I thought we had this thread already but apparently not, and as people seemed to enjoy the last one let's do it again.

I'm starting light due to illness and depression sapping my desire to play anything challenging.

1. The Room
2. The Room 2
3. Monument Valley (this and the previous two played on new year's day in order to keep me sane while surrounded by family)
4. The Unfinished Swan

There are 53 weeks this year, and the first one is gone already!

I was actually going to start this because I was working my way through Kentucky Route Zero, but then it became clear I wasn't going to finish it because it is dogshit.

I thought about starting it, but I haven't finished a game yet, so was going to wait until I had.

Might as well try this year -
1) Sunset Overdrive (XB1) - Easily one of the best games I've played in quite a few years. Length is disappointing though, can have all main and side missions finished in less than 12 hours. Still, a brilliant game, and one I can definetly see myself replaying in the future. (Even just to run around shooting mutants) Brilliant art, mechanics, characters, and story.

  1. Crysis (PC)

I finally have a GTX 970, and new graphics card means it's... Crysis time! And lo, I can run it maxed and it runs at 60 fps - erm, most of the time. Played it through on hard. It's still a superb game apart from the last level.

Ooh, I'll try and do this all year this time (yeah, right).

1. Nidhogg - the greatest fighting game since bushido blade. Essential same room multiplayer. Even really enjoyed the, very short, single player.
2. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. - Short, sweet campaign and the best in years. The first since MW with a coherent plot, and the robosuits really freshen it up. But the end is a bit of a squib. Enjoyable fluff. (it appears to be Xmas tradition that the wife gets a copy - well done Activision).

I'm back! Probably just to do this as I'm fairly busy learning how to be a teacher, working on top of that, and being a pisshead on top of all of them. I only did 35 in the end last year I think and with so much stuff on I'm expecting about the same this year.

I finished my first game a couple of days ago.

Finished games of 2015

1. The Wolf Among Us (PS4) Brilliant game, best Telltale game I've played, completed it pretty much in one sitting.

Older learners specialising in special needs and learning difficulties. Not sure what subject I want to do but I'd imagine it will be low level maths and/or English as that's where you get the good money.

6. PT: This was a really interesting idea of the repeating location with subtle changes each time but I was never actually scared and it got a bit boring by the end. Also, apparently to get the final, final 'ending' is incredibly hit-or-miss and obscure and needs a microphone which is nonsense. It does look lovely though and I think I'd play a game that used the basic mechanics they're got here as long as it was a little less opaque, though with your Metal Gear guy involved this could easily go either way.

Free, but very short. But free! Not to be confused with the sequel, Octadad: Deadliest Catch, which is not free. But much longer. Probably.

It doesn't, but it makes it easier to summon the hauntings. Also Silent Hills will be nothing like this game it seems.

Also, you weren't scared? :o Were you playing it in the daylight or something? I had lights out and it was pretty terrifying.

I actually can't remember what time of day I was playing it. It started off pretty creepy and I jumped at the points when
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
the hand pulled the bathroom door shut and when I got murdered by the monster thing
but after that the repetition of the game structure sucked all the fear out as I was just looking for whatever had changed in each loop and not really feeling the atmosphere any more. Also the noise of the baby crying quickly became just flat out irritating so the loops including that lost any fear completely.

He's making a 'joke' about the fact that if he hasn't heard of a game it can't possibly exist.

I thought lasermink did that "joke" when he asked about "age of zombies". It never occurred to me that he was being serious and that a game with that name really existed.

And I'm off the mark! Lovely chilled out walking simulator with a great soundtrack. Interesting how the island changed between seasons. I must go back at some point because there's loads of stuff I've missed. Loved the impressionist art-style.

Finishing 52 sounds a bit of a tall order but...

[1] Carmageddon

I bought into the early access to the new Carmageddon game on the basis that a) It was on sale b) All the previous versions of Carmageddon came bundled with it. The interesting thing is that it's the original that has stood the test of time the best, mowing down hoards of bitmapped pedestrians is much more enjoyable that mowing down primitive 3d models of pedestrians.

8. Thomas Was Alone: This was the 'free Amazon Android app of the day' over Christmas so I installed it even though I'd already played it through on the PC and actually ended up enjoying it even more the second time through; probably because the levels are the perfect bite-size for train/bus play. Also, even though the touch screen controls obviously aren't as good as using a keyboard, it seemed even easier the second time around. And not because I was remembering the level solutions or anything because I genuinely didn't. There was one level in particular where you're being chased by a constantly advancing wall of spikes which gave me a massive amount of trouble on the PC and almost made me rage quite entirely, but I blasted through it on Android and it seemed a lot shorter. It seems unlikely but it did make me wonder whether some of the levels had been redesigned slightly for the mobile version?

Vita or PS4 are the best versions imo. Touchscreen/touchpad for selecting characters makes it a lot easier, while keeping physical controls for moving them about. It really clicked once I played it on PS4.

That's where I got to on the PC version before I turned it off in disgust!

...well, the wall killed me a couple of times and I thought "bah" and went and did something else for a bit, and never came back for some reason. That level just seemed incongruous and out of place compared to the rest of the game up to that point.

It's where I got stuck on the PS3 as well. Came back to it a year later on PS4 and it was really easy. You don't even need to have really quick reflexes, just learn the most efficient way of transporting both characters across...it was pretty simple once I realised.

The touchscreen character selection on Android was quite nice, although the detection was a bit iffy so sometimes it would misinterpret an attempt to select a character as a jump or move. Not enough to ruin it but enough to be an annoyance. It did make me think that being able to select a character by actually touching the character directly (rather than just choosing from the character's representation at the bottom corner of the screen) would've been really useful.

There are a couple of levels with that theme, but the rising waters ones aren't as bad as that one. It is odd though because when playing on the PC I actually had to look up a YouTube video because I genuinely couldn't see how you'd have enough time to move your characters and there ended up being a specific trick required, but when playing it on my phone it seemed really straightforward and easy.

Anyway, I'd encourage checking out a video of the level to see if that helps you get past it because the rest of the game is well worth playing and there's nothing else anywhere near as annoying afterwards so it's not like you'll just hit another wall later on. Also there's free DLC that was subsequently released so there's quite a bit more content waiting for you altogether.

Completed on hard. Not as good as the original, some frustrating bits where you need the quick save too much (the train), but also lots of good stuff. The story is a bit rubbish, especially the weak ending, where it seems they ran out of money for the music.

2.Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Probably the best fighting game I’ve ever played. The boss fights are great (the last on ewas probably the only one that annoyed me a little bit, too much QTE’s on that one). It’s a blast. Even the cutscenes, which is something that I’m allergic to, are fun.

1. Proteus (Vita) - finished the game
2. Desert Golfing (iOS) - played 1,000 holes

Although it technically goes on forever, you get on the Game Center leaderboards at 1,000 holes so it seems a good place to put this one to bed. A weird sort of life metaphor, this is just one endless sandtrap, with sensory deprivation that would impress those that practice enhanced interrogation techniques. In 2,702 strokes I managed to see two water holes, one boulder and a cactus. The soft plop of ball hitting sand will haunt my dreams for years to come.

3 - Trine 2: Even better than the first. The graphics are among the best I’ve ever seen, and the puzzles have a very organic feel to them, since there are many different solutions for most of them.

1. Proteus (Vita) - finished the game
2. Desert Golfing (iOS) - played 1,000 holes
3. Heavy Metal Thunder (iOS) - finished story

Abysmal. Some of the most cringe-inducing, embarrassingly adolescent male power-fantasy writing I've ever had the misfortune to experience.
