What silly things tug at your heart-strings?

John Lewis adverts at Christmas don't count, because obviously they make everyone cry.

Currently, I keep getting sad at the name and picture on my bag of sweets. I have a bag of lovely "Veggie Colin The Caterpillar becomes a beautiful butterfly' sweets, and I am concerned that Colin spent his whole existence as a caterpillar not realising that he was beautiful. He didn't need painted wings to be a beautiful creature.

I bet Colin was a great friend. He made great sweets, so I am sure that he was all sorts of lovely.

So, yes, I was feeling a bit sad about it in the car, and today I keep thinking about it so I am trying to eat them all quickly so that I stop worrying bout Colin's sad existence before he became a butterfly.

Next time I shall stick to Percy's Pigsty. He's just a messy piglet with a house full of underpants, so that's fine.

Season 2, episode 2, The West Wing. When Josh wakes up right at the end. Makes me cry every time I watch it.

The ending to Klonoa on the PS1. I can't remember much about it now but when I completed it when it first came out, it really tugged at my heartstrings.

I've never watched The West Wing - I think it should be the next thing we sit down to after we finish The Wire.

Oh man... I cried loads when I starved my goat to death on Harvest Moon because I wanted room in my barn for another cow.

"To The Moon" on PC made me well up and Shadow of the Collosus on PS2 made me feel sad.

That's why I rate them as great games.

I rarely cry with films or books (or games, for that matter), but both "Brothers: a tale of two sons" and "The Whispered World" made me shed a tear. And i played them almost next to each other.

And based on all the reviews and comments, and with my recent experience at being a softie, i was expecting to cry rivers with "the walking dead", but of course i didn't. The game just isn't very good at all.

That Kiwi! thing gets me every single fucking time. It's just the tinkling piano music, and it's the same in many films - if they use a sad piano track, you may as well just pass me the tissues.

The bit in Independence Day where the President's wife dies and he comes out of the hospital room and tells their daughter that "Mommy's sleeping now" is the scene that I first noticed this in. I've watched that scene without the music and with, and it's only with the music that I look like I've just dived headfirst into a room full of cut onions.

That bit at the end of Babe where the pig and the farmer are stood together after the sheepdog trials always makes me blart - I empathise with Hogget way way too much.

I think I can beat all of you for "silliest thing to make me upset", because for some stupid reason the ending to Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan always gets me. Especially when I decided to watch the movie again last weekend.

Cat Stevens - 'How can I tell you?' This is the original vinyl album version. Unfortunately, what you probably won't hear is the sighing intake of breath before the first chord is struck, but you can hear it on the actual LP, and for me it sets the tone for the whole song.

Oh.. That reminds me. There's a programme on Cbeebies called Old Jacks Boat. It stars Bernard Cribbins (amongst others) who is an old sailor who walks through his town and has a chat with his co stars before going onto his boat to tell a lovely story. I think you'll agree that Cribbins is brilliant and tells a fantastic story.

The Christmas episode featured Bernard walking through his town asking his friends if they can make the annual carol concert. They all say that they're busy so a forlorn Bernads gets to his boat and tells his story. This story is about himself as a young man and how he comes to get married to Sailor Sue. We haven't seen Sailor Sue before and we haven't seen her since. It's a lovely story of how she proposes to him and he didn't see it coming. It finishes with Bernard looking at the camera, with a tear in his eye saying "I miss Sailor Sue every single day"

Then his friends all start singing carols outside his boat and they all say that they miss her too.

The wife and I were in floods of tears at this. It was written by Russell T Davies and It was beautiful. It must have been totally lost on the children it was aimed at.

that sounds excellent, will look out for it at xmas.

And it reminded me of Steve Coogan's Sunshine, which left me and my wife in floods of tears. It reminded me because i thought that starred Bernard Cribbins too. Turns out it's someone called Bernard Hill. Who I've spent years thinking is Bernard Cribbins. And they look pretty similar. Funny old world, eh?

Warning it is only the end of the episode (can't find the full ep on youtube or vimeo)

And yes it had both my better half and myself complaining the room was dusty....

I'd just like to point out that none of you actually ever answered the question in the first post.

This was about silly things that made you cry, whereas I think that pretty much every single post here is either understandably heart-wrenching or made to tug on the emotional strings (I saw that Kiwi short a few years ago. I'll never watch it again. Gosh, even thinking it about it as I write this has made me cry. Also, I had never seen the 'Pink Ladies' advert, so I looked for that... thanks, Grim...! :'( )

Anyway, I like that a fair few of you are a soppy lot. sometimes bravado and internet personas can make everyone seem so tough and angry, I like that most people are real underneath.

I'm trying to chill out at work with a biscuit and a cup of tea, so I put some music on.

so, me and Puff The Magic Dragon, we're having a great time until he sadly slips into his cave.

Little Jackie Paper. What a shit. I can't believe he made Puff's scales fall off. Like Rain. Whyyyyyy? He gave puff a skin condition. Horrible little git.

Anyway, it makes me cry. Shouldn't listen to it in the office, really.
