Finishing 52 sounds a bit of a tall order but...

[1] Carmageddon

I bought into the early access to the new Carmageddon game on the basis that a) It was on sale b) All the previous versions of Carmageddon came bundled with it. The interesting thing is that it's the original that has stood the test of time the best, mowing down hoards of bitmapped pedestrians is much more enjoyable that mowing down primitive 3d models of pedestrians.

8. Thomas Was Alone: This was the 'free Amazon Android app of the day' over Christmas so I installed it even though I'd already played it through on the PC and actually ended up enjoying it even more the second time through; probably because the levels are the perfect bite-size for train/bus play. Also, even though the touch screen controls obviously aren't as good as using a keyboard, it seemed even easier the second time around. And not because I was remembering the level solutions or anything because I genuinely didn't. There was one level in particular where you're being chased by a constantly advancing wall of spikes which gave me a massive amount of trouble on the PC and almost made me rage quite entirely, but I blasted through it on Android and it seemed a lot shorter. It seems unlikely but it did make me wonder whether some of the levels had been redesigned slightly for the mobile version?

Vita or PS4 are the best versions imo. Touchscreen/touchpad for selecting characters makes it a lot easier, while keeping physical controls for moving them about. It really clicked once I played it on PS4.

That's where I got to on the PC version before I turned it off in disgust!

...well, the wall killed me a couple of times and I thought "bah" and went and did something else for a bit, and never came back for some reason. That level just seemed incongruous and out of place compared to the rest of the game up to that point.

It's where I got stuck on the PS3 as well. Came back to it a year later on PS4 and it was really easy. You don't even need to have really quick reflexes, just learn the most efficient way of transporting both characters across...it was pretty simple once I realised.

The touchscreen character selection on Android was quite nice, although the detection was a bit iffy so sometimes it would misinterpret an attempt to select a character as a jump or move. Not enough to ruin it but enough to be an annoyance. It did make me think that being able to select a character by actually touching the character directly (rather than just choosing from the character's representation at the bottom corner of the screen) would've been really useful.

There are a couple of levels with that theme, but the rising waters ones aren't as bad as that one. It is odd though because when playing on the PC I actually had to look up a YouTube video because I genuinely couldn't see how you'd have enough time to move your characters and there ended up being a specific trick required, but when playing it on my phone it seemed really straightforward and easy.

Anyway, I'd encourage checking out a video of the level to see if that helps you get past it because the rest of the game is well worth playing and there's nothing else anywhere near as annoying afterwards so it's not like you'll just hit another wall later on. Also there's free DLC that was subsequently released so there's quite a bit more content waiting for you altogether.

Completed on hard. Not as good as the original, some frustrating bits where you need the quick save too much (the train), but also lots of good stuff. The story is a bit rubbish, especially the weak ending, where it seems they ran out of money for the music.

2.Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Probably the best fighting game I’ve ever played. The boss fights are great (the last on ewas probably the only one that annoyed me a little bit, too much QTE’s on that one). It’s a blast. Even the cutscenes, which is something that I’m allergic to, are fun.

Although it technically goes on forever, you get on the Game Center leaderboards at 1,000 holes so it seems a good place to put this one to bed. A weird sort of life metaphor, this is just one endless sandtrap, with sensory deprivation that would impress those that practice enhanced interrogation techniques. In 2,702 strokes I managed to see two water holes, one boulder and a cactus. The soft plop of ball hitting sand will haunt my dreams for years to come.

I was enjoying the Walking Dead until i found out, around at episode 2/3 that my choices didn't matter one bit. What's the point then? These games have barely any game play, but until that point i was enjoying it as if i was enjoying a fighting fantasy book.

I'll probably play GoT eventually though, as it's GoT.

The Witcher 2 is a game of much bigger scope that wasn't afraid of a big rupture in half of it, depending on one particular choice

Final Fantasy X - Vita The first time I've finished a FF game since VII at release. I thought JRPGs were dead to me. Full of grind and random battles and filler, but in a portable format I loved this. Would never have completed it on a couch, but it's made the last month of commuting a blast. Ignored every side quest and went straight down the path, so was constantly a somewhat low level, which made the combat fascinating, rather than the typically. Hammer-standard-attack-until-you-win style of others. Fell apart at the 3rd to last boss when I had to do X damage in 15 or so turns, and that was impossible with my skill set, so I had to grind to level a character for 2 hours, and then they had an attack that made the rest of the battles boringly easy. Looking forward to X-2.

X-2 was a bit of a disappointment, I found. (I liked FFX sufficiently to import the japanese version rather than wait for the eu release. The not-shit dub also helped)

Combat goes back to something a bit less tactical, but more akin to old final fantasys. The tone of the game is also quite different.

Is PT a demo because it's free? It takes 2-3 hours, which is the same as some indie games. You can blitz through the main mission of MGS V: GZ in under an hour, should that count? Or is it different because it cost money?

By all accounts the events of PT (and even the first-person view) won't be included in the final game of Silent Hills. So

Who are you arguing with here? Given that no one else has brought up money as a factor anywhere.

Grim... has asked if it's ok to have demos - I'm assuming he's referring to PT and MGS V:GZ which I had on my list from last year. So I'm positing the question: what is a demo?

Well you started doing that, which is fair enough, then went off on a tangent about cost even though no one else had brought that up.

I brought it up, because it's relevant. PT and Ground Zeroes are both teasers for future games, but one is free. Are they seen differently?

If a demo is an ad for a future game, they're definitely demos. If it's a free playable chunk of a full game to see if you want to buy it, they aren't, because they're both original content.

It's an interesting discussion.
