Not really surprising but

Treyarch is Making 2015's Call of Duty

Treyarch is developing 2015's Call of Duty game, Activision announced today.

During an investor call, Activision said this year's CoD title will be the first from Treyarch to have a three-year development cycle. The first Call of Duty game to receive three years of development time was last year's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Treyarch was the developer behind Call of Duty 3, World at War, Black Ops, Black Ops II, and other non-mainline Call of Duty games. Treyarch's studio head Mark Lamia recently shared at the Las Vegas DICE Summit that the series' beloved Zombies mode almost didn't exist.

When we know more about the new game, including the title, we'll let you know. As for right now, Advanced Warfare's Havoc DLC is coming to PS4, PS3, and PC on February 26.

Since its launch in 2003, the Call of Duty franchise has earned over $11 billion USD.

"Treyarch confirm they are making a game." It's not really news is it? I'm not complaining about a new thread by the way. Just saying this being reported in the gaming press is idle click bait.

Although I am complaining about the number of question marks used...

Its the start of their news plans for the game - which they tend to do around this time each year

And just for you i've removed 2/3s of the question marks from the title.

Date announced - multiplayer beta announced and new trailer

6th of November for the main game - and it will have Zombies :-)

Quote:
Fight the Undead in an All-New Horror Story: No Treyarch title would be complete without its signature Zombies offering - a full-game experience with its own distinct storyline right out of the box. Black Ops 3 Zombies is the most immersive and ambitious Call of Duty Zombies to date, with a full XP-based progression system for players that adds depth and re-playability to the engaging gameplay Zombies fans have come to expect.

A lot of speculation at the moment that this will be the first COD game in ages where Xbox users do not get the DLC first

http://www.vg247.com/2015/06/04/call-of ... vity-deal/

Quote:
Is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 about to break the trend of Xbox priority DLC?

The Xbox brand has always been considered the home of Call of Duty. Each year’s game would get demoed on a Microsoft stage, all advertisements would carry the Xbox logo, and DLC would always come first to Xbox consoles – and enjoy a 30-day exclusivity period.

It looks like things are going to be a bit different this year. The UK Xbox One page shows a number of AAA games, some are due this year, others next year. If you look at the game covers, there’s a green box that either says “exclusive game” or “content first,” depending on the game.

The Division for instance is not an exclusive game, but will get early-access to content on Xbox.

If you look at the Black Ops 3 thumbnail however, there’s nothing there.

Clearly a reaction to us getting play stations.

I won't be able to play Black Ops 3 Zombies with Zaphod. :'(
But then on the other side, the prospect of more Zombies is just too exciting.

I must be a miserable old git cause I just do not get why Zombies is so popular. I understand the mechanics but I can't find it anything other than repetitive and tedious after more than a few goes. I've even played the one with John Malkovich and Shane from The Walking Dead and it was alright for two or three goes but then I couldn't be arsed to do it all over again even if my avatar has a famous face and voice.

This one is not 'real' Zombies - its a fake imitation - i played quite a bit of the first map and its 'okay' , i dont like the 2nd and the 3rd is not yet out on the PS4 (came out on Xbox on Tuesday so we have a month to wait) with one more to come

Real zombies is Treyarch Zombies , and although I did not like Tranzit (the first 'large' map in BLOPS2) I really like every other map they have done - so much so that on Monday ? / Sunday ? Cookie and I played BLOPS2 Zombies on the Xbox360 rather than playing anything else and it was still great :-)

Cod 12! You can tell. He's getting so tired in the box art that he needs a sit down.

(I can bitch about COD all I like, the wife will get the game, and I'll play it and enjoy it).

E3 confirmed that the DLC for BLOPS 3 will hit PSN first (and then Xbox and PC later) - after being on both ends of this in the past I would much rather they just released it for everyone at the same time

INCOMING: The Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Beta
The Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Beta goes live on August 19th first on PlayStation 4. Plan on jumping online? Here's what you need to know...

Hello!

We hope that you’re getting pumped for the Beta, because we certainly are – we can’t wait to jump online with you and start playing some Black Ops 3.

While the Beta represents a fraction of what will be available in the final game, your feedback will help fine-tune the game and make for a better, smoother Day 1 for everyone, so thank you!

No doubt, you just caught the trailer for the Beta. If you didn’t, you can catch it here. In it, you probably saw a few things that you haven’t seen before. We figured that now would be a good time to start sharing exactly what’s in store next week (Aug. 19) for PS4 owners that pre-ordered the game (as well as what Xbox One and PC fans can expect on August 26 when the Beta goes live for them).

Let’s get to it…

Multiplayer Maps

When PS4 players jump into the Beta, they’ll have access to three maps, each one having been built from the ground-up specifically for our new momentum-based chained-movement system.

Hunted: This big game hunting lodge is situated beneath a waterfall in the lush mountains of Ethiopia, where rugged terrain opens up to long sightlines and a stealthy underwater pathway.
Combine: Set in the remote Egyptian Sahara, this vertical farming and sustainability research facility plays fast and frenetic with tight interiors, an open middle and a dangerous flank path.
Evac: An abandoned emergency evacuation zone atop an overgrown rooftop in the middle of Singapore’s flooded quarantine zone.

Game Modes

Prepare to do battle! On the 19th, expect to find a range of fan favorites:

Team Deathmatch
Domination
Demolition
Kill Confirmed
Hardpoint
Capture the Flag
Search & Destroy

Specialists:

As you know, Specialists bring their own look, personality, voice and battle-hardened weapons and abilities to the fight. They can be ranked-up, delivering yet another layer to our progression system. Next week, PlayStation 4 players will start getting to know the default Specialists:

Callsign: Ruin

Real Name: Donnie Walsh
Bio: Raised in a military family in a tough neighborhood, he is fearless and headstrong, an infantry soldier through and through. He uses his unique abilities to rush into battle and surprise the enemy with sheer force.
Weapon: Gravity Spikes – Creates a devastating area of effect shockwave in the surrounding area.
Ability: Overdrive – Initiates a burst of speed that accelerates all movement for a short period of time.

Callsign: Outrider

Real Name: Alessandra Castillo
Bio: Developed keen observation skills growing up in the streets of the Favela, traversing the rooftops to watch the action of the city below, and this earned her a place in the ranks of the Brazilian Special Forces. She outsmarts enemies by finding them before they have a chance to know what hit them.
Weapon: Sparrow – Compound bow w/explosive bolts and variable range.
Ability: Vision Pulse – Pulses the surrounding area to reveal the location of all enemies within range.

Callsign: Prophet

Real Name: David Wilkes
Bio: Wilkes got his first set of cybernetic augmentations while serving in the British Engineering Corps. Five years and many upgrades later, he is the embodiment of the cutting edge of human weaponry on the battlefield, using his superior technology to disrupt opponents’ tactics before moving in for the kill.
Weapon: Tempest – Charge-shot weapon that fires an arc of electricity, shocking targets and chaining to all nearby enemies.
Ability: Glitch – Flash back to a previous position with this system mod that hacks the battlefield simulation grid.

Callsign: Battery

Real Name: Erin Baker
Bio: The only daughter and youngest child of five siblings, Erin Baker always had to fight to get her way. Following in a family tradition of over 100 years of military service, and watching her brothers enter the US Army one-by-one, she finally graduated high school and enrolled herself. Driven to excel by her ongoing rivalry with her brothers, she volunteered for Airborne School, before crushing the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program. Heavily armored, she fearlessly operates ahead of the front lines, nimbly traversing urban environments, as she destroys HVTs with salvoes of advanced high-explosive munitions.
Weapon: War Machine – Grenade launcher that fires bouncing grenades which detonate after a short time or by hitting an enemy directly.
Ability: Kinetic Armor – Reactive armor that deflects enemy bullets away from the body. Still vulnerable to headshots and non-bullet damage while active.

Rank up to levels 22 and 28 and you can also wreak havoc with:

Callsign: Seraph

Real Name: Zhen Zhen
Bio: Militant enforcer of the 54I crime syndicate’s rule of law. She is known for her focused and unflinching combat discipline, striking fear within the ranks of the cartel.
Weapon: Annihilator – Massive high-caliber revolver that fires devastating rounds with increased bullet penetration.
Ability: Combat Focus – Triggers a bonus multiplier to score earned towards Scorestreaks for a period of time.

Callsign: Nomad

Real Name: Tavo Rojas
Bio: Last surviving member of an elite Rapid Deployment Force unit specialized in Jungle Warfare, Rojas has gone off-grid using his survivalist training to stay alive. At home in the wild, he uses his skills to turn the environment against his foes.
Weapon: H.I.V.E. – Deploys pod traps which release a deadly swarm of nano drones when triggered.
Ability: Rejack – Recover from near death by injecting a nanoparticle serum into the bloodstream.

We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves, but…

After the first few days of progression, we’ll also make a few additional Specialists available. As you rank up and progress during the week, you’ll also gain access to:

Callsign: Reaper

Real Name: Experimental War Robot (EWR)
Bio: Started as an expensive military R&D project to supplement Special Operations soldiers in the field, the EWR was a cutting-edge prototype combat robot, the most advanced in the world at the time. Budget overruns and embarrassing political incidents left the project all but a resource for scrap metal, except for the one prototype that remained.
Weapon: Scythe – Robotic arm that transforms into a high power Mini-Gun.
Ability: Psychosis – Infiltrate enemy DNI systems to simulate three decoy clones.

Callsign: Spectre

Real Name: CLASSIFIED
Bio: Next to nothing is known about the presumed wet-works Specialist, Spectre. The designation itself is a codename agreed upon by the various agencies that have pooled their intelligence on unsolved assassinations, inferring his or her existence based on either evidence found at the scene or from fragmentary reports given by shaken bystanders. Despite heavy redaction, all accounts suggest an individual capable of extraordinary stealth, able to evade or neutralize the most sophisticated of manned or automated security set-ups. In every case, Spectre’s victims have been ‘handled’ with surgically precise mid-line wounds with rarely any signs of struggle.
Weapon: Ripper – Spectre deploys mono-edged twin blades before gracefully dissecting victims with lethal, surgical precision.
Ability: Active Camo: Advanced meta-materials rapidly change their properties, guiding photons over their surfaces instead of reflecting them, rendering Spectre temporarily invisible.

Weapon Paintshop

The new Weapon Paintshop feature goes beyond the Emblem Editor and lets players create custom graphics that are displayed on the sides of their guns. With up to 64 layers applied to three sides of the weapon, players will be able to create their own signature variants with an = infinite number of possible combinations.

Conclusion

Since this is a Beta – and because it’s important that we stress test the game in particular ways – we will have gated progression caps along the way.

Also, note that Arena won’t be available in the Beta; however, we suspect that won’t take the competitive edge off of the games being played.

Stay tuned here and subscribe to @Treyarch on Twitter for the latest studio and Beta-related news. In the meantime, start warming up those itchy trigger fingers – we’ll see you next week!

Would anyone like to try the beta ?

I signed up and have my code plus 2 for 'friends'

They are PS4 codes , and you'll need to download the beta which is 18 gig in size (!) - the beta runs for 5 days

Codes are in the 'free stuff' thread in the members area if anyone wants to pick them up

Do we have opinions about this? I do not like the new quadruple fart-like boost jump to super double jump of Advanced War.

I played maybe 3 or 4 hours last night - the choice of specialists at the start does mean basically pick one and stick with it - i'm Battery and have the shield as my special.

The Beta maps are quite small and have a few obvious choke points and snipe points but the wall running ability helps to make sure you can keep moving and in cover (or out of the way) - the usual complaints for objective games (everyone is playing for kills) - unlocking things is happening often enough to keep things going but i'm not too sure of the new perks and i'm still 1 or 2 levels away from the blackhat which i loved in BLOPS2

UAV's are back and actually usable (so having a launcher as a secondary and taking them down is fun again) - gun wise i'm using the 3rd SMG at the moment (razor?) and i'm going to stick with that to see what else i can unlock attachment wise (I have the stock and grip)

I dont really like the slide - it seems too uncontrollable and i'm much rather have the dolphin dive back - and the double jump without a 'boost down' seems too slow to move about quickly

So on the whole for the beta there is not much that stands out

And a few more hours last night - starting to find my way with the different guns and scorestreaks

Guns i'm now on the 2nd AR which is working better for me , I have the engineer perk unlocked which is what I used a lot in BLOPS2 and is still great (see enemy items / re-roll care packages) - my other two perks are hard wired and another 'dont show me on the map' type one - scorestreaks are down to UAV / 'hover remote control car' / care package (the 3 at the bottom)

Still a few levels before I get the black hat device to hack enemy hardware (that's the next thing i'm working to)

Given the 3 beta maps are quite small , spawn trapping is still very much a thing (especially in objective modes like Domination) which is annoying and I've now seen the rest of my team 'leave' when this happens and I've joined a game in progress where the other side were doing this.

The specialists, they're just a dolled up action command, right? Pick a thing you want to do... no other effects?

Correct - its a 'special' scorestreak that builds up slowly - in a typical domination game you maybe get to use it 3 times max

B should be a C and there should be a B 1/2 way between them

However , yes this is 3 (now 4) very small maps

Beta is still live until later today so you can refine your mapping abilities.

A and B were just the starting points for each team.

Plus I've been thinking back and can't remember the last time a CoD map was like Strike or that hilly one from the first ever DLC for Modern Warfare. I liked that map. Great snipey is snipey.

If you were going to get this on 'last gen' then be aware you only get multiplayer and Zombies - no campaign

https://community.callofduty.com/commun ... ck-ops-iii

Quote:
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is a truly next-generation experience designed from day one to harness the full potential of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Black Ops 3 pushes the boundaries of the franchise to new levels across all modes of play on next generation hardware.

As we announced back in June, we know that there are still fans waiting to make the switch to the newest console hardware and developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology have been working tirelessly to bring as much of the Black Ops 3 gameplay as possible to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The Black Ops 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature Multiplayer and Zombies gameplay only, not Campaign. The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.

Delivering the best possible gameplay experience on all platforms is always our highest priority. With that in mind, Black Ops 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 players can continue to look forward to a new experience of Black Ops 3 multiplayer, including the new momentum-based, chain-movement system, as well as the all-new Specialist class of 9 Black Ops soldiers, which fundamentally change the way players engage in combat.

Black Ops 3 players on PS3 and Xbox 360 will also have a chance to immerse themselves in the all-new Zombies mode, called “Shadows of Evil,” which features a 1940’s film-noir inspired adventure that takes the signature Black Ops Zombies gameplay to a new level.

Fans should note that other features built to leverage the next generation hardware like the new Weapon Paint Shop and the new suite of eSports tools will only be available on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be available for a suggested retail price of $49.99 and include a bonus download for the original Call of Duty: Black Ops (bonus download availability may vary by region), the game that launched this series.
