BBC has archived all the Radio times TV listings from 1923 to 2009

Interesting to see how much things have changed, I looked on the day I was born in 1970 and BBC 1 shut down twice for an hour or so in the day!

Even when I went forward to 1983 BBC2 didn't start showing programmes until late afternoon\early evening

Compared with today there was next to nothing on TV!

Its a very different world my son will grow up in TV wise

I spent a while dipping in and out of it last night. Looks like it could be a fun timesink and a useful resource for social history. TV hours on both BBC and ITV were limited until the 1970s I think.

I did look up the schedules for the days in September 1939 that never happened as the television service went off the air. Don't think the 20,000 or so viewers missed much.

Quite good that they take the time to explain in a sidebar what each service was, and do a logo in the current style.

I'm old enough to remember when we would get the 'Radio Times' and the 'TV Times' so we could get Christmas TV listings for all four channels. We never used to get them except for Chrimbo. And, sadly, I still enjoy going through the special edition with a pen, highlighting shows to catch.

And those Clangers, eh?

I remember those big Christmas issues of the Radio times, think we got it every week if I remember.

Then at some point it was all put into newspapers so we never bothered after that

Also remember my dad getting pissed off with the lack of stuff on TV at Christmas in the 1980's looking back he was right!
