It's like this thread is a deliberate attempt to make Curio explode

I have tried hundreds of different wines. It took me a long while to just realise I didn't like it. I actually esoecially dislike rosé in all forms. If I can stand anything, it'd be a smooth Bordeaux, but that's pretty much the 'best of a bad bunch' for my tastes. I'd always just rather have nothing.

I went to a couple of wine tastings when I was at university. They were always good fun, but I never remembered enough to use what I'd learnt.

Is that ridiculously expensive? The joke is lost on me, I'm afraid. I've never had a white Bordeaux, so I'm not sure if I'd like it (no, I know I wouldn't, but I don't know where it would stand on the scale of what I dislike).

It was, sadly, a wine joke that 'a bordeaux' covers an awful lot of wildly different wine ;)

I prefer my wine so sweet that you can stand a spoon up in it, but I'll drink pretty much any old crap really.

Other that it falls into three categories (white, rosé, and red), and that I like red, all I know is that I like Chilean or French ones. I need to do some blind tastes to overcome lingering prejudices against other major exporting nations.

Meh. This thread is shaping up nicely now, time to get involved. :D

Hey Meems, I love a challenge, me. I reckon you've just been fed the wrong wines, I bet I could find one you'd love (in particular, I'm thinking of a quite obscure South African rose; it isn't megabucks/showoffy or anything (around £12/btl max.), nor is it especially sweet (ugh!), by any means, but it is delicate, very feminine and has a beautiful, unique toffee finish. Sure fire test: the Teen Angels love it (as well as Mrs C of course); old Uncle Cavey knows a thing or two about keeping the girls happy with wine and fizz, trust me. :D :metul:

Failing that, there's always almost guaranteed girl-pleasers like Sergio rose Prosecco (as served from a magnum, natch), or my personal late-Spring sunny garden quaffer Taittinger Rose (NV) with a strawberry (sweetest of all the Rose Champagnes) - but that's just *too* easy. :)

Craster's wine would hit that mark.

I hereby offer to do a wine tasting at the cottage, if people are interested. I have in my mind that this will encompass some sighted and some blind tasting.

Also the 'that just cost an entire pay check' mark

Yeah!! Love it. Watch me select the Asda cooking wine every time in the blind tests. :D
Oh, I promise to leave off the Red Bull also Curio; I got the impression you were mildly appalled at this last time. :p

Oh, did you not think I realised that? I don't think that's particularly rare knowledge. I said smooth, but I meant smooth, heavy, dark. I'm not a wine prat, so I won't say it tasted like a National Trust carpet or anything, but smooth, heavy dark are the only words I can use to describe the last glass of wine I can remember enjoying, which was a Bordeaux. I can remember no other details (vineyard, producer, etc) so that's pretty much it.

I'm allergic to strawberries, so I think that last would be the worst of choices :P/ I have had Tattinger, (if that's the box with all the mirror bubbles on the outside) and it was kind of lost on me. I've got a bottle of that and some Lanson in the cupboard, and I'll probably have one of them for a picnic or something on the little-un's birthday as otherwise it'll just sit there, but I mostly just have a sip to toast and for the popdifizz.

Sorry Meems, hold the strawberries then! :)
Hey, I could be wrong here, you might try these and say "they're all bloody awful you daft old git, you've been robbed, pass me something decent" :D

But, I have never yet met a female of the species who can resist *all* the combined might and charms of Taittinger Rose, the best rose Prosecco {AND/OR} rose wine, all on a pleasant, sunny afternoon in a garden or similar. Dwarling. :)

Wow, that's absolutely awesome mate, I'm very envious! :)
One of my absolute faves; you just can't beat a glass of Tatt Nocturne, let alone the Gold Label Vintage, which is wonderful indeed. (In fact Tatt Nocturne is another one for the girls, too; wonderfully accessible and quaffable; not too Brut, yet still irresistibly sophisticated and the class still shines through. Man, I'm looking forward to long Spring evenings under the burners in the garden; soon time to put the red wine away for another year)

Haven't been round Tatt, but did go round Pommery a while back. They have art installations in the caves. It's really good fun.

Heh! Well, I wouldn't worry dude, before we met IRL I think Curio thought I might be a slightly plummy wine buff; the Red Bull swigging, common-as-muck, hairy arsed biker reality was quite the disappointment. Michael Broadbent I ain't. :p :D

Excellent. :)
Must admit, the only stuff I've done is go to wine tastings; on the Champagne front I've been to ones hosted by Taittinger (excellent) and Heidsieck (fair; these are too acidic for my taste, the first glass is nice enough but I'm reaching for the Gaviscon if I have too much of it, not good).

You guys are clearly better connected. :)

I started with saying how that was the name of the company I created, but then scrubbed that as I started EXPLAINING THE JOKE.

Also it would be a great band name.

Arrived to holiday place and noticed they had a Costa machine in the reception. Crafty buggers. Any way I cracked (cooffeeeee) and got one. I guess I was weary from the rather long car journey and pressed 'white Americano' without thinking too much.

God, Chinny was right, milk just destroys coffee ugh.

I am a total coffee philistine [0] and even I can tell that Costa coffee is terrible.

[0] Which is not true of most people here. My boss, who is Italian, is routinely horrified by me drinking lattes after mid-morning.

I am a total coffee philistine [0] and even I can tell that Costa coffee is terrible.

[0] Which is not true of most people here. My boss, who is Italian, is routinely horrified by me drinking lattes after mid-morning.

Costa is fuck awful. Although I must confess that their 24 hour vending machine was a lifesaver* when we were in hospital in Oxford for a week.

Sadly they seem to be on the march in south east London. Just gone past their catford branch which appears to have a footprint larger than Wembley stadium.

*Not literally a lifesaver. If Costa coffee was a proven cure for cancer I'd let them off. A bit.

I'm not a massive fan of Costa's coffee (though Pret is my preference so you can make of my opinion what you will) but I don't ever set foot in them purely because they're utterly awful at actually getting coffee served to people in a timely fashion. I don't know what the hell it is they're doing wrong but everything takes fucking forever and massive queues around the end of the counter to pick up coffees seems to be the norm. I went out with people from my team to get coffee the other day and after waiting ten minutes in the queue to even get served I got bored and went across the road to Pret. I got my coffee there and came back to Costa and there was still another ten minute wait after that before everyone else actually got theirs.

The nice indie place in the little shopping mall in Putney has been replaced by a substantially larger Costa. Which is a shame.
