Re: Smiler: the first train hit the braking zone with it's brakes closed, thus stopping dead. The ride didn't register this and allowed the next train to be sent. Now, how these things work on modern rides is that the ride should not allow more than one train to be in each sector, with an emergency braking zone in between. If something happens, someone hits e-stop or the ride itself detects something awry all the trains stop in the end of sector brakes.

I'm betting a sensor error on the braking zone.

I feel bad for the ride staff, I'm betting they realised what was happening way before the crash, the next area sensors would flash up a warning (and probably shut the ride down) that the train had 'disappeared'... but if the train is in free fall there is fuck all they could do.

Fucking hell the Playstation Store website is a disgrace. If I try to login in with Firefox it throws a really weird and badly formatted 500 error. When I get in with Chrome and try to buy something with the Visa debit card that's on file it just fails with no real error. After adding my credit card as an alternative payment method and selecting it at the checkout it silently switches back to the debit card at the last minute even though it said at the previous step I was using the credit card. Finally I got it to work by setting the credit card to the default payment method and going through the whole process from the start again. It really shouldn't be that difficult to give someone some money in this day and age. Next step: go back in and delete all payment details because holy shit.

Isn't PSN "down" or was that just yesterday?

Might be some issues from that.

Or it might be shit.

Nah, it's just shit because I got in okay on a certain browser and could buy stuff with a card that it 'liked'. So, yeah, just shit.

That Smiler ride does seem to have far more problems than most roller coasters. I would still go on it though as it sounds ace.

Though in the last year or two my tolerance for being dizzy and that has plummeted.

It was pretty good. Packed a lot into what felt like a really short ride.

I don't think a few accidents do anything to harm the reputation of a roller coaster in the long term. There always used to be stories about terrible accidents with the Wild Mouse at Blackpool and as a kid the genuine fear that you might be killed really added something to it.

I wonder what went wrong... a 50mph crash is a bit severe.

I don't like roller coasters and this only fuels it.

You'd love getting under a car that's supported only by a jack ;)

Heh. My boss said it lasted for ages; much longer than a normal coaster! Oh well, hopefully it stays open so I get to go eventually.

They're going to make the "lose your legs" bit a part of the regular ride, I hear.

Everyone at work is moaning about their workloads. I seem to be the only one who isn't busy and instead, spends time on this forum.
