I can't see how.. They are getting slimmer and more powerful, better cameras.

What more can they do?

So you think they should take a risk to sell phones to people who complain about their phones and buy them anyway?

Obviously. But that's never stopped a good rant.

Mind you, if Google does a no-touch screen I'll get that cause it sounds ace. Or a Windows phone cause I fancy it next time. I'm bored of iPhones.

With respect, the fact that you personally can't see anything that could be done isn't the same as there being nothing to be done. Maybe you couldn't have imagined them putting a fingerprint sensor on the front? Or an NFC chip to handle payments? Or Siri?

Yeah, you're right. There is no further innovation available.

I think that those no touch screens look like they will revolutionise phones in the same way that Kinect revolutionised gaming.

My actual position was based on this:

"If enough people feel that each iteration isn't adding enough to make it worthwhile upgrading and are therefore staying with their existing handset"

I'm not saying that market does exist for sure, hence the 'if' there.

Although it's not as refined, this phone is two years old now...

He didn't demonstrate them in the video. Tch. It seems a bit limited from the 4 options shown though although I like the idea of waving the page up and down while browsing. So yeah, more of that sort of stuff please.

Fingerprints have been on laptops for years.
There is nothing new in that..

Personally I want a phone that is a little more robust..

No not missing the point.. :)
But phones have evolved in past 6 years. Still the same basic device, even google phones have not changed that much.

Well, it comes down to what you consider 'enough change'. You could argue that nothing has changed in even longer than that given that 'touch screen smart phone with internet capabilities' have been around for much longer than 6 years. I think though most people would disagree if you said that no significant changes have been made between this:

Image

and this:

Image

And that's slightly besides the point anyway. Really what I'm saying is that just because you or I can't see where the room to innovate is doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If everyone thought like that we'd still be driving Model Ts and <insert other ludicrous comparisons>.

Someone showed me their Android phone a few months ago. Think it was a Samsung something.

He turned on the option to track my eyes, and then loaded up a long web page article.

Bugger me, the thing scrolled as I read just from the minute flicking of my eyes. Well impressed.

Yeah, that's cool when it works (low light conditions tend to flummox it). It can also pause video if you look away, and stops the screen locking if you're looking at your phone.

There seems to be what is probably dried saliva on mine as well.

I asked my doctor if he was shocked by the skinny pill that is sweeping the nation. He hadn't got a clue what I was talking about.

Just more evidence that the National Health Service IS going to the dogs.

:DD

the discussion on phone innovation reminds me of when my sister said that all the good ideas for the Internet had already been done. This was about 15 years ago.

She was right, it's all part of the grand plan to keep us buying.

The bloke who invented the Nono invented the Nono Pro at the same time, but he's not stoopid.

I've got another idea:

New policy on building semi-detached housing: all new semi-detached houses to be built with a communal area where neighbours can sit and hang out.

Make it so people.

Jem and I went to Alton Towers a month or two ago, and I refused to go on the Smiler for two reasons:

1) I was feeling a little off after a dodgy breakfast at the restaurant near the main entrance
2) The ride's troubled history, with an unusually large number of incidents during its operational lifespan - including one where a wheel fell off and hit some people in the face.

Jem laughed at me.

I feel vindicated.

Today's incident raises some serious questions about that ride, and indeed rollercoasters in general. I always thought that the computers controlling these rides were failsafed up the wazoo and that it was impossible, barring failure of multiple redundant systems, for two carriages to collide - let alone at speed.

We had a vote at work to name our new system that will be replacing our current central system (written in Cache, language fans).

The winner was Phoenix, narrowly beating out Bob.
