I haven't played this in years and although I can't experience it for the first time again it's still absolutely brilliant. The sound effects and ambient noise are the best I've experienced in any game ever. Outstanding work for whoever did that. The start is still better than the end - what with all the best stuff happening in the first half of the game.

Highlights:

The spider (obviously) and the particularly squelchy ending.
The brain slugs and the people wandering into the water to drown like automotants.
The creepy children who want to kill you. The hanging bodies of other children a warning to you as you enter.
Using the dead as a means to an end.
Buzz saws.
And so on.

It's the best game you've never played despite being on every platform known to man: phone, console, handheld.

And Wogan's Trouser Bulge was wrong that we wouldn't remember it cause here we are years later and a whole raft of people are playing it. In your face, Johnny, Jonny, Jobonny. And so on.

I wonder what's he's doing these days... Ah well. I liked his explosive rants.

Not only have I finished this but I've done every challenge for every level and got the best ending. It's that good.

It's so good that if you don't play it I might arrive at your residence with a psychologist to have your mental health checked over and all your gaming apparatus confiscated because you don't play good games anymore.

Vote Bunnylord for Global Mega Supreme Leader.

More Bunnylord please. Much more. And swears. Lots of swears for a sequel.

35. Super Exploding Zoo (PS4).

Unfortunately it never lives up to the name. It's harmless and piss easy fun for 80 levels of exploding zoo creatures. I say "fun" but it's a bit of a chore after a while. I kept going away and coming back and it was more bearable but it's far too easy. I was expecting it to get progressively more difficult but it never happened. Instead they introduced a bear game breaking animal called the panda who can roll around for 5 seconds or so. It uses the tilt controls so it's fiddly but any spaz could do what I did and roll it all over the baddies so quickly that is often complete the level without exploring 50% of the map. Crazy. I'm amazed no one spotted that in play testing. And it's fiddly. So bloody fiddly. Sometimes swarms of your animals get stuck on scenery as it can't figure out which direction you want to push them. And splitting up the pack is dreadful as control is wrestled from one character to another as, again, it can't figure out what the fuck you're doing when it should be blatantly obvious. So tiresome.

In fact, it's kinda fun and then it's a bit shit. Nice enough but it can fuck off now thanks.

78. The Walking Dead Season 1 + 100 Days DLC: Very, very good stuff indeed. I'd previously played and enjoyed The Wolf Among Us but TWD did a much better job of both story-telling and making you feel invested in the characters. I suspect that's largely because it's easier to identify with normal people in an awful situation than with semi-immortal fairy tale characters but, also, because with the comic and TV series in existence your brain is sort of primed to grok the various tropes of zombie apocalypse survival already. Anyway, the episodes were a bit patch in quality and the end seemed very rushed but there were enough genuine shocks and surprises along the way to make the whole experience well worth it. Aside from the relationship with Kenny which seemed to end up very negative despite what I did, all the characters seemed to respond logically and consistently to my choices which I wasn't expecting to be quite so well implemented.

Yeah, but near the start you're presented with all these choices to support either him or Carly as if that'll make a difference but he treats you like shit no matter what you do; whereas everyone else does seem to react over time to your choices.

Oh wait, I got confused and thought Kenny was the younger one.

I think me and him were good friends. Obviously things got tense a bit later on, but that's to be expected.

We got on pretty well in the first about chapter and a half but things went downhill after that and no matter what I did or said he was aggressive, defensive and irritated the entire time. At one of the major choices near the end he even refused to help me because he claimed that if the roles were reversed I wouldn't help him given how I'd acted in the past, which was just utter lies. I don't think I've ever been as annoyed at a fictional character as I was at that moment and gratifyingly the game actually gave me an option to tell him to go fuck himself. It was incredibly satisfying.

I liked TWD 1, but i haven't had much enthusiasm to begin to play TWD 2 even though i have it on steam. Life is Strange was such a revelation for this type of game that i don't know if i can go back to Telltale's style.

A bit like Rock Band or Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! but using vocoder Japanese stuff. It's ok - not outstanding, but fun enough.

I only finished GTA San Andreas last year after several attempts at getting into it over the years. Since then, I have been playing GTA4 on and off, but some parts of it are incredibly annoying and put me off (eg motorcycle missions).

Meh. A streamlined production for sure, but it just doesn't have a single original idea in it. It's also too easy on Normal, and Hard isn't available until the game has been completed at least once.

This game got a 9/10 on Eurogamer. Meanwhile, the stunningly original and infinitely scarier Forbidden Siren got a 7, just because it's a proper challenge. Tch. Tch, I say.

Bloody hell, I've ordered this for the Wii today. Should I cancel it? I've never played a Fatal Frame game before. Also, I'm assuming I can cram this up my WiiU arse to play it. I'm assuming it's backwards compatible and all that shit.

I liked Forbidden Siren too. Yet I couldn't be arsed to get it on the PS3. Go figure that out, hmmmm.

Also, I suspect that the PS3 version of Forbidden Siren was severely dumbed down, but I haven't actually tried it.

I haven't played any of them. I was going to play this one to see what Grim... thought was so good about the series to see if I wanted to try the WiiU one when it comes out.

Fun Roy of the Rovers-style football game where you take a young player up the leagues. I started at Mainz and got transfers to progressively better German teams Hertha Berlin and Hamburg. I also made my England debut and played in the World Cup. Stopped because of the stupid cool downs and levels where they obviously want you to spend money to get past. Fun for a while, but nagging pay-to-win doubts have made me stop playing it. Shame.

I only played the first one. It gave me nightmares two nights in a row ("My eyes!").

The controls will drive you insane.

4/10

37. Donkey Kong Tropical Frozen Bloody Long Subtitle I Can't Remember (WiiU).

It's brilliant but, goddamn, is it hard after world 2. Hard, like, seriously hard. I don't think I'm the best games playing guy in the world, hell, I'm more stubbornly persistent than good at games, but this game just milked me dry of lives. Thank god it hands them out like candy but, come'on, I lost 30 lives to the final boss. 30. THIRTY!? I reckon it was just over that as well. At one point I had 66 lives in World 5 and the next thing I know I had 5 lives. Goddamn.

Despite all that, and some gnashingly difficult levels, I bloody enjoyed it and I'll go back and mop up some secret worlds I missed on my first play through.

Big Dog Tim Westwood shout outs to:

1) The graphics. Bloody lush throughout; just gorgeous.
2) The moosick. Absolutely brilliant, like a Mario game but not actually a Mario game. Quite why they don't let you play World 3-1's music in the music player is CRIMINAL. It's fantastic.
3) DMX. Get at me dog. Woof-woof. Grrrrr. Tickle my belly.

9 out of 10 bananas. Ho-ho*.

*Donkey Kong likes bananas doesn't he.

Fun, but very short and easy rhythm-action platformer. I think the replay value is in the level editor and community, but I can't be bothered with that.

80. Tomb Raider: my second playthrough after finishing it on the Xbox when it was released but this time on the PC as I picked it up very cheap (or possibly even free from a Steam code someone here had?). Anyway, glorious stuff all round and I think I might've even enjoyed it more this second time round. Looks brilliant, plays incredibly smoothly and is a near perfect balance of combat and exploration for my tastes. On the down side, this does leave me even mor honked off that they're delaying the fucking sequel for so long for the PS4. This is a massive dick move and Square Enix can bite my fucking balls over the whole thing quite frankly.

3) Machinarium (iOS)
4) SlitherLink (iOS)
5) Conceptis SlitherLink (iOS)
6) Assasin's Creed II (360) - Finished the story, collected 4/6 Assasin's Seals, all the glyphs scanned, all the beat up events done, all the buildings opened at home. Not bothering with races, all the assassination contracts, the other two seals, the random treasures and definitely not getting the feathers. Pretty good though. Would like to play another AC game now, but not sure which one would be good.

An earlier version of Score! Hero where you have to recreate famous goals from the 80s up until today. A bit finicky sometimes as you have to get the plays frame by frame but the pay-to-win mechanics are not as stingy as Hero. I enjoyed it.

20. Abyss Odyssey - After having to come to terms that the game is more "Smash Bros." and less "Castlevania", it's actually excellent, and looks beautiful. Too bad it doesn't have that much content, apart from being possible to play as every single opponent in the game.

81. Tengami: A PC conversion of an iOS puzzle game that's based around a design the design of pop-up books with each scene transition, and some interactive in-level items, being accomplished by dragging stuff around as if in a pop-up book. It looks absolutely stunning in action and the entire papercraft look of the thing is just wonderful. It's a very short game and not massively challenging but the visual design is worth the price of entry alone.

Technically there is time, but I've had a recent run of Android games that I've spent time on but never finished and just last night I gave up on Portal Stories: Mel after spending a good few hours on that so I've lost some ground there. Also, as soon as Fallout 4 comes out I'm not going to finish any non-Android stuff until into next year so that won't help.

Fair enough if you want to be a failure.

But if you succeed at that....

Apparently one of a series of connected games all using the same sort of unsettling style so I might seek out the rest.

83. Cube Escape: Seasons: It turns out The Mill was the most recent part so I went back to the first game to play them in order and it was significantly more obscure, with an interesting time travel mechanic, which it much harder to work out what I was supposed to be doing at any given time.

If you don't make it to 104 you might as well quit gaming for good.

Well I'll finish Temple of Osiris in the next few days and probably squeeze in either Wolfenstein or Shadow of Mordor before Fallout 4, which I might then finish before January. That all would take me up to 90; so I need to finish fourteen Android games in the next three and a bit months to make up the rest. It's not undoable.

89. Mystery of Haunted Hollow: One of the many Myst-esque adventure games on Android. A pretty good example of the genre with logical puzzles and a bit of variety.

Missed a couple from the last few weeks. I'd sort of stopped bothering having blown through 52 but I might as well shoot for 104 now.

Then you can have next year off knowing you've got them in the bank.

It's good fun, and if it was the first one I'd be a lot more enthused about it, but it suffers massively in comparison to Guardian of Light which I think was better in almost every way.

You should check it out as it's awesome and will be cheap as shit now. I picked it up to play through for a second time on the PC for only a couple of quid.

90. The Mystery of Blackthorn Castle: Decent Myst-like for Android. Logical puzzles, a good length to it.
91. Sometimes You Die: A very odd wee thing. Ostensibly a minimalist platform game but presented as a sort of commentary on games with chat from what I think you're supposed to assume is the developer as you enter each screen. The initial hook is that with each death your 'corpse' stays on screen and can be used as a platform to get over some of the challenges; and indeed on some levels you need to build bridges and staircases of your own bodies. It's rarely even slightly challenging and you can breeze through the entire thing; but it's at the end things get weird. The game introduces a gravity mechanic (turn your phone upside down to reverse gravity) right at the last minute which you can then use to get into another 'secret' set of levels which look different and are much, much harder than the game was up until that point. And even when you get through that you hit a dead end which only implies an ending because if you pause the game at that point the credits appear. However, if you followed the path earlier to what seemed like the ending before the 'secret' levels, the very final room there lets you pick a six digit code which...does nothing. Apparently. And is never explained. So, um, yeah.
