I agree that the media is seemingly reticent to call white guys terrorists, but in this case, I'd argue that terrorism always implies political motives. There are no visible political motives here, and if it had been your scenario of the guy being forced to do it surely by now some terrorist group would have claimed responsibility? Otherwise what's the point?

Going even more Hollywood, an assassination of someone on the plane? My point is really that you don't generally wake up one morning and decide to fly a plane full of people into a mountain, and we know literally nothing about possible motives right now.

It wouldn't be the first time a pilot decided to kill himself and take a plane full of passengers with him. Trying to ensure it doesn't happen is already an important consideration for airlines.

How, though? You've got to trust the person sat in the chair - unless you're going to let the plane itself overrule them.

Well, it is amongst the reasons that all US flights must have two people on the flight deck at all times.

Ultimately though, there is a degree of risk you have to take.

Remote override of the controls from the ground, which of course then shifts the risk to those with the finger on the button there....

The other option is more flight crew so a single person can't take control, which then increases costs.

You need an armed guard in every cockpit making sure they don't go mentals.

Well, of course you arm the chief air stewardess as well, and in between serving First Class she can keep an eye on the armed guard and the pilots.

It is nice that they let a retired person ask a question. Usually they just have menial jobs like cleaning or stuff. I think it is good that they let him ask that.

So... Mrs K and the kids are off to Somerset tomorrow. I'm joining them for the weekend, but I'm coming back Sunday night and they're staying there until next Friday afternoon...

Oh, I think that's a bit of a shame. I wondered if this was because it was aimed at people supporting research into breast cancer specifically (though breast cancer can affect men, too, so that would still seemed a shame, and then think of all the millions of men affected by breast cancer through their wives/mothers/daughters etc) but it seems to be in support of research into over 200 types of cancer.

I'm not sure I understand the specification of it being for women only from the quick glimpse I had, but then it does seem to have a heck of a lot of support. i wonder if they'd have the participation numbers if it was open to men?

Come on, mark. EVERYONE needs a kayak, and (ideally) a spare kayak. It's only if you have 4+ kayaks that you start to not be in requirement of a further kayak.

That seems to be the justification behind it, participation is supposedly higher due to it being a women only event.
I'm not convinced that's the case, but it's impossible to prove either way.

I have to allow myself about three-four times as long to walk anywhere around the building at work now because of the number of tummy rubs I have to collect on the way.

This is awesome.

I want my tummy rubbed by random people forever.

Many of my friends' families used to make an Indian tea drink out of a big pan of boiling water, tea leave (or tea bags) sugar, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, and two other spices (I am sure there were usually five - maybe ginger, cardomom, perhaps?). Is this a similar drink to that?

If you live or travel nearby a mosque then it could well be that.

With the clocks going back this weekend see if the traffic is significantly lighter next week, perhaps.
