Hello all, sorry for having been all quiet of late. Anyway, I'm in!

I'm happy to sleep in a corridor somewhere, as is my tradition, if there's space free inside. A good drunk makes comfortable.

No, I had to book the last room on one of the hotels you kindly linked :)

We'll grab some ice and double up on the bubbly, at least I can carry it being in the car

It's a bit of a cheek (sorry but I am so clueless with all thing MAME), and assuming we may play a few games at some point, but will anyone have a working Defender in MAME by any chance? Not that I'm much cop and it's been years since I've played, but man, it'd be great to dust off my spurs on this ancient old game one last time (before, no doubt, I get totally sozzled!)

:)

Don't think we've ever played games in the past.

I think the only given is that Bobby will burn things. Lots of things.

Your thinking of the Cottage , where some gaming happens

I think in the long distant past i sent you some disks with MAME on it - i'm sure i could put together a download with MAME and a defender ROM in place so you can play the issue is keys (which are not great for something with defender or configuring a pad for it

Did you? Cripes, my memory is so shit, my apologies Zaphod. I remember years ago (10 years?) some kind soul did send me some discs which I played to death, even got used to the key configs on a PC (which are obviously not ideal for a bespoke multiple/weird buttons setup like defender), must've been your goodself! :)

They're long lost when I got a laptop nicked years and years back, so apologies, if you wouldn't mind bringing a CD mate (perhaps with Phoenix, Galaxian and Moon Cresta as well!) that would be so awesome, you'll have your bubbly flute glass topped up all night lol! :D

(Sorry to be such a useless old tosser who can't sort it himself likes).

I'll have a look at something as a download rather than mail off disks - so much easier these days than it was in the past

(and yes a very long time ago - i think on the Mecca rather than Alex's old site)

and although i'm spamming the thread I wont be around at the BBQ :-(

MAME with a handful of games - including Defender / Phoenix / Galaxians / Time Pilot / Moon Cresta

Download the file then double click it and look for a button somewhere that says to extract it (desktop will be fine) - go into the MAME / MAMEUI64 folder then double click on MAMEui64 to start things up

It should give you the (short) installed list click on a game - hit any key to pass the 'pause' screen and give it a few seconds for the game to start up

Keys are normally 3 or 5 to insert a coin , 1 to start , cursors to move and space/alt/shift to fire - you can change these by starting the game up and pressing <TAB> to get into the config , but you should be fine for the few things that are there

If you get stuck post somewhere and i'll try to help you (perhaps not in this thread but pick another)

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Actually, if you can bring sausages instead of Mr Chris, that would sort that problem out.

If it's too far to buy them at your end, there are supermarkets and butchers nearby at my end.

OK no probs. Any particular ones or shall I use my imagination? I'll buy locally obv, don't want to poison everyone if they've been sat in a hot car boot for 4 hours. :D

@Zaphod, many thanks mate, I'll start another thread for the MAME stuff if I may :)

Fear not all, I'm bringing sausages as well, and will be sure to source them from excellent Mr Market Dude at Cardiff Market, or something. Ooh, I'm right looking forward to this!

Hmm, better PM the egg about that kindly offered lift, methinks.

Also, am I ever going to meet Hobbes? :(

Whenever, really. The morning will be PREP TIME but you're more than welcome to be there for that.

There will be crisps and shit and we'll start cooking at, I dunno, 3? Christ knows, that involves planning ;)

ONE MORE WEEK!

Things you should bring:
Your food
Alcohol
Bedding if you're staying at the house (unless you have pre-booked a bed)
Bagged ice cubes (there are several places selling it nearby if you are coming a long way. Cars can be provided if you need one)

Things that would be helpful:
Chairs to sit on in the garden

Things you don't need to bring (unless you really want to):
Things to go with your food (I'll provide buns, condiments, salad and stuff)

Current weather forecast for Saturday: "not that bad". Might get a little rain at about 7pm.

Important notes for people getting taxis (which I assume will be anyone staying at a hotel that isn't the nearby Travelodge):
1) It might be easier to drop your stuff off, take your car back to your hotel, then get a taxi back (rather than getting a taxi with all your gear). You can leave your car at my house if you like, but it's two taxi rides either way.
2) A good taxi company is Direct Cars on 01234 292929
3) You want to go to 76 Church Lane in Putnoe (which is pronounced "putt-no"). There's another Church Lane at the other end of town.
