148 including the crew.

Early reports suggest there aren't going to be any survivors.

Nah - 53% of people involved in crashes survive.

I was more referring to fatal crashes, where the survival rate plummets to around 20%. If it's bad enough to cause fatalities, there are likely very few survivors.

That will include low lever crashes such as runways etc.

Dropping out of the sky from 20,000 ft, not going to be a great.

Quote:
the next mind-bending chapter is coming!

“THE X-FILES” RETURNS TO FOX

Emmy Award-winning Pop Culture Phenomenon
From Chris Carter Is Back as Six-Episode Event Series

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to Reprise Their Roles as
FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully

Thirteen years after the original series run, FOX has ordered the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES, a thrilling, six-episode event series which will be helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

The announcement was made today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group and Chris Carter, creator and executive producer of THE X-FILES. Production on THE X-FILES event series is set to begin in summer 2015. Further details remain under wraps and will be announced at a later date.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of THE X-FILES – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” remarked Newman and Walden. “THE X-FILES was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as THE X-FILES, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

SHIT UP HATER.

Really hope Duchovny plays the role like his role in Californication.

Have there been more plane crashes just recently, or am I imagining it? Between the two Malaysian air crashes and this A320 I don't ever remember air disasters being so prominent in the media*

Or is it that usually they are just as often, but not as serious, or not as newsworthy?

* 9/11 notwithstanding - although is that classified just as "terrorism" or as an "air disaster"?

Seems that theoverall trend is downwards for a while, but there has been a spike in deaths in the last 12 months:

Explain to me why I'm not allowed to run and raise money in a race for life 5k?

I don't get why my penis should have anything to do with it.

I don't get it either. Surely they'd raise a hell of a lot more money if they opened it up to men too.

Fairly sure that I read somewhere it's so the women can run without the fear or intimidation of men and so they are not put off by their presence.

Pretty sure it's actually twofold - it's a gimmick that makes them stand out from other charity races, and it's an expression of solidarity that makes women more likely to sign up. It's marketing.

Just told the software developers that sit in the next office that they were out of order for the way they spoke to someone on our servicedesk yesterday, being very rude and patronising.

The atmosphere is somewhat frosty at the moment.

All the servicedesk girl had done was pass on a message from HR to get some permissions changed on our internal quoting tool, and they were demanding to know why she wanted this doing and expecting her to know that they'd had a conversation several months ago with some other people that contradicted this. Calling her an idiot for doing her job isn't on at all.

It doesn't help that one of them is in a relationship with.... the HR Manager.

Heard on the news this morning that support for the death penalty was now below 50%. Which surprised me. I would have said sub 20%

One of those issues where the politicians were rightly ahead of the public.
I shudder to think what would have happened had we had it during the Troubles.

I heard on the news that somewhere in America they have authorised death by firing squad because they are short on the drugs needed for a leathal injection since most of these drugs come from Europe and these countries aren't too keen on their lovely drugs being used to kill folk.

The barbarism (if that's true) is unconscionable.

Impressed, again, by Google+'s 'Auto Awesome'. As well as joining most of my panoramas together, saving me the hassle, it compiled a slideshow for me and named it 'Trip to Burnsville' - only 20 miles out from one of the 3 places covered in the set. This is, frankly, witchcraft!

Probably worth another thread, but I think firing squad to be preferable to lethal injection. Treating it as a 'medical' operation spares our discomfort at the state killing another person. 10 rounds, rapid, not only despatches someone quickly but reminds us all of the horrible nature of the death penalty.

I agree. That is Utah. There was even a suggestion of using a plastic bag over a head.

We have given them 239 years and I don't think they have behaved responsibly, so I think in 10 years time we should take it back.

The state governor should perform all executions. That will soon slow down the rate.

I'm happy to let the Spanish have Florida, and it's about time Mexico got some of her land back, but do we have to give the bits west of the Mississippi back to the French?

How many people are actually executed though? I though the number was quite small (especially compared to the amount of people on Death Row).

Citations needed, but I think you're probably right. I'm sure I read somewhere also costs far more to keep someone on death row, with all the appeals and other legal formalities that have to be done before they can finally do it, than keeping them in gaol for life.

The state governor should perform all executions. That will soon slow down the rate.

Worringly, some might enjoy it and use it in their campaign videos.

In which case they cannot be trusted and the Queen should take over again.

I'm happy to let the Spanish have Florida, and it's about time Mexico got some of her land back, but do we have to give the bits west of the Mississippi back to the French?

It'd really annoy them so I am all for it

142 on board, fucking hell

148 including the crew.

Early reports suggest there aren't going to be any survivors.

Crashed deliberately, say the French.

Fuck.

It appears the co-pilot locked the pilot out of the cabin and crashed it. Fucking hell. There are going to be serious ramifications and procedure changes on the back of this I expect.

I read the opposite; that is costs far more to arrange an execution (lethal injection) than to keep a prisoner for 20+ years

I'll see if I can find a source

EDIT: http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/costs-death-penalty

Doesn't look like a super reliable source, tbh.
