No occasion really, I demanded his presence and he obliged :) We're going to see the Foos at Murrayfield and then having a few days of drinking craft beer and playing board games. You should come meet us for drinks at some point, he's up for a few days!

A house we viewed is under accepted offer (5k below asking). The sellers want us to come and have a second look. The offer is 15k more than I/we/MrsA was going to offer, so I presume they want full asking. I really should get our gaff up for sale and get MrsA to sort out her job.

Why do people say 'chance' when they mean 'opportunity?' A corporate email to all staff today, with the subject 'Your chance to test drive an electric car.' It's not a lottery, we just have to ask.

Sometimes Google seems to be fucking terrible. I wanted to know if a particular game had ever been released for Android so I searched for and yet it moves android. The first hit there for me is the Wiki page for the game, which struck me as odd given that I'd checked the wiki page which had no mention of Android. Sure enough, doing a find on the current version of the wiki page found no mention of that word. I thought maybe 'android' had been mentioned on the page when Google last looked at it and subsequently removed but Google's cached version of the page also doesn't mention Android at all. Why the fuck is that page the top hit for a search when one of the search terms doesn't exist on the page at all? Surely that's a cardinal sin in the search engine business?

Interestingly Bing does a similar thing in that it returns the game's official site as the top hit even though it also doesn't mention Android at all. What the fuck?

To require a word on Google (and maybe others), you put it in speech marks.

#safe=off&q=and+yet+it+moves+%22android%22">https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=and+y ... android%22

I actually though you put a + before it (which I tried and it made no difference) whereas the quotes is for if you want to look for a set of words in a particular order. Although it's still a weird concept, if I didn't want results including that word I just wouldn't have put it in the query at all, why should you have to 'confirm' that you meant to add it?

Because it will exclude any results that don't contain that term.

It's to make sure words are on the page in a particular order, but just putting one word does the same thing (ie. makes sure it's on the page). Putting a "bare" word at the end makes it less important than the words at the start (if you put Android first you get different results).

A plus sign did used to make a word required, but now it makes it prioritise Google Plus results.

Yes, I get that, but my argument is that should be the default behaviour. If I didn't want the results to definitely include a specific word then I just wouldn't have typed that word in my query in the first place.

Now that I did not know; I thought everything was equally weighted and you could just put search terms in any order you wanted. Good to know.

Sometimes your search might be quite a long bit of text that you've copied and pasted, an error message perhaps. So google might find lots of stuff that's relevant despite the fact it doesn't contain all the words and filtering out all the results which don't have one crucial part can be helpful.

Also they're getting better at natural language searches, so 'is and yet it moves available on android' also turns up better results, even though "android" is at the end again.

Which is good for people that are new to this kind of thing and haven't had years of practise optimising things for search engines like we have.

Today everyone in our 11 person team had a meeting to attend, apart from me and another.

Nobody locked their PCs as they went, so the other girl and myself took a 'selfie' with a mobile phone, quickly emailed it to everyone and then set it as everyone's desktop background.

That's far too tame. Next time send an email out to the entire office announcing that they'll bring cakes in tomorrow, then delete the copy from their own inbox so they don't know about it.

It's great, isn't it. I'm wondering how long it will be before one of the accused drops Blatter in it in exchange for immunity from prosecution.

:this:

You've got to have one hell of a thick skin and supreme lack of self awareness not to immediately resign in the wake of key members of the organisation you've headed for however long being very publicly indited for fraud and corruption etc. 'Disgrace' doesn't even begin to cover it; does rather beg the question just what would it take?

Football is a global laughing stock and a bad joke; I'll be watching the sweltering, farcical Qatar World Cup just for the lulz.

I actually think that if Blatter pulled out a gun and shot someone in public, he'd still somehow not lose his job, let alone go to prison.

Don't know if it's true or not, but apparently slave-driven Filipino labourers are allegedly dying in their thousands putting up all the Qatar World Cup football stadia, according to online sources? If so, how's that for a "fair play" backdrop?

I truly HATE football and all that it stands for, and quite clearly is. GTFF as far as I'm concerned; it wouldn't bother me if they razed every single football ground to the ground.

People quite rightly get very upset about fox hunting and the like, but last I looked people weren't dying over it.

But.

I hate FIFA,Sky,the world cup and all inter-Euro football.

It should all be banned.

So Blatter gets re-elected as FIFA president. Who'd have thought it possible? He should enter the Eurovision Song Contest next.

Man famous for bribing FIFA officials gets elected by a vote of FIFA officials.

If anything, this is more evidence against him.

I liked his statement yesterday, which was basically along the lines of "I had no idea this was going on, how could I be expected to keep an eye on all of the people that my organisation touches?"

Coupled with the graphic that was floating around that showed the organisational structure of the top level of FIFA, which was basically Blatter at the top, and then everyone underneath him with either "ARRESTED", "INDICTED" or "GUILTY PLEA" written over their mugshots, I just found it quite hilarious.

It'd be like the Prime Minister saying "I had no idea my entire Cabinet were fleecing taxpayers with expen..."

Oh.

I've had to great ideas today. If someone wants to make it/them then you agree to give me 100% of the profits for ever. Here's my groovy ideas:

1) A Satnav that has a video on the front and just shows the road as you can see it but overlays the map over the real time image.

2) A book/film/TV programme where the protagonist can feel the sadness of every food he consumes. So if he or she feels the sadness of a sheep when he or she eats some lamb.

There you go. Make something and give me money people.

I am feeling lots better thanks since The Rugby so I was sent to Aldi where I have been to politer Sheffield derby games then to Asda and even Coop. This evening I did the dishwasher twice and kegged up Da Beer and even mopped the floor. MrsA has "hurt her back" and apparently this means lying on the sofa and who fun when the Proscetto runs out. The Child also beat the shit out of me before bed as a "fuck you for having a cheeky pint on the way back from Coop when I wanted to shout "goal" a lot.
