one car while one drives just cruising around and the others occasionally shooting people and getting the police to chase etc?

As per usual with GTA games, I found the last unlocked area a big letdown anyway. You're not really missing much now you've unlocked the 2nd bit.

Yeah, I kind of avoided it as well for the same reasons, although we did only play on the first set of islands when we tried it last week.

Dammit, I miss my bezzie mate gaming. I think I'd better make time for it again, either GTA or Infinity Ward's etc Warfare. The single player GTA is just too absorbing though.

or you could choose one of the other modes, like Mafiya work, set the score limit to 2500 but never actually do the missions, and turn police on. you can choose which part of the city its played in too.

you and mates get in car - have fun.

basically the phone rings and your team has to compete with all other teams to complete the job the phone tells you.

picking up and escorting a person across the map
picking up and escorting car / van / truck
killing targets, sinle or multiple
picking up severed heads and throwing in the sea to hide them
shooting trucks / cars
shotting arcade machines
detroying political posters

stuff like that
its ace, probably my fave mode

cops and crooks is also awesome

I will be up for it as Forza Night is crowded and full anyway, and I would rather play a driving game that also has hilariousness built-in.

If GTA multiplayer actually works for me this time >:(
